Sweet Leaf's First Grow: WW Auto

I always recommend is running 5gal for autos
Yeah, I've been thinking of going to 5 gal pots. Currently I use 3 gal pots which many recommend for autos, but every plant I've harvested to date has been root bound - hardly any soil left, just the root ball. The last few harvests I've been growing 1:1 CBD/THC for a couple of plants and make oil out of them for my wife - she doesn't like the "side effects" of THC (poor girl). But I grow a high THC sativa for myself. I don't mind the "side effects" at all.

I see it happen all too often which means the plant wanted to grow more but the grower unknowingly didn't allow it. Like I said it is debatable but I see plenty of awesome autos in 5gals. I've seen them in 3gal as well but the monsters like the 5gals.

I'm with you on that. The higher THC levels the better and I can go sats or indies on that. I like 'em both. :thumb:

With my puny light setup, I can fit 4- 3gal pots or 3- 5 gal pots. I'm gonna go 5 gal next time. Here's my third grow this year, Day 37, 3 gal pots, in preflower. Getting really crowded. This crop is Sweet Cream Auto (2 each), Sweet Tooth Auto, and Amnesia Haze Auto

Autos are so finicky. You have to feed them early but not overwater them. So, little bits of water and increasing the food weekly according to the plant size.
I use megacrop and day 1-5 they get 1g/gal, day 6-10 they get 2g/gal etc. But I have to make sure they are dry enough to get the next round of food. Too much water at the beginning really slows the growth down. A good strong auto should have 5 nodes by day 21 starting on the sixth.
So even if you have a 5gal pot you still need to get them big enough to fill it in. This round of autos for me I completely messed up because of lighting and timing issues. But when you hit it right they are a blast to watch!

Agreed, at least for the couple of weeks or so. The only drawback I see is that if you mess up, you can't keep them in veg in order to fix mistakes. When they go to bloom, there's no turning back.
True dat, which is why most growers will recommend to new growers to run photos first. This gives them time to correct any mistakes and learn early. It's hard to learn anything on a first grow when you're chasing your tail. :)

Sweet's great. He wants to learn and also does his own research. He'll be on his own next grow and just asking questions as he needs to but he's learned lots.

Thanks MM!
I Love this Forum , Experienced growers like yourself willing to help us Newbies and Mentor us. I had Duggan as a mentor last grow and I learned SO Much. I will still need his help on and off but now I have an idea of what to do when. Thank You MrSauga and any other folks who have helped others like myself

I think most people that join are newbies and as they learn that knowledge is then gifted forward to other members as a show of thanks to their mentors. It is a great place to be. Thanks for the kind words PC!
