The Philosophy of Growing: Grow Journal

It is said that “All roads lead to Rome” and the way I see it that is how it is with growing. There is no one right way or any wrong way to grow, as it depends on the grower and what that person hopes to achieve from growing the plant – their reasons for growing this boisterous, mysterious weed. Myself I like to grow trees, not plants. Cannabis trees.
My grow consists of 4 plants. A white Rhino from White Label seed company, and 3 Church from Green house. The white rhino is 4 months old.
The Church plants, at that moment range from 5 weeks old to 3 weeks old. The white Rhino I managed to save from a previous grow;
With temperatures in excess of 100 F, I lost an number of Himalayan gold to root rot and heat stress, but managed to bring the white Rhino back from having few roots, thanks to Rhizotonic and a lot of patience; that is why it is 4 months old and has not been flowered yet. Here is a picture of the 4 plants. At the moment the plants are under a 600 watt halide.

I grow indoors using a hydroponic medium called Flycell, and use both chemical and organic fertilizers. I feed my plants Cyco nutrients, along with organix Harvest, which is a mixture of fish, seaweed and Fulvic acid concentrate, totally organic; along with Rhizotonic, and super thrive. Each plant is in a 52 liter( around 13 gallon) pots. each pot has an air stone at it base connected to an air pump. I water about every 2 to 5 days, depending on the plants. If I water lightly, then I water more often.
I use beneficial bacteria and friendly bugs to keep the root zone healthy. The fertilizer has a EC of around 1.6 and with a ph range anywhere between 5.7 and 6.4 depending on whether the plants need more nitrogen or, at a higher Ph range - potassium and phosphorus. Here is a picture of the White Rhino:

This is a picture of her root system:

I keep them at a temperature of between low 70s F to no more than around 80 F; I control temperature by using various on/off cycles on my exhaust fan(I will eventually control the fans with a thermostat). If I feel they need more heat, I reduce the time my exhaust fan is on. I have a large room(1848 cubic feet) but my grow area is 8 feet by 6 feet. I like to use a 600 watt lamp for each plant, but have to watch my electricity bill, so I make sure they get at least 60 watts per square foot and ideally around 80 watts p.s.f.
I am in early autumn here, and heat is not such a problem as it was in summer with days over 100F, it was real hard to control the temperature and keep it down using a fan. An air conditioner would have solved my problems, but I could not afford to buy one. so I lost plants to root rot and stress. fuck, I hate summer. . .

Re: The philosophy of growing: a grow journal.

Thanks for having a look at them, mate. I had a look at your plants too, and they look real healthy and happy.
happy growing, mate and all the best.

Re: The philosophy of growing: a grow journal.

Wow - very cool grow.

All kinds of new stuff for me to ogle. Its hard for me to get a sense of scale (even with the ruler) cause your pots are so much bigger than mine.

Those plants look very cool as well - are you trying for that bonsai result or is it just a result of the rescue? That White Rhino is awesome lookin!

:popcorn::goodjob::Rasta:

EDIT: Ijust went back and looked and realized they really aren't bonsai at all. Just huge pots.:smokin:

Hi mate, no the White rhino is just from bringing her back, but I do like to regenerate my plants, as when they have a excellent root system and stem, it seems a shame to cut it down, so I may regenerate the White Rhino. In the past I have had plants as old as 18 months, and they have been flowered
around 8 or 9 times.
Thanks for having a look and commenting on my grow.
and may you always have bountiful harvests.

Re: The philosophy of growing: a grow journal.

This is an up date to my journal.
Enclosed is some pictures taken yesterday.
This is my oldest Church plant at 6 weeks old, I have pruned the bottom branches and opened up the top of the plant:

the same plant again:

and from the top with a 12 inch ruler for scale:

This is my second Church plant, and it is 5 weeks old:

This is my 3rd Church plant and it is just short of 5 weeks old:

and here is a photo of the 4 plants together:

My growth rate is well over 1 inch a day; I shall post some more pictures in a day or two.
happy growing

Re: The philosophy of growing: a grow journal.

Hi bolivar,
Thanks for having a look mate; It is the photos that give that impression;
the four plants are under a 600 watt halide, which is roughly about 15 inches from the top of the plants. The larger Church plant, I have opened up at the top. As the plants get larger, I will be firing up more lights, but at the moment it is not necessary.
I checked out your journal, great stuff, mate.

Actually I was commenting on how thick the vegetation is on all the plants. They went from clones to bushes, looks like. They're grabbing every bit of light that hits the footprint.

Re: The philosophy of growing: a grow journal.

Thank you for having a look for me, PitViper.
I will veg for 8 weeks and flower for 9 to 10 weeks.
Each plant is in a 13 gallon container, using a hydro medium similar to rock wool.
I hand water and I feed them a mixture of high quality chemical fertilizers(made here in Australia) and an organic fish and sea weed fertilizer with Fulfic acid.
I alternate between the chemical and organics depending on what I feel the plants want, or else I mix the two.
My E.C. is around 1.7(in the 5 week of veg). ph various between 5.8(if they need more nitrogen) and 6.4( if i think they need a little more phosphorus and potassium. The 4 plants, at the moment are under a 600 watt halide.
I really appreciated you taking the time to check out my grow.
Thank you again:smokin:
Ill have to check out that medium..Im always trying new stuff. just threw out 200 gals of hydroton...always fun.
I love the pot size...and doing one plant per pot. Im not comfortable on giving any advice on your nutes...your on your own there..they look like they have been trained a good amount...I want to see the final product.
8 weeks is long...I LOVE IT that you have the time to do it. how tall will these finish at? Im getting the idea you have limited cieling hence the training...no matter...there is no wrong way to grow weed
if I can be of help please ask. if I dont know I will find out.
my nute chart may be of some help...or not
peace my friend!!

Re: The philosophy of growing: a grow journal.

 Subscribed, nice clean setup. :thumb:

I am curious about The Church, gave away mine because of space issues. I kept a clone, but it is less vigorous plant than my other two, but they are vigorous strains and advertised as such....I want to know if the smoke is worth me keeping this mother (clone), as it is I am gonna bonsai it til I hear from my provider and he took mine as his mother so....will be awhile...:Rasta:.

Will be interested in your thoughts on yield and potency and type of high...taste as an afterthought...not my main concern. Medicinal value and yield are my primary.

:peace: brother.

Re: The philosophy of growing: a grow journal.

The white Rhino is going to be a very large plant with around 20 large colas. I think she will yield a pound, and if she does it will be the first time ever I have had a plant yield that much. Fingers crossed.

My mind is appropriately boggled at the thought. :smokin:

Re: The philosophy of growing: a grow journal.

They're still looking healthy and happy. Won't be long.

One of these days I'm going to do a grow with nothing but White Widow-crossed strains. Never tried any of them and I should do it just for the education if nothing else. White Rhino will be one of them of course.

hi Bolivar,
Patience is the key. I would recommend the white Rhino- out of all my plants so far, I think it will give the highest yield (though it is older than the Church plants), and if some samples of leaf are anything to go by, it will also be the most potent. It is from White Label seeds.
happy growing, mate.:thumb:
