20240412_065446.jpg

It's Day 16 fore the soil clones and still no sign of roots, but all the cuttings are very happy. I think this soil may be too nutritious, but sometimes patience works too.

20240412_065442.jpg

Day 15 for these cuts. They too are still very healthy and happy.

20240412_065615.jpg

The 2 long roots on the left both hit 12" this morning, the other 2 at 8" and 5".

More importantly, if you zoom in on the longest one you will see side roots coming in. The more side roots you have before you introduce myco, the better.

You can grow roots faster here in 2 or 3 extra days than you can in soil, so patience here gives a better plant for life.

20240412_065002.jpg

Day 56 for the BK manifolders. 16 tops on the left is officially Mr. 16 Topps, so we are down to 1 now.

20240412_065120.jpg

This one, at 8 tops on the manifold, and with staggered nodes, at Day 56 still hasn't picked a team. It's the smallest, least gangly one. Quite often the smaller more delicate phenos flower the best buds.

It still has the 2 extra clone branches, so if its a girl, I will lop them off and then it's a true manifold.

Then into the flower tent to see how far 1.66gals of this Gaia mix can go. 8 colas is a lot for a pot that size so it would be a good test.

Lets hope It's a She.🤞

TMSC - Day 11 of Flower.

20240412_064936.jpg

The canopy ain't pretty, but it's filling in nicely. 3 completely different plants.

20240412_064630.jpg

From the other side, lol sorry for the messed up white balance.

20240412_064735.jpg

RVDV1. Turgor is perfect.

20240412_064645.jpg

Ikky. She's running strong and smooth as well.

20240412_064652.jpg

The line where Ikky meets the RV sprawl. Border wars arise. Mutey referees🤣. Look how tall the Mutant is stretching compared to the others.
20240412_064745.jpg

Here's Miss Mutey. She's a big-boned Gal.

Everyone got topdressed yesterday. 5 tbsp/pot of Gaia 2-8-4 PowerBloom.

Some random cola shots. I still don't see any light stress and stretch has grown into 1100PPFD

Screenshot_20240412_083512_VPD Calculator.jpg

VPD yesterday afternoon at 1100 PPFD still says it's safe. I have to lower RH 1% today.

Screenshot_20240412_084648_VPD Calculator.jpg

This is VPD 2 hours after lights on today.

For those of you learning VPD, this low morning VPD is normal. When they first wake up they are usually as warm as or warmer than the room, then a couple hours in they flucuate heavily to almost a crash, and slowly wind themselves up to yesterdays high.

All that craziness in the morning is normal. So don't adjust lights or humidity during the early day, chasing a better VPD. Trust the plant.

Look how much "pray" these tops have at a crashed VPD.... they know what they are doing. Adjustments can be safely made to dial in VPD after 10 hours of light.

If I upped the light right now to get a 2 degree difference, they would fry this afternoon.

Never chase VPD, be patient and dial it in.

If you ever do panic, the safest way to slow VPD down, or speed it up, is to add or subtract humidity, not temps or light.

Temps react too slow and light is dangerous.

Also with LOS you need a fairly steady, somewhat stable room temp for the biology in the rootball, (68F night-78F day is the ballpark I try for) so adjusting temps effects more than just VPD.

Humidity added will slow VPD on contact, humidity lowered will increase VPD on contact.

It increases or decreases the suction the atmosphere has on your plants, speeding or slowing the draw of nutes from the soil and into the photosynthesizers, and the draw of CO2 from atmosphere into the photosynthesizers.

These 2 parts need to be in balance and then exposed to the correct amount of light to synthesize them at.

If you don't give them enough light you are missing out, but if you give them too much light, the unused light is absorbed but not used, so the plant heats up. It's called light stress.

If you give them the right amount of light, the temp dif between air and the upper fully formed leaves should be 2 degrees F after 10 hours of light.

This is how I use VPD to determine light levels, not just assigning an arbitrary PPFD value.

Finally!
20240413_071756.jpg

If you look at the leaf serrations you will see them starting to point up. Thats the beginnings of too much light. It took me/them a long time to find the limit, but from here on the light will get dimmed as stretch continues.

Yesterday at 1100 PPFD they were very happy. Today stretch had them at 1180 PPFD, so I dialed the light back to 1100 PPFD.

These strains eat about 10% more light than my regular Durban does.

20240413_071807.jpg

20240413_071828.jpg

Hopefully it reverses without damage. I'll check numerous times daily now as well as what VPD gets up to this afternoon.

I'm dropping RH 2 points a week right now so anything and everything happens even quicker.

Hey Gee, plants are looking gorgeous! Update for you on the Acapulco Gold buds. The refrigerator cure or lotus cure seems to have a better color and way stronger smell compared to traditional cure. Might be worth it to snip a few good tops and throw them in a paperbag in the fridge to try it. Both types smoke good, still need some more time to cure, high hits fast.

Thanks Gidorah👊

So you trim/hang them for a few days, then into paper bags in the fridge until they dry down?

How long did it take roughly?

I'm up for trying it if it doesn't stink up Momma's fridge🤣

Day 16 for the aero clones.

20240413_072708.jpg

Roots are still rooting.

20240413_072722.jpg

This one is pretty much ready but I'm not. It may be a couple more days until I have time.

20240413_072844.jpg

The side branches are starting to grow on her.

20240413_072750.jpg

This is the smallest one. The last one to root.

20240413_072822.jpg

And figgy has roots today. Day 13.

20240413_153410.jpg

Day 67 for yhe last BK and still no gender showing.

20240413_153438.jpg

It is however rooted and ready.

20240413_153434.jpg

So if it's a Gal she will go immediately into the flower tent.

Today is Day 17 for the soil clones but I didn't get pictures.

I did check them today, and popped the cups off every rootball. One had a root showing, so there's still hope there.

I'll grab a pic tomorrow.

Here's some mutants and some regular colas.

The pic of the fasciated bud would make a good entry to photo of the month, although I'm not sure what criteria they use to judge that competition 🤞🍀

Go Figgy!
Thats exactly what I said! 🤣 I did not expect it to be that easy.

That thought has crossed my mind. I think I will wait until it's fully flowered out and then maybe stage it for a good photo.
looking good, gee. digging all the freakiness. 👍
Thanks @Regrowth , this is a very fun grow. The tent is definitely got it's freak on right now🤣

20240414_063409.jpg

The 1st root to pop in the RV1 soil clones. It's a nice fuzzy one🥰.

I'm 1 for 6 so far, at least I never got skunked🤣.

I'm really curious how this The Answer soil does with clones. How long can it survive in a solo with only water and fish ferts?

Not being greedy, but.... another 5 would be fun to play with.

Now that I have the basic needs of what South African sativas seem to need/want figured out, which is slightly slower soil (less calcium/magnesium), slightly more water, and roughly 10% more light, compared to what I'm used to with designer genetics, I'd like to grow an LC-18 and a Wild Lady next grow, and maybe a couple of these RV1 clones.

But 1st we have to see how Gaia Green will flower out.

They have created an unbelievably steady environment in the tent, day in to day out. I've never seen plants that take control of things like these ones. Purebreds, Wow is all I can say. Knowing now how they are, these are incredibly easy to grow and easy to clone.

They really just want to be in the bright sun with lots of water (at least in cloth pots) and then left alone.

They love to be topdressed and they love fish ferts, so other than watering, it's 5 minutes per plant once a week.

They also do markedly better with mulch. The one microbial tea I gave them just before flip really boosted their vigor. Molasses, kelp, and EWC. Just microbes really, not a feed tea.

They like it warmer in veg. 80F air temps and heat mats to keep the pots at minimum 68F if your in a colder region. Under 68F at the roots and they really slow down.

Now I have to go out in the yard and build things out of 78lb concrete Lego blocks.

I hope I survive it....

I hope you survive too! Until then I'll tell you about @Table Mountain Sativa Co 's ILKWA. The one I grew in the yard last summer. It was taken a little early. In fact when I pressed it the rosen was clear as glass at first! Tasted raw, kind of nice but not something I want all the time. So the bucket of buds has been sitting all winter. Then the other day @Bode mentioned he was enjoying it. We had a fall swap. That made me think I should revisit the bucket o buds! So yesterday I fine trimmed up a few buds and ground them and put them in a cone to smoke. What a difference a cure made! Now there's slight lemon taste to an earthy back flavor! Just wonderful! It's makes me elevated like crazy too! For hours there's a nice head buzz! Thanks again Matt! Sweet genetics!

Awesome! That's what I like to hear. I'll gladly wait on a cure.

Ikky is a real branchy thick beast with nice colas, I can't wait. 😎

Love those aero-clones. I will be putting 3 unsexed mothers to bloom soon. Took a clone from each in hope that at least 1 is a fem. Then clone from that.

Where can I get me one of those?
