Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

I'm really starting to be impressed by the UltraDogs.
This morning was a feeding morning and I decided all those enormous fan leaves had to go on both of them. I started cutting them with scissors, but discovered that their stems were thick and strong with tons of water in them... almost like a succulent. I started just pinching them off easily with my fingernails.

And the clones were lookin extra sexy to me this morning....

I sometimes wonder if all the green algae is somehow forming a nutrient source for them.

I'm glad to see they are showing off :laughtwo: I can tell it's the same pheno or both are close. The wide leafed are usually heavier, they also grow bigger buds and finish rather quickly. Stretch is very minimal, and with topping even less of a problem :thumb:

Mighty good words to hear Con.
I haven't done any sculpting yet. I kinda wanna see a natural grow before I get creative.
Their stems are so fat and full of water. I can see how they might be an extra easy one to bend about.

Hmmmm. UltraDogs are set to explode. But where? :hmmmm:

Excellent question... care to join me for some math? What's that little cross mean again... and that dash?

Starting figures of note....
Current bloom area - 3.5 x 3 feet.
Total sqft.... 10.5
Wattage of HPS - 400
Wattage per sqft - ~38

hmmmm.... not so hot straight out of the gate... but that's another discussion.
I could increase the bloom room to 3.5 x 5.
Projected bloom area - 17.5 sqft
Wattage per sqft- ~23

hmmmmmmmmmmmm.... do I really want to increase my space and drop the wattage/sqft or should I just live with the limitation?
Damn!
Perhaps the query can be resolved with a bowl (or 20) and some digging.

Crazy day. Starting my feeding at 3:30am. Didn't finish before I had to rush off and meet a plumber. Came back home, but had to run back out to hit my daily route. Finally made it back home and the lights had just gone off. Oh well.. I only missed 2... they'll live to drink another day.
I've had quite a few of these long days lately. I'll sure be happy when a certain duplex is rejuvenated and filled with tenants. Re-finishing cabinets that have several layers of paint is just no joy at all.

Clipped from this thread.... The Basics Of Plant Lighting

How much light should I use?
The following is a MINIMUM light requirement for productive growth in the vegetative stage:
CFL: 42.25 watts per square foot
HPS/MH: 32.5 watts per square foot
LED: 22.75 watts per square foot

The following is a MINIMUM light requirement for productive growth in the flowering stage:
CFL: 65 watts per square foot
HPS/MH: 50 watts per square foot
LED: 35 watts per square foot

Damn!
Anyone know of a thread somewhere from a LED sponsor looking for a reviewer? Tead's gonna need some better bling'n lights.

 I've thought the same thing Tead. I'd love to gets boxes of goodies just for doing what I enjoy.

I think 50 watts per square foot is better than the minimum. It's a healthy average/good amount.
Not that this helps you overly.
You'll just have to find a way to grow some sort of special/lucky plant so that you can win POTM and get an led to grow more/better plants with? :hmmmm: kind of a chicken/egg issue there though...
There are sometimes led companies here looking for sponsors. You'd make a great one as you can go on and on about the wonderful heat reduction aspects.

I had dual 600W HPS each covering a 3x4' area for several runs - 600W / 12 sq ft = 50W per sq ft.

One run I added two 3x100W LEDS as 'saddle bags' next to one of the 600W HPS. That added 300W or 600W of LED (I think it is only 150W each at 110v.)
It was only a single run, and the LED were only on for a few hours in the middle of the 12 hour HPS day.
I saw no improvement over the HPS only lighting.

I agree with Weaselcracker: 50W of HPS per square foot is plenty of light to grow in - not just a minimum. Then again, I start my flowering girls at 18" away, but I let them grow to within 2" of the HPS lights - so they get more light than they would get at the recommended 18" away. I'm not among the best growers, so your results may vary :)

LEDs sound like a good thing for heat. I just haven't found a good use for my first generation (old) LEDs.

Is that a Blue Dream I see hanging out there in the back? Everything is looking so good in there Tead.

Watts per square? I run around 37.5 HPS watts per square foot and that seems to be about the most I can handle with my current ventilation. I don't think it hinders me much, at least not enough to bother with it. I do have my eye on the Perfect Sun LED lights though. Maybe one of those will be in my (distant) future.

You've done a good thing. This pheno should have excelkent branching, so letting more light will give you more colas. Stems are supposed to be strong, they should stand on their own and be flexible. Outdoor it's a very wind resistant strain that doesn't really break even if tipped over. I'm happy they like hydro as switching from one method of growing to another for a strain that's been grown only folllowing one is a shock sometimes. You're gonna find a lot of Chemdawg '91 and OG influence, but with characteristics that has overcome weak sides of both.

Hmm I'm smoking Colombian bud, I can never get used to this creepy effect :passitleft:

Gettin' close. How much longer? I love those progressive shots into the sweet goodness of the trichomes. :laughtwo:

Beautiful Tead. Next hempy I'm running with a regular schedule to see if I can grow them as pretty as you and Hab and Obi do. I almost pulled Emerald again, but if I don't stick it out I can't learn from it.

Spent the morning ignoring words here and was enjoying some reading about Castro.
Fun words... blatantly stolen from the fine folks at Popehat.

"Castro had the best of intentions — just like most Communists. If Castro was magic, he probably would have created a Cuban utopia. But, he was not magic. A road to a better society passes many tollbooths. You can either pay the toll, go around the tollbooth, or you can pull the tollbooth operator out the window, torture him, rip out his guts, and then put his head on a stick as you approach the next tollbooth and see if that guy wants to risk the same fate, or just let you through. Unfortunately, the last option is often the most expedient — and that is the option that Castro chose. He became Batista without the thieving nature"

Better yet....

ST. PETER: Fidel, I have good news and bad news.
CASTRO: What's the good news?
ST. PETER: The good news is, where you're going there's plenty of fire for you to light your cigar.
CASTRO: OK, what's the bad news?
ST. PETER: The bad news is that all of the cigars are from Finland.

Was talking with the wife about stuff and I got on the topic of your food rants and she wanted me to ask ya what you think of "king cake"
