Had my first set back with the hydro set up over the past two days. One plant stopped growing while the other went charging forward.
My first thought was the one was sucking up all of the oxygen and or nutes first so I moved the slow grower into the first bucket so it got first dibs on the buffett. No reaction over 24 hrs. In the meantime the other plant is still growing at a very rapid rate.
Last night I believe I found the problem.
I was doing an inspection on every component and saw the pumping column on the slow grower was spitting out solution from the support column instead of the drip ring. I thought bingo! the ring is clogged, simple fix. I pulled the drip ring off and cleaned what little salt build up there was. Not one hole was clogged. I did notice that without the ring the pumping column was working properly again.
The problem has to be in the ring I thought to myself. But the holes are clear. I put the ring to my mouth and gave a hard blow thru it to see if maybe it was gummed up on the inside from something. As I blew as hard as I could, a freaking chunk of hydroton goes shooting across the room. AAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH! Damn near done in by a small chunk of clay!
Apparently the piece had fallen in the when I moved the plants to bloom and i missed it. The pumping column snatched it up and rammed it up into the ring to clog it up.
I reassembled everything and now it works like it should.
The plant is 2 days behind now and there is a size difference that could become a problem.
I've installed air stones into each bucket and i removed about 5 small lower branches off the slow grower to maybe help give it a boost to catch up to her sister. I dont know what else I can do to accelerate her growth so I'm open to suggestions.
The smaller one has the best seat in the house as far as lighting goes. She's getting the full impact of all 860 hps watts plus an led UFO fly by every 7 minutes.
I was thinking that I could also prune back the bigger one to try to even things up if the growth difference get really out of control in the next two days.
Here's a pic that shows the size difference. It looks real bad in the pic but up close the larger one is about 2-3 inches taller and of course fuller since i trimmed some lower stuff off the little one.
