Tales From The Krip!

Krip-key

Just came to me. Are you familiar with 'The Big Bang Theory' TV sitcom?:rofl::rofl:

Anyways, I was curious if you've run a test without Overdrive vs with? I was thinking about picking up a little 500ml bottle.

:thanks:

EDIT: I should be more clear. I was wondering what sort of return you see using it. Clearly it helps, or you wouldn't use it.

11 pages in already. Well here I am in another journal I can't possibly follow. :cheesygrinsmiley: As others will tell you I do show up around harvests and have been called "blister" once or twice since I seem to show up when the work is done. Your setup looks sweet and your plants look very healthy... I will try to stop in.

No worries, Brother! It's great to have you here! :welcome:

Hey, Heirloom! You know I'm kinda a "science guy", so I want to be careful about making claims I can't back up scientifically and I have NOT done the type of side-by-side grow and comparison that I can even get you close, so let me just tell you what I understand about Overdrive...

I've been using it pretty much since my first grow (after exhausting the "starter" GH nutes that came with the WaterFarms) and have used it in combination with the Big Bud on pretty much every grow, with a few exceptions where I simply forgot to add it.

The BB gets used weeks 2-4 of flowering cycle to help with the bud development. The last two weeks before the flush, the BB gets switched out for the OD. This is supposed to coincide with the time of the "swell" when those buds are putting on something like 25%-50% of their weight (noobs, be patient and don't harvest too early or you'll miss the swell! ) and delivers some extra Potassium, Phosphorous, and other vitamins & minerals that are supposed to both help the buds pack on this additional weight, and in the development of resins and terpines.

My BELIEF is, from my grows, research, and talking to other growers is that on some strains, it really doesn't help much with the extra weight BUT it does help develop the trichs and flavors.

My personal view is that a 1L bottle is only about $25 and you only need 8ml/gallon for the last two weeks of flowering, so it's relatively inexpensive to keep it in the routine. I'm also assuming, in this "personal view" of mine, that there is some added benefit to using the BB and OD in conjunction with the AN Micro/Grow/Bloom since I would hope that they were, at least to some extent, formulated to work together.

Overall, I've been happy with the AN Nutes but I've never been one to really push one line of nutes over another. How much better can one guy's Nitrogen be over another? I know, scientifically, there are different ways/formats that N can be delivered to the plant, and I'm sure there are some differences in chelation, etc. But, once again I have to assume, most of those "top shelf" nutes are about the same!

:Namaste:

Thanks bro! Was wondering if you had left it out once and lost, say, 5-10% average on that grow. It's not very expensive, nor is it used a lot.

Bud Ignitor arrived today. Curious how it stacks compared to my current recipes.

Ooo, and more clonex gel. Time to do some cloning of those outdoor plants for safe keeping and seed making.

Exactly! It's cheap and infrequent!

The Bud Igniter, I believe, is used to speed up the transition to Flower. I don't use it, but I believe it the "first part" of AN's bud enhancer additives. Starts with Bud Igniter, then switch to Big Bud, then switch to Overdrive.

When I missed adding the Overdrive, it was when I was doing the SOG grow and wasn't weighing all the plants.

My last harvest, though, I had another WaterFarm monster (not quite as tall the current Blue OG, but close and tons of thick colas!) that would have overgrown the tent but I took out the smaller plant so she had the whole tent to herself and the buds got so big/heavy it spread out into the space nicely, and I ended up with over 6 z's from a single plant in that 5' tent using LED's! :yahoo: So, I don't think either the BB or OD are hurting the situation!!! :cheesygrinsmiley:

I should have taken some pics of that one, but hadn't made the "return" yet and I don't keep any of the pics on my PC - they all get uploaded/stored here. I'm hoping those Blue OG buds get that big! :MoreNutes:

Happy cloning!!! I'm going to top the Blue OG clones today and will likely clone both those tops. I don't know why since I don't really need them, but I just hate throwing out a viable cutting!

VERY QUICK UPDATE

I've identified the smell on the Blue OG as a mix of pine, citrus, and diesel (in that order!). It really smells great! We'll see how it evolves over the next few weeks and after a good cure! :yummy:

The buds are still a little light (but they are stacked!), and giving it some more time to put on weight before I start judging.

In the mean time, here are a couple of bud shots from today:

I have one of the worse senses of smell around. I do find these charts do help. Kind of like being trained in your smell for wines. It's alot easier to say yea that's what I smell over what is it I smell.....

Wow! You certainly get lots of color into your photographs. Beautiful bud shot.

Your link to the drying box caught my eye. No wonder you made MOTM that year. Well done! Had to give you reps for that. :high-five:

Thanks, Sue! :thanks:

Believe it or not, I still use the EXACT same drying box! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Yeah...I'm kinda known for those dramatic pics!

I've always grown with LED's and the camera I use (which is only a 10mp Nikon Coolpix I originally got from OMM!) doesn't have a white adjustment.

It prevents me from getting good/clear distance shots under the LEDs, but when I'm close enough to use the flash, the pics come out very cool looking between the color LEDs and the white light of the flash which brings out the greens and the trichomes. :yummy:

No camera here. I'm limited to the iPhone or iPad. They've been good to me. My first grow I would get the most beautiful purple tones on the whiteboard behind the plants in the morning light that I've been longing to reproduce again. I used to roll out of bed and do gardening first before Dale woke and had to disconnect from the dialysis machine. I used to post the updates by 10 AM. Lol! Things have certainly changed.

I'm pleased to hear you're still using that box. I was just thinking last week that something like a box with some sort of odor control might be a good thing for me to construct. Now I'm wondering if that thought got imbedded by you. :laughtwo:

SUNDAY RES CHANGE UPDATE

I'm really too busy to be doing res changes and posting updates today, but, oh well! :)

I had to get the res change done today because I have workers that will be around all next week and won't have another good opportunity any time soon. And, I wasn't going to do a res change and not, at least, post a quick update.

Let's get the unknown bag seed plant out of the way before I move on to the Blue OG - and I mean LITERALLY!!! I've never considered culling a plant halfway through flower before, but I was VERY close today. She's healthy & all, but has very little room in the cabinet, buds are developing very slow...just a little anemic.

If I thought I could bend the Blue OG's branches down far enough to hang the Mars 144, I would have cleared the BS (yes, pun was intended!) and done it. I just don't think I could give enough room for the Mars, so I'll let the BS give whatever she can. That, and I know if I did end up culling it, it probably would have been some of the best smoke ever. Now that I'm keeping it, I don't expect it to be that great!

As for the Blue OG, I made an executive decision to wait one more week before swapping the Big Bud for the Overdrive. She just looks like she's got more time and I don't want to rush it and pull her off nutes too early, especially when I can do a quick flush, if needed. I did slightly lower her Micro/Grow/Bloom nutes and increased the Big Bud and Bud Candy.

Here's a pic of her out of the tent in some natural "bathroom" lighting, and before anyone else makes the joke, yes, it might be the only time anyone would ever want to smell my bathroom!

Some posts ago, I alluded to the fact that she was "stacked" but, under the LED's, it's impossible to get a good distance photo. But, check out all these lower buds:

And you can see them running up this whole cola. Once they fill out, it should have some weight to it! :MoreNutes:

Hey Hey, Mr Krip! Thought I'd drop over and reciprocate some reps; well deserved they are, by the looks of things here! Great photos!

Nice pic's.
I bought a small light and 'box' for taking pic's of e-ba-. I ended using the little lites that came with it alot. Perfect to get some nice macro pictures. But then any 'blue' lights work good. With the LED's in the background makes for a intresting shot. Keepem Green

I can smell them:high-five:

Funny you mention that! :)

So can I, and it's not necessarily a good thing!

Yesterday, I started smelling the Blue OG in the room (not the tent!), which means I need a new carbon filter. I've had the same carbon scrubber for a couple/few years now, and with the SOG, it's been probably 200 plants or more, so it's more than due for replacement, although, the timing sucks to have another expense! :(

...Like rotten fruit, and earth. Not putrid, just pungent. I can see it lol.

For some good news...

My seed order from Herbies came in today!!! :yahoo:

I'm going to pop a Cherry Bomb and a White Widow. I was originally going to do a Fruit Punch with the CB, but, as much as I like the fruity strains, having something a little different might be a good idea. Geez...I can't even finish this post without changing...maybe I'll just pop all three?

When I was doing SOG, I found it tough to effectively maintain more than two moms, although, back then, I also had a dozen clones going at any one time, so I might be able to manage it...

OK... :volcano-smiley: ....I'm gonna' think on this..... :smokin2: .....and... :bongrip: I'll let you know.... :Hookah: ....when I figure out.... RoorRip ....what I'm gonna do.... :bong:
