The Living Medicine Cabinet

Got bugs in your compost/worm bin?? Add in Neem cake meal, the worms love it and the bugs absolutely will leave the house.

Also another good organic amendment is Crab shell meal. That kills the insects on contact so top dress in the pot and in the worm bin is another good way to rid yourself of the critters.

Fungus gnats are going to be in the worm bin and in the castings/compost that come from the bin. That's a fact of life and just an annoyance really. If the gnats show up later in your grow it's possibly due to over watering which is WAY worse than a few insects. Once I started top dress with neem cake meal any and all insects and the larvae are history..

When I get my bin back up and going I'll definitely consider the neem cake. I will be making "egg meal" to recycle the eggs I use in the kitchen.

The gnats aren't something I really care one way or the other about removing, but in my apartment they become a nuisance. That won't be a problem anymore since I won't be keeping the bin in my apartment anymore.

I don't have fungus gnats in my worm bin. Maybe they are more numerous in your area?

I suppose so. Its pretty humid here most of the year, even in the winter. So gnats survive indoors fairly easily.

Everybody!

I'm dropping my seeds tonight!

The Cab is all done. Here it is all ready to go.

All I have to say is, its about damn time!

Awesome work CC! Now comes the fun part. :)

What is your maximum canopy height in there? (It looks like you might want squat pots)

I have about 34" of room in there. From the top of the pot I am going to use, to the light it is 19". Its going to be tight. But I got it to work last time. At this point I am only a little concerned I may burn my plants. The goal is too keep the canopy as even as possible. Maybe I will get lucky and get it right :)

Check out SBG's grow cab. It should look alot like his...hopefully.

I used to raise worms under my rabbit cages. Worms LOVE rabbit manure and it's not a hot manure that has to age. There were millions of them under there.

:MoreNutes:

Can you use rabbit manure in the soil? I find numerous dropping at the labyrinth every morning and wonder that every time.

You can use rabbit manure straight out of the rabbitry. It's a great soil builder with the worms and all. Tomatoes ate it up and produced LOTS of fruits!

And yes, rabbit is DELICIOUS! :circle-of-love:

It wont burn plants if you stick straight into your soil?

The NPK of rabbit manure is 2.4/1.4/0.6.
a friend of mine is using it and he is happy as hell

Interesting...Im glad you shared that. Rabbit manure is always heralded by homesteaders as an excellent top dressing for gardens and fields, but I had always assumed they meant after it was weathered and degraded from just laying where is dropped

Does anyone know if there are any rabbit manure soil mixes on the market?

Its funny how the smallest thing can snag you in this game.

So, my seeds are cracked with nice little tails poking out. I cut the CC soil about 50/50 with some store bought castings I have so it wouldn't bee too hot for the seeds. I put the dirt in the mini pots, set my timer, go to plug my light into the timer and - wait for it...

My timer is ungrounded (only two female slots) and the light is three pronged/grounded. I don't have a spare converter around. SO I CAN'T PLUG THE LIGHT INTO THE TIMER. ERRRR

I guess I could leave the seedlings by a window and everything will be alright. I just wanted this to be like Christmas when you flip a switch and the whole house lights up! :)
