Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

I didn't know you had a joural Tead, obviously I'm in. Everything is looking great so far. I'm ready to learn a few things!

On those LEDs, I'm not exactly sure how they work, but I believe they contain 3 diodes of specific wavelengths that vary depending on the input. MJ uses a lot of different wavelengths for various things (or so my LED research led me to believe). So I don't know if they'd give the perfect mix, but people get by with way worse!

Welcome along Jojo. Rifleman has been visiting, but it's a quiet journal so far. Mostly me bumping my lips about nothing so far.

Still reeling from yesterday's loss to the Titans. The Titans! Really boys, you got your ass whooped up on by the Titans. Really?!?!
Meh... time to get out my paper bag and sit in the "Aint's" section.

Hmmmm.... now that you mention it... I do remember reading about different needs at different wavelengths.
I might be able to accommodate that with my design idea.
I've read some about various strip light designs. They're quite hot little buggers and need to be mounted on something that can take the heat. Of course, in my hot-ass world, things that generate heat are not so welcome.
With those restrictions in mind, I'm imagining a cooltube fixture with the inside lined with some of them. I could use different types of strips to achieve different frequencies. They have many different kinds pumping out various types of light, so I assume I could find some to suit my needs.
Now if I could just find the damn time and some spare pennies....

My legged clone I stuck in the 5gal pot died. Apparently my bare root transplant from her clone container was not so good. Anyway, stuck one of the Rapid Rooter clones into it. So far, that clone has been doing fine.
Temps are way down locally. The grow shed has stayed below 80f for a day or two. I really see a growth pickup when the temps get down. I still see some 80+ days in the long range forecast, so the AC still needs to stay in place, but I'll sure be happy when I can pull it out for the winter and seal the shed door up some.

Photo dump from the phone.....

Rapid rooter clone in place.

Label data from new bag of lime ("It's Dolamite Baby!!!") and some Osmocote+. I'm going to use them to try a constant feeding Hempy Pot.

Temps are down.... awesome! (Note: "outside" temp is veg tent)

Lastly... I trimmed a bud from mamma to feed the need. Starting to get nicely filled in. Trich's were mostly cloudy with hints of amber. Some hairs starting to brown up. Smoke report soon.

Very nuanced smoke report....

I've been growing this exact strain via cloning for about 4 yrs now. I know it well. I know it's various variations well. I know a crappy plant from a well grown piece of it when I smoke it. I know it like the back of my hand.
It's actually had a very fun history. While other strains have come and gone (RIP Crit+) this strain has survived and thrived.
Anyway.... this sample of pre-harvest herb was taken very early. Trichs currently mostly cloudy with maybe 10% amber. I usually want to harvest around 80%. Additionally, she was quick dried in a microwave. Slowly and gently, but still quick dried in a microwave.
The taste was terrible of course.
Some cough after smoking... not much.
Even such a low grade sample sits me back. After the first 5 or 10 min, the quick buzz fades to a great level of "background radiation" high. Even after all these years. Some day I might be moved to poetry about her.

The first of the season... so nice to get acquainted with her again!

I think a lot of the LED companies advertise their lights as covering 9-11 wavelengths, and if you do some (easy) digging, you can find what they say what kind of benefits you get from each wavelength. Do share if you end up making your own!

I'm very interested in seeing what results you get from the Osmocote+. Will you be mixing it into the perlite? Or will you be dissolving it into water and feeding with that? Also, it seems like it would be readily available at many stores? Shame on me - I never got around to reading that journal that DocBud had on Osmocote so I don't know anything yet. :)

Side note: I was secretly hoping that it would get warmer for you so I could see what kind of bikini that girl is rocking! I suppose I can be happy for you that it's cooling down though.

Yup... there's a lot of thinking to do before I start playing with the strip light stuff. Have you peeked at the strip lights? They're leds mounted on a tape-like strip with adhesive on one side. Fun. They have some heat issues, and can burst into flames if you apply the wrong power.... but still, interesting.

The osmocote plan is to create a hands off pot. Water only. The osomocote goes in with the medium. This really appeals to my lazy side. There may be some need for nutes near the end when the osmo wears out near the end of the run. We'll see. Gotta go re-read Doc Bud's words again before I jump.

Ahhhh the bikini girl. My sweetie side-eyed me a bit when she saw it in the Home Depot cart. Some people prefer garden gnomes.... I'll stay with the scantily clad thermo-queen. She's the indicator for outside temps. The external outdoor probe is in my veg room. She's bikini clad at 80f, so I'm sure we'll have a chance to see her in full bikini splendor soon enough. I've been wanting to replace her with one that has a constant display of highs and lows.... but it's a bikini thermometer... how can I toss that to the side?

Off to lay tile.... and no, that's not a metaphor for anything. I get to go play with mortar, grout, and tile. Meh!

I have indeed looked at the RGB strip lights, and I actually have several feet sitting in my electronics bin. I'll have to do a bit of research to see if the spectrums used are at least in the general vicinity of what is supposed to be good.

The osmocote in a Hempy mix sounds like a match made in heaven. I'll have to watch how your grow goes. I'd like to switch nutrient lines since Monsanto owns GH now, and I'd prefer to KISS!

I did a bunch of reading last night. I re-read Doc Bud's words. I saw MANY other successful osmo grows. Folks have been doing it for a long time apparently.
*confidence building.... fear being replaced by cautious optimism*

As for those strip lights (hmmm... yes, I like that phrase!), bust those bad boys out and tell us what you think of them. Do you know which kind of leds are on them?

Hello tead hope you dont mind me tagging along im looking forward to learning more about hempys. Ive been curious about those led light strips for awhile too i might just be trying them out in the somewhat near future just gotta figure out the funds and get the stuff
ive seen some that claim to be for flowering and are like 16 feet or something like that lol.

Welcome Lexort. Seen your posts about. I'm sure you'll find it a friendly place. Happy you're along.
I've been a big fan of hempy since I dipped my toes into it. It provides the speed of hydro with the ease of a soil grow. It dodges my local heat issues. Helps me keep a nice clean grow room. I'd preach more about the benefits, but I'm pretty repetitive.

Cleaned a couple of fresh bags of MG perlite for the new osomo pot. Put it in a big tub as watered the bejeezus out of it. Took a good bit of sludge off the bottom that I'm happy will not be in my pot. No balls. Some small sticks and wood chunks. Perhaps today I'll get some time to put that bucket together. Gotta do a feeding today anyway.

Do you just put a hole in the side of the bucket basically? I always wondered about growing in pure perlite lot of ppl didn't think it would turn out but i obviously see it works lol

Now i grow in a soil less mix with lots of perlite added and i use 2-liter bottle do you think its possible to do hempy in a 2-liter? I could make it light proof with duct tape i already do it with my current setup but i do drain to waste. Ive always liked the idea of hempys and its nice and simple.
