The Quadsquad Thread: A Community For Quadlining

Hey ya. I see your concern. They are hardy though and lucky for us they can take a punishing.
I would lay a short pencil over the split then tape it firmly to the branch on each side with electrical tape, closing the gap as the 2nd bit of tape goes on.
Also supporting across the top of the pot with a packer that can be moved to avoid the possible dampness issue.
It’ll heal, but you want those branches as heavy as possible, right? ;)
Next time leave a quarter inch of stalk above the cut. That will stop it splitting.
Interested to see how others would deal with it...
Cheers :yummy::cool:
Cheers DD, It's a bit tight on the balcony when trying to get around the plants to foliar feed or even just water them, sometimes you bump into one plant when tending another. Perhaps a recent 'bump' caused the split.

I could do with some extra eyes here, the 3rd node knuckle has split.
This morning I was going to see if I could level out the canopies of my 2 Quadlined girls. I think they're already pretty good but I was thinking I could do it as a final training tweak before I leave them alone for flowering. Before I did anything, I noticed the White Widow/Gorgonzola (3-WWG) had split down her 3rd node Quadlining knuckle, looking back at pics I can see the split was there yesterday.

What to do? :hmmmm:
Do I leave her as she is, as her branches are somewhat supported by the rim of the pot and her existing Quad structure?
If I leave her as she is, should I put any 'medicine' on to the wound?
Do I bind her, using tape or plastic coated garden wire to try and close or partially close the split. If I bound her I would probably choose plastic coated garden wire which to my mind may be less likely to cause the plant to sweat or hold moisture, as I am wary of mold and budrot.

When you top, I've found it really helps to leave a little snip of stem above the cut. It's not a guarantee, but it does help.

That's a damn fantastic idea.

I have a ton of these 12" bamboo skewers that I use for all kinds of things. From short support sticks, to plant markers, to who knows what. They are handy, and super cheap. These would work very well for your idea, and I'll remember that for the next time (and there will be a next time) that happens.

As mentioned above a few wraps of electrical tape will do. If you have any rooting gel laying around put a drop in the split before wrapping/splinting and should be good to go!

Probably all options are fine as they are hardy plants, but any thoughts are welcome :thanks:

Another thought, will the split cause her to bud more vigorously, like growers who swear by putting a nail in the base of the stem? That would be great!:hookah:

Here she is, still looking a happy girl

And her step sister 2-WW seems a happy girl too

Seal with nail polish

Just cover the gash with duct tape while it heals. Only thing that should hurt it would be if it kept getting wet in there. You can remove the tape later or leave it on. I’ve split most of mine. Lol

Big shout out to @Ganjagrandaddy for pointing me in the direction of this thread... i`m about 2/3s of the way through reading it :nomo: and absolutely loving it... i`m going to put my scrog net to one side and give quadlining a shot on my next grow so i will probably be hassling you all for pointers soon ;)
Cheers :thumb:

Good to read that mate. it is a brilliant method and i have missed it this run of autos but will be back to it again in feb. The results from asinio and the squad are excellent and perfect for a small grow space too. go for it , you wont look back. This thread is huge now but very friendly.

Well I'm not doing micro grows like some amazing people on here but i don't have a huge amount of space either...
The room is about 8ft long, 7ft wide and 7ft high but the actual space i have for the plant's is 7ft wide, 4ft deep and max of 6ft to the bottom of the lights.
So anything that can keep the plants low without compromising yield too much is worth a shot :thumb:

Sounds similar to my situation. My room is pretty much the same dimension as yours and I did give it a shot with quadline. This quadlining technique works fantastic and I know you wont regret it for tying.

This technique helped me to reduce wasted lights by allowing the plants to cover more square feet area of the floor before doing any vertical growth. Once i have the plants covering the area pretty good, reaching to the edges layout of the light output, that's when i start flowering them. During their flip/stretch there would be space available for the vertical growth / bloom.

The microgrows are done for just that when needed but the quads can be as big as you have time to veg for in reality. Your space is a foot bigger than mine but I have an apex to contend with but I had some nice 1.2m quads my last run.

Exactly the problem i have been having... plants getting too near the lights or growing out of the arc of the light.

My first grow was in an attic space so i know all about the fun of working with an apex ;)

9 plants ...Barney's farm a mix of Pineapple Chunk and Cookies Kush...about half are quadlined and the others have 6 mains.
Just flipped to flower 3 days ago, let the stretch begin. They are all 100 percent perlite 3 gallon hempy buckets.
I will defoliate in a couple of weeks.

Try chop sticks and a small strip of duck tape around the split I use plastic clips or cloths pins on
the branches involved to steady till split heals. Happy motoring.

Mango is getting closer! Still a few weeks left and she only smells better by the day!
Her daughters are coming along nicely with a few moved to flower.
Northern lights still in veg and will probably wait for a vacancy in the bloom room. What the hell, let her get bushy, she loves the quadline training!
Tangerine dream auto is cruising along nicely as well.
One of the blueberries was a dude, the other a chica, so i took some cuttings and flipped her into bloom to see what she's all about.
This is a blast!

Couldn't help posting a couple of new pics from the little ladies. This girl scout crack, double glock who is an absolute beast, strawberry gum and white widow. Oh yeah last but not least Alaskan people. Thank you for putting me on such a fun way to grow.

After the unfortunate split that occurred just over a week ago to 3-WWG, who is one of my 2 Quadlined girls. I patched her up with some electrical tape.

But she didn't blink from the injury, it seemed to cause her no issues at all. Here she is at the bottom of the picture with her step sister (2-WW) at the top end. Both enjoying some nice sunshine. :hookah:

They have both gone into stretch mode and beginning to thicken up around the nodes with pistils. But not yet into clusters of pistils/budlets at the flower tops. No further training needed now. The Quadlined method has produced a fairly good horizontal presentation of what will be colas in the coming weeks. I am hoping both plants have sufficient nutrients left in the soil to carry them thru flowering to harvest. So far that are looking better bigger and stronger than last year's grow.

I don't think there is any other plant that causes the same magnetic need to repeatably check and gaze upon it, and dream of the flowering growth ahead. All the best for everyone else's grows!
:ganjamon:

Getting closer! Mango is just a few weeks away from the finish line!

flipped to flower 17 days ago, height is around 33 inches....all plants have been lollipoped They are all 100 percent perlite 3 gallon hempy buckets.
I will defoliate again this weekend.

should pop this here. trying a quad grow on 5 of 6 of these 2L hempys. the 6th came up a mute so the training is different.

getting close to flip, a 2L bucket is gonna have a hard time supporting more.
