Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL - LED

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

We want leaves! We want leaves!

Worth repeating. :green_heart:

I awaken every morning filled with anticipation.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

I was following a link from petergreen's journal and came across this statement that made me feel really good about my living mulch.

“…analysis shows that plant communities with many different species are nearly 1.5 times more productive than those with only one species (such as a cornfield or carefully tended lawn), and ongoing research finds even stronger benefits of diversity when the various other important natural services of ecosystems are considered. Diverse communities are also more efficient at capturing nutrients, light, and other limiting resources.” (Source: ScienceDaily.com via Virginia Institute of Marine Science)

Yep. Diversity. Always a good thing.

Welcome Night4wings20. Thanks. I ran my first grow successfully with the closet wide open. This time I want to get the environment dialed in better and play with more plants. Before the LED gets here this week I need to control light leaks. Still learning here myself.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you can get out of that Grizzly Purple Kush. If you get great results people are going to get excited.

Stick around. We have a great bunch of travelers. Always room for one more. We work in LOS and HB for the most part here, but the discussions on finding better ways to improve our harvests are insightful to any growers. I think you'll find a lot to enjoy. This grow I got unexpectedly hooked on the idea of an 11/13 light schedule. This will be fun. :laughtwo::green_heart:

Congratulations on doing such a great grow with a higher chance of light leakage :) What will your LED output be like 300w 600w? My friend here in AUS has some nice good quality LED's so i'm interested in as much info on growing with LED's as posssible. I think we all are and that's the beauty with this plant so much to do with it!

I'm hoping for the as described yield production of 700gm off 400w of light, I'm thinking that because i vegged it for a while though it could be more :) We will see.

Not going anywhere soon :) I do use LOS as well so it will great to see someone using the same technique and seeing how yours and others results compare. 11/13 hours will be a very interesting light period to play with, i just got into auto's so if it works out well for you i'll try it with one of mine :)

The 11/13 is brand new to me. This entire process is new to me. I just study hard and then jump right on in and get the feet wet. Blame this one on DrZiggy. I was originally inspired by danishoes21 but Zig cemented it. I was already having fun growing but I want to have THAT kind of fun. :laughtwo:

My LED is 450 Watts. I know next to nothing about them - hence the wisdom of surrounding myself with these amazing growers with experience. I'm a quick study and they're so generous with helpful advice.

Knowledge is truly precious :) It will be fun to go along with you and experience the conditions you play with, keep them green and clean. They'll do the rest :)

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Indulging in one of my favorite pastimes these days, I'm roaming through the room, in and out of virtual conversations as I take a few and relax at the end of the day. I thoroughly enjoy the switching between grows and the challenge of keeping track of numerous streams of thought going on simultaneously. It always makes me smile how we all follow each other around sometimes. In each of you I see a touchstone to the larger 420 community as you reach out to other threads. Together we form this web of joy that filters out into the world. Cool.

The entire experience reminds me of the years we tattooed. If you came in to be tattooed three years apart I would recognize you on sight and by name and remember to ask how your oldest daughter was doing in... would that be 6th grade now? My how time flies. :laughtwo:

Always did love people.

Tonight I'm cleaning up after last night's bud play, smoking up the sugar leaves that got left behind. As I delicately pick up each leaf to preserve the integrity of the trichomes, I think of all the years I threw money away on stuff smashed into plastic bags. I didn't even know what trichomes were a year ago! That stuff in baggies is an affront to the dignity of this majestic and beautiful plant species.

Entering a new chapter now. Thank you for choosing to help me write it. :green_heart:

so true,, i know exactly what you mean, all of it,, trichomes?? real pot?? so true,,, i watched some of the videos out there when i first started,, bud hunters if you know them,, think thats them,, one thing i picked up on,, not that i never heard the word before,, but i kinda understood it in a different way,,

a little respect for the earth and it's abundance and beauty too,, and the word of course, i already said it,,

'respect'...

i have a bit more myself now , for that beautiful flower,, and that's what it is after all,,,,,, and maybe i should, or maybe i shouldn't,, but, i do,, and i am not gonna fight it,,,, any more

It's so awesome to see peoples reactions when they have the first few harvests it's just great. Love it.

Daily Update: Waiting For Germination - Day 7

Arrrrgh!!! Still nothing breaking the surface. The temptation to dig them out to check is strong, but my desire to let nature take it's course is stronger. When I woke this morning I remembered DrZiggy asking me about ground temperature. I realized that the thermometer may have been reading incorrectly, and sure enough it was giving me an inside reading when I was needing an outside one. When I checked for the correct reading I discovered it was cool in there.

image21862.jpg

So this means my seeds aren't getting the warm cue to rise and shine sleepyheads! Thinking about it I decided the simplistic approach would be to add another light and keep the curtain closed in the hopes of warming it up a bit more in there. I made that a warm bulb to add a bit more full spectrum.

image21859.jpg

It is not unheard of that seeds can take over a week to sprout. No need to panic yet. I'll just keep watching and waiting.

image21860.jpg

image21861.jpg

I dribbled another 1 1/2 TBS of coconut water at room temp. over each.

While we wait why not have some fun?

Sweetsue's Old School Herb-Powered Buttery Brownies

This is the recipe I developed while my children were small. It kept the family happy through many crises and celebrations. Mmmmmm. I still had all that decarboxylated sugar leaf material from the last journal waiting to be used. I added the bud bits I had cooked for today, deciding that buttery brownies was a better idea than just popping buds.

First, gather ingredients.

image21848.jpg

Melt 1/4 pound of butter in a saucepan. Butter. Real butter. No cheating.

image21849.jpg

Turn the fire off and add 1 cup of sugar and 3 HEAPING Tablespoons of cocoa. Mix well.

image21850.jpg

Vigorously beat in two eggs. Do it quick so they don't begin to cook.

image21851.jpg

You should already have 3/4 cup of flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt sifted together. Dump that in and stir well. Really beat it in there.

image21852.jpg

I like to beat until I see this nice glossy texture and bubbles forming.

image21853.jpg

Add the magic ingredient. Before beginning I crumbled everything up nice and fine and pulled out any petioles that were too woody. I tossed them into the worm bin. In the end I had 1/3 cup of cannabis shake. I admit to eating one of the bud bits. Cook's prerogative.

image21854.jpg

Into a buttered baking dish. My square 8x8 is doing SWICK duty with the aloe vera, so this round one was called to duty.

image21855.jpg

Yummy cleanup.

image21856.jpg

Bake at 350 degrees F.....

image21857.jpg

..... for 30-35 minutes. I usually shoot for 33 minutes.

image21858.jpg

Mmmmmmmm. I love the crusty pieces around the edge. Mmmmmmmmm.

image21863.jpg

Cut into 8 portions.

image21864.jpg

I get a kick out of the obvious herby bits incorporated throughout. These turned out moist and tasty. (I just tasted the crumbs). A single portion should give you hours of relief. I can't try yet because that wouldn't be fair to Dale, now would it? :laughtwo:

image21865.jpg

I'll report back later about the effect.

My apartment smells soooooo good!!!

Have a wonderful day everyone. Spread some joy while you're at it.

:Namaste:

Sue would it help to put some plastic wrap over your pots to raise the moisture/humidity?

The soil is evenly moist, thanks to this marvelous SWICK system. It's just a case of letting nature lead the way. We're so conditioned to instant gratification. :laughtwo:

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Sweetsue, great job with the brownies! :thumb:

Thanks DrZiggy. That means a lot coming from you. Reading your journal inspired me. I can't wait to have a steady supply of meds to play with. I need ingredients to begin exploring the world of edibles.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Late to the show... Better late than never :)

Not too late Mono. Never too late. We're having a blast, but the seeds have yet to sprout. Join the fun. Make yourself comfortable. Brownie? :green_heart:

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Maybe the seeds are waiting for the LED to arrive. You said you were talking to the seeds...did you tell them too much? They know Sue...they have become self-aware.

Hadn't thought if that possibility!

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

For heating up the soil, a regular incandescent bulb would be the best, then swap over to cfl's when they break the surface.
In nature the sun heats the soil quite a bit.

A single 60 watt 4"-6" or so over the soil (one for each pot) would be about right (put hand over soil and see how it feels heat wise).
I don't think the sprouts would get hurt with just normal light even if it were for a full day.
