It is dependent on quite a few variables. Strain, environment and nutrition. Also, the flower cycle definitely goes through phases. You will notice most strains will step it up in weeks 3, 5 and 7. Purple Envy will pack on bud consistently until week 7 and then just stall completely. That is not the norm though.
If you're looking for those long, stacked colas then you need to seriously consider HPS lighting. Nothing beats HPS when it comes to bang for buck. For me, it is still the gold standard. However, HPS comes with some drawbacks. Mainly heat. Which brings me to environment. Temp plays a massive role in an ideal environment. In SA, air conditioning is a must if you run HPS.
Nutrition, well that is pretty self explanatory. Plants need the good stuff, in the right amounts and at the right pH. You just need to find what works. Trial and error can not be avoided.
Over-watering is one of the biggest issues newer (and not so new) growers face. Pot weight is the easiest way to know if your plants need more water, but in coco you shouldn't be giving massive amounts of nutrient solution and then have to wait days for the medium to dry. This will cause problems for coco's CEC. Rather give your plants less solution with each feed. Rather a little thirsty than a little bloated.
I hope that helps.
