Tales From The Krip!

Congrats on your harvest Krip! 4 zips should get you through a couple/few months no? I'm a gram a day guy so that would very me almost all the way through the 4 months lol.

I've done some cabinet growing and was pulling 8 zips per grow out of a 2x3x7 cabinet. Make sure you plan your intake and outtake to be able to keep up with the heat of the lights you plan to use. That's probably the most important thing. I watched a show on that leaf guy and his journey to get those things to production. I'm surprised he was able to get someone to invest, they were having nothing but problems with the prototype.

You can definitely do better than that for 1500. Hardest part is making the cab light tight while allowing for sufficient airflow.

KIG!

EARLY SMOKE REPORT

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last couple of days but not too much to report and watching the buds dry is kinda like watching the grass grow, if you know what I mean!

I cancelled the order on that cabinet. I'm still likely going to get it, I just realized it's way to early and have a lot of work that needs to be done here before I can really get back to growing. I'm just anxious not having anything but that tote right now and it kinda feels like being naked. I just need to have a grow back up to feel "normal" again! :)

OK...for the Sour OG smoke report...

They've only been in jars for a few days and I was really going to wait to even do a smoke report, but I've actually been a little concerned.

The buds in the jar seem to have lost that danky diesel smell and really just smell kind of earthy. They look nice, but that "primo" smell is just not there and, frankly, I'm not sure why.

So, I ground up a couple of the small buds and being only slightly moist inside so they ground up nice.

I was VERY happy that, once ground up, the unmistakable lemony diesel smell is there strong, it just isn't noticeable in the jar.

The smoke is very smooth already and should only improve with a full cure.

The potency is great! I'd definitely rate a solid 7 and maybe even an 8 in the "gets you stoned" department. I could instantly feel a nice buzz after the first bong hit. It wasn't a good enough buzz to not make me want one more, but after the second one, I was good for about an hour.

It's most certainly not one of those "get motivated and spark your creative instincts" kind of buzzes, which is somewhat what I expected with the Sativa and early harvest. Much to my delight, it's more of a "makes you forget your name and where you live" kind of stones.

It's really tough to give it an overall rating. I'd say it could have been an 8 but lack of the diesel smell in the bag would bring it down to a 6.

It's still not bad having a 6 that smokes like an 8, though!

Happy Harvests!

I was also looking into the whole metal cabinet thing Mr K, but decided against it for moving purposes and also throwing your back out while moving it really sucks :laughtwo: Very strange that the smell isn't there, anyhoo, again congrats on the harvest and good luck with the house! :high-five:

That metal cabinet will be feather-light compared to my last wooden one! :)

I'm hoping the smell will develop after more time curing in the jars. Right now, they're still only dried buds and not yet cured. I just expected much more of a stink based on how those buds smelled in the tent.

Thanks, Brother! Funny you should ask!...

New Seed Order

I picked up the following:

(5) Barney's Farm Bad Azz Kush | 23% THC, 650 gr/m2 Yield, 55 Days
(5) Pyramid Seeds Tutankamon | AK47 with a Whopping 33% THC (added last minute!)
(3) Afghan Kush | Buy a Hardy Landrace Indica Today!
(3) Mazar X White Rhino | Buy Hard, Resin-Covered Cannabis Seeds Now!

And, received the following freebies:

(1) Cream of the Crop Crop Circle Auto | 800 gr/m2, 55 Days Total
(1) Free Critical
(1) Royal Queen Seeds Northern Light Auto | 9 Weeks Total | 16% THC

And, I think with my last minute addition, I'll also get (1) Free Dizzy Lights Auto but not sure they'll include it since I added the Tut after the rest of the order was placed, and really not too worried about it.

Plus, I received a 20% discount and will get another five free seeds for ordering by Bitcoin (on the order, it's listed as a "Bitcoin Gift Pack" so not sure what they will be, yet)

Also, since I won the Gorilla Seeds giveaway this month, I had them add to the order:

(2) Advanced Female Seeds Honeysuckle | Sugary Sweet & Extra Potent
(2) Advanced Female Seeds Pineapple Chunk | Sweet, Potent & So Smooth
(2) Feminised Seeds OG Kush | Hardcore Power & Solid Yields
(2) Deep Shag Seeds | Get a Stupendously Strong Strain Now!
(2) Advanced Female Seeds Northern High Lights | Refined for Indoors

UPDATE:

I received the above seed order today and it appears there were some change-ups on the freebies.

Here's what I actually received:

I got the:

(5) Barney's Farm Bad Azz Kush | 23% THC, 650 gr/m2 Yield, 55 Days
(5) Pyramid Seeds Tutankamon | AK47 with a Whopping 33% THC (added last minute!)
(3) Afghan Kush | Buy a Hardy Landrace Indica Today!
(3) Mazar X White Rhino | Buy Hard, Resin-Covered Cannabis Seeds Now!

which were the "paid" seeds. And, the Tut came in a "bonus" pack that had two additional seeds, so I received seven instead of five. :yahoo:

I also received the:

(1) Free Critical (Royal Queen)

The other two freebies were switched and I ended up with:

(1) AutoMazar AutoFem | Buy Award-Winning, AutoFlowering Seeds Today!
(1) Dr Krippling Jumping Black Dash Auto | Medical-Grade Weed Seeds

There was also a sealed "Gift Pack" that appears to be the bonus for paying with BitCoin. I haven't opened the package, so don't know how many seeds are inside, but the package is labelled by FastBuds and the strain that is checked on the pack is Fast Buds LSD-25 Auto | Purple Buds, White Crystals & Black Resin.

Overall, I'm very happy with those changes. And, while I'm not much for autos, that FastBuds version of Lucy looks & sounds great! :yummy:

The Gorilla contest give-away seeds were also changed up quite a bit and, once again, I'm not complaining about any of the changes, although, I would have liked to try that HoneySuckle, which was missing, and wanted the OG Kush to make RSO for my dad. But, I do have plenty of other Kush strains and Gorilla was MORE than generous, as you'll see in a minute!

Here's what I actually received of the strains I requested from the contest win (note, they actually added an additional Pineapple Chunk!):

(3) Advanced Female Seeds Pineapple Chunk | Sweet, Potent & So Smooth
(2) Deep Shag Seeds | Get a Stupendously Strong Strain Now!
(2) Advanced Female Seeds Northern High Lights | Refined for Indoors

Basically, it was missing four seeds I requested including two each of the Honeysuckle and OG Kush. But, Gorilla had already added an additional Pineapple Chunk, so they had to make up for THREE more seeds (which were freebies anyways, so I already wasn't complaining! :) ).

Here's what they added to make up for those three missing seeds (or four, if you want to count it that way!):

(3) Serious Seeds Chronic Feminized | The Best Weed Seeds on Earth

AND..ALL from Barney's Farm:

(1) Barney's Farm Amnesia Lemon | Strong Citrus Flavor & High THC
(1) Barneys Farm LSD | Voted Best Indica Seed of 2008 | 24% THC :yahoo:
(1) Barneys Farm Pineapple Chunk | Best Indica at HTCC 2009
(1) Barney's Farm Tangerine Dream | 2010 Cannabis Cup Winner, 23% THC
(1) Barney's Farm Vanilla Kush | 2009 High Times Cannabis Cup Champ

I've been aching to try growing the Tangerine Dream but have been wary due to the limited height of the former flower tent. With a taller tent, I'm hoping I can grow it. I'm also looking forward to the Vanilla Kush which I've heard great things about.

Actually, all of those Barney's strains are great, IMHO! :thumb:

So, MUCH thanks to Gorilla Seeds for being a great sponsor, the awesome contest, and all the great new seeds to have fun with! :thanks:

Two side notes on this:

1) Sherry was great to work with and helped me make several changes to the order and resolve some payment issues along the way, so a special thanks to Sherry! :thanks:

2) The package arrived OPENED!!! :thedoubletake: I almost defecated myself when I signed for the package and saw this. The envelope to the package was COMPLETELY open and I was sure it was going to be a problem. BUT, the stealth packaging was so good, none of the seeds were lost (I can't believe Gorilla would have put any more freebies in there! :) ) and it went completely unnoticed by the incredibly alert and trusted members of our state-of-the-art postal system!

I definately recommend Gorilla Seed Bank | Worldwide Cannabis Seeds Delivery for your seed orders! :thumb:

Happy Harvests!

Uh, YEAH!!:high-five:
Nice haul brother. Been a while since I saw any Lucy, and never seen an auto Lucy. I always wanted to try the Vanilla Kush. And all the others look like fun too! Excited for you my man!

I just posted this on Brother Icemud's Journal where there's been a discussion about some great work he's been doing to help reform California's laws regarding cannabis extracts.

When the FDA along with the legal and medical systems dismiss MMJ as safe for medical use, keep this in mind!

Also, you'll have to give us lay-people the rundown on the best way to purchase bitcoins for seed purchases!....Please:smokin2:

It's very easy, but takes a few minutes to get setup in the beginning.

First, you can think of BitCoin like a foreign currency but, instead of being associated with a country (like US currency, Canadian currency, etc.) it's digital. So, it's country is the computer, so to speak!

Just like when you convert money to any other foreign currency, there will be an exchange rate that will fluctuate from day-to-day. If I buy Swiss Francs with $1,000 USD, for example, tomorrow my Swiss Francs may be worth more or LESS than the $1,000 I paid for them. The same applies to BitCoin!

To get started, you'll need to sign up with a "BitCoin Wallet" which is basically like signing up online for a PayPal account. First you sign up, and then you'll need to attach a bank account and/or credit card so you can purchase the bitcoins, and you will likely also need to upload some documentation and go through some verification process.

Each wallet has a unique ID that looks something like a 64-digit encrypted hash code (but, I haven't counted the digits!).

Once your wallet is setup, you can purchase (or sell) BitCoin and, from there, transactions are very similar to paying out of a funded PayPal account except instead of sending money to a PayPal email address, you send the money to their BitCoin wallet using that specific wallet's unique hash code.

I hope that helps!

Cool! I watched a documentary on the Bitcoin. Kind of crazy, but cool. I've seen deals at seed places that are pretty tempting, I may have to get me some o them!

unprecedented mmj study in israel shows worst side effects to be dry mouth & the munchies!

results of unprecedented cannabis study unveiled at jerusalem health conference

by nanette porter on may 27, 2016

5/29/2016 update:

the israel national institute for health policy research has provided us with a copy of the initial results from the study health utilization and characterization of patients using medical cannabis in israel. here are the real facts of the study:

Israel is seeing a significant increase in the use of medical cannabis. The law approves its use for non-cancer and cancer pain, nausea and lack of appetite in cancer patients, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, inflammatory bowel disease and more. The number of licensed users in israel currently reaches over 23,500 users. It was observed that no evaluation or follow-up of these patients was taking place.

The objective of the study was to follow-up with new users of medical cannabis, and only those who were medicating for pain, for four months to determine and characterize:

  • socio-demographic and disease profile
  • indications for cannabis prescription
  • methods of administration
  • exposure and dose
  • past treatments up until cannabis authorization
  • long-term side-effects and safety
  • compliance and drop-out
  • effectiveness of treatment in accordance with initial indications

213 patients were interviewed (65 of them cancer patients). The majority of patients had tried different treatment before cannabis and decided to give cannabis a try due to side effects or lack of efficiency of other treatments.

79.9% of cancer patients and 67.1% of non-cancer patients reported a variety of side effects, with the most frequent being hunger, dry mouth, elevated mood and tiredness.

79 non-cancer patients (interviewed eight months after approval) indicated a decrease in the worst pain reported in the last 24 hours from 8.5±1.6 before treatment to 7.1±2.7 in the first interview and 6.7±2.8 in the second interview (p<0.0001).

only 9% of the patients reported on the first interview that they had stopped using medical cannabis.

the study concluded that monitoring of medical cannabis use is essential and will influence the future decision about this scientifically controversial issue, and that evaluating outcomes of medical cannabis has important health policy implications and should be a priority for policymakers.

original copy:

the 6th international jerusalem conference on health policy, held may 23-25, provided a platform for exploring the dynamic evolution of health policy worldwide and acknowledging its complex, uncertain and interactive nature. pesach shvartzman, one of israel’s leading family physicians and a prominent expert in both pain control and palliative medicine, took this opportunity to unveil the findings of an “unprecedented” cannabis study he has been heading since the latter part of 2013.

The study was performed to help determine whether patients experience any after-effects from cannabis use, how many of them stop using it and why. “we couldn’t find any similar study in the world,” schwartzman said. “it’s a rapidly growing business and we need to know what we’re doing to our patients when we give them cannabis.”

financed by the national institute for health policy research, and conducted together with dr. Silvio brill (who heads the pain treatment unit at tel aviv’s ichilov hospital and is also chairman of the israel pain association) and dr. Itai gur-arie (the head of the sheba medical center, tel hashomer’s pain management unit), the study was to follow new cannabis users for two years. It was also to be based on interviews held with 1,500-2,000 patients who agreed to take part in the project. The premise of the study was to look at their socioeconomic characteristics, disease profiles, the medical indications for use, dosages, treatment given to the patient before giving cannabis, treatment safety, side effects, response and effectiveness of treatment and the patient’s use of health services before and after treatment.

The patients would be observed at three pain clinics and interviewed by phone during the first three months of their treatment and then every four months for two years, enabling the scientists to ascertain the cannabis’ success and effectiveness, as well as which uses are more effective and what kind of patients benefit the most from cannabis treatment. Most of the users reported in later interviews that their pain, nausea, anxiety, appetite and general feeling had improved. Fewer than one in 10 stopped taking the drug after the first interview and 6% after the second interview.

At the health policy conference, shvartzman unveiled results of the study (as outlined in the update above) and concluded that most users experienced significant improvement in pain and function, but that cannabis also caused side effects, with more than 77% reporting side effects, all of which are minor. It is interesting to note here that the majority smoked the cannabis as opposed to ingesting oil or vaporization.

the study revealed the worse side effects of cannabis to be dry mouth and hunger.

the most frequent side effects were dry mouth (60.6%); hunger (60%); high moods (44%); sleepiness (23%); fatigue (28.6%); red eyes (32%); and blurred vision (13%). Let’s compare that to prescription drugs. Side effects of prescription drugs are inevitable, even with federal regulations that oversee these drugs. In fact, each year 4.5 million americans visit an emergency room or doctor’s office for adverse prescription drug side effects and a startling 2 million other patients who are already hospitalized suffer the ill effects of prescription drugs even while under the care of medical professionals. This includes death, physical debilitation, heart conditions, stroke and cancer, just to name a few.

Shvartzman reported that some 42% of all the patients had been referred to medical cannabis by their doctors, while only 24% from a friend or family member. The prescriptions for the drug were most commonly given by palliative medicine specialists, orthopedists and other specialists, and only a tiny minority (0.4%) from the family physician. The majority of the participants (99.6%) sought medical cannabis as a treatment after conventional medications proved ineffective and nearly 56% said they wanted it because the previous drugs caused side effects.

The results of this study are promising, but before medicinal cannabis can be made more widely available and accepted as a viable treatment, even for conditions such as chronic pain in which the evidence of benefit is strongest, governments, businesses and so on will need to be more supportive of research on the medical uses of cannabis and provide the leadership necessary to change how the drug is currently scheduled.

QUICK UPDATE

It's a quick update today because there's not much to update!

The Sour OG clones in the veg tote are branching out. The Cherry Bomb has already been given a UBT and is putting out its four main colas. The White Widow is struggling behind but appears to be just starting to really go into veg after taking her sweet time in putting out her starter roots.

I cloned the top of the Cherry Bomb and, although it was a little small for a cutting, it rooted just fine and I'll likely transplant to soil in the next 24-48 hours, or so.

Here's a quick pic of her:

DSCN36743.JPG

Other than that, the Sour OG buds from the recent harvest are still curing and have been in jars for a week now. I've probably dipped into close to a 1/4 oz. so far in sampling (and sharing samples!). Again, it's good smoke, and while it smells fantastic once broken up, I'm still waiting for the killer smell to develop in the jars.

Other than that, the mold remediation of the house started today, so at least there's work being done! :yahoo:

I'm really looking forward to getting all that work & renovation out of the way so I can get the "real" grow back up.

I do plan on making a batch of RSO this weekend for my dad and some extra for a neighbor's Doberman Pinscher who recently had to have one his front paws removed due to cancer and has only been given about another year to live.

I ordered an induction cook-top just for the occasion and am anxious to try that out. It seems to me that it's about the safest way to evaporate the solvent and has (hopefully!) accurate temperature control that can be adjusted in 5* increments from 100*-575*F.

Plus, not having a kitchen right now, I think I might get some additional use of that induction burner! :)

I was going to just use the same induction burner to do the decarb, but broke down and spent another $17 for an Aroma Housewares Single Hot Plate. It only has low/warm/medium/high settings so I'll need to measure and play with some of the temps, but it should be much quicker to decarb than using a cup warmer.

I'll possibly document at least some of the process but I think everyone here, at this point, is probably very familiar with how it's done and there are numerous good tutorials here on :420:

Happy Harvests!
