The Beginning Has Begun

There fine n dandy buddy, thanks for asking. Fans are out of stock, just need to stick with what I got for now.its meant to be getting colder here over the next few days so that will keep temps down.plus I've timed the lights to to off 1100-1700 hrs.for 1 its warmer through the day and 2,better to be off that time incase anyone comes round.

I reckon I could possibly knock a hole through to my bathroom cupboard which is next door, there's an extractor fan in the bathroom.wonder if I coukd reverse it so it pulls air in instead of sooking it out?? I'm gona have a serious think about what can be done.

Keep the bath fan running normally, without it you will eventually get mold in the bathroom. All that intake would be for is to let air come into your grow. I think the rule of thumb for passive intake is 1.5x bigger than your exhaust hole. So if you have a 4" exhaust, cut a 6" hole for your intake.

And if your bathroom has an ac vent, or just stays as cool as as the rest of the house you will be alright. And it's impossible to tell the cfm of your bath fan, but I'm guessing it's around 80-100 cfm. Most bath fans run at about that capacity. As long as your inline fan in your grow is pulling that or more you will be fine as far as unwanted odors in the cupboard.

Hey obi, just been looking at cfl bulbs.would it be possible to get one from a hardware shop in town and if I can find a decent one(or better,1 that fits my current light),can I change it straight away without causing any stress to my little babies? I'm gona check the company who supplied my starter package,I'm pretty sure I've got a pamphlet indoors with different and replacement bulbs.

I have never use an HID light. To the best of my knowledge CFL bulbs do not work in an HID (HPS/MH) socket. I would not attempt this unless specifically advised by the manufacturer.

With the limited info that I have I would say you would be better off purchasing the proper socket for a CFL and install it in your reflector if that is the direction you are trying to go.

You can safely make lighting adjustments to improve the growing environment as long as you maintain a consistent on/off schedule.

/Obi

A cfl won't fit or work in a hid fixture. I've never tried it or seen it done, but just going off logic.

A cfl operates on 120v ac current. The ballast to your hid fixture puts out 240v ac current. Plus if your ballast will run a hps light it also has an igniter in it. My logical guess would be when you put a cfl in your fixture (if you can find a cfl with a mogul base, not a medium one) as soon as you flip your switch that bulb is going to shatter from an overload on current alone. I'm not sure what the igniter would do, if it would do anything at all.

Actually, I think walmart carries a cfl bulb for street lamp conversions. I'm not sure if you have to have a certain ballast to run it or not. But the bulb is around $30-$40 usd if I remember correctly. Sorry about being vague, I am going off a project I never finished about 2 years ago lol.

But the bulb should be a high kelvin temp if I remember correctly, so best to use it in veg if you decide to try this route.

If I'm carefull and keep an eye on my little babies can I Just continue with what I've got? I've been told that I can use my hps the whole cycle. If anything,I would buy a simple lightbulb fitting and a standard cfl bulb. I have one in my living room, right above my head.lol. its a philips 20 watt number.what size of wattage would be best suited for vegging? If I decide to keep going with the hps,I will prepare better for my next grow.

Here's a pic of the twins and my first sprout that came up

The second set of leaves are now starting to show,I don't think there established.which brings me to my next question.as you guys are in my corner, when d'you think I should split them? Kinda nervous about the whole process.should I do it in the dark?so I don't expose the roots to the light?

Hey guys, how's things? I got my ph meter the day and I'm a bit unsure how to read it? When I dipped it in my tap water it read 048 ppm and my rain water (which I'm using) is reading 021 ppm.I'm guessing that I take the first zero away and put a point in the middle of the number left? Is that right?

Felt like my babies needed a decent drink as my cups felt a bit on the light side.since giving the girls 40 ml each(and a bit extra for the twins) they have took a growth spurt.I'm planning on giving them the same amount every other day and the day in between, spraying the top of the soil. Does this sound ok? Also, transplanting has been on my mind now that they are getting established. I plan on only moving them the once into 10 litre pots(2.5 gallon) I will be able to get 5 in the tent but if all goes well with the twins,I'm gona need 6 pots.I've got a bit of a plan with my soil/perlite mix,it envolves kinda putting 2 layers in the pot due the kind of soil I'm using.I will explain better at the time.

Flyinhigh guy, how's things? Yeah, good luck for today.hope your germination goes well.be sure to get pics up. So listen mate, what kinda size we talking here about the pots? I will need to keep in mind the dimensions of my tent,80*80*160,not that big. What about getting like 15 litre pots? That would be roughly 3 gallon pots. Meant to ask, what seeds you starting for this grow?

Been looking at in-line extractor fans, for drawing air in.looking at a 6",36 watt motor,up to 315 m3/h. Will my 4" carbon filter fan cope with the input? I haven't a clue how to work it out?my extractor fan says up to 187 m3/h,capable of air-flow rates upto 200 m3/h. So will the 6" fan to draw air in be suitable guys? Just thought I would ask, before I go ahead and order it.

Sorry, don't understand your meaning.why would I need a reducer? The 6" fan is to draw fresher air into the tent and my carbon filter with the 4" fan will draw it out. Also I got my bio-grow,bio-bloom and top-max today but there is no guidelines on how much to give my babies?? I'm guessing that it won't be a great deal mixed with water but need your advice.
