Stunger's Organic Soil Stealth Balcony: Landrace Mulanje & Other Sativas

General Update

Greetings 420 enthusiasts! The cyclone warning has not come to anything as far as my location goes. The sun is beating down and it's pretty hot on the balcony in the afternoon, too hot for bare feet. Check out the temperature reading I just took from the stone tiles, it topped out at 50.5°C or 122.9°F. Today's air temperature only half that!

I'll probably give the girls a second watering shortly. Today, aside from up-potting an Aloe Vera plant, I did a little bit of further maintenance LST, and I supercropped a few errant stems of the Mango Sherbert which really wants to spread, I am very sure she'd look absolutely lovely if she was allowed to make her own shape.

Here's a brief pictorial update of how they're doing.

Thanks for dropping by, I hope your gardens are coming along nicely, be well and keep safe. :ganjamon:
The health level of your plants appears to be off the charts. They're so perfectly green. Awesome grow. I have a question that you surely must have considered so I'm curious to hear - when the tiles are that hot, and you have plastic pots sitting right on them, do you ever get concerned about the root temperature at the base? Or does the canopy pretty much eliminate that concern cuz it's all shaded under there and doesn't get to 122 degree? Or do you even maybe do it on purpose (not put them on risers I mean) one cuz you don't want to give up even a riser's worth of height for stealth, or two cuz you're intentionally wanting the roots warmer? You see what I mean?

Thanks Jon, I mostly try to feed the soil, and just give the plants some worm wee with their waterings. With regard to elevating the containers from the tiles, it would reduce a little from the available stealth but not much, basically I am not bothered, underneath the containers it is not hot, but there is a lot of extra heat radiating off the tiles at the plants.
They grow well in spite Stunger! Well done! That's some heat!
Cheers Otter, in another month or so that's going to be my droughting heat!

Nice to see you around again sy! I hope all is well with you and yours. :ciao:

Thank you Shed!! I have been well. And safe. No further incidents to report!

I've actually wrapped up a couple of runs and am into a new one!!

Thankful to still be growing. :Namaste: :cheer:

Amazing bushy plants. Great job. I know im a little late but count me in lol.

Really interesting lineup this summer, Stunger!

Very interested to see the Mulanje in flower, and also to see a possibly different pheno of the Mango Sherbert?

:yummy: :thumb:
Thanks sy! As Shed said, it is nice to see you again :nerd-with-glasses:. You're right with the lineup, it should be interesting how the Sativas go. I already know the Mango Sherbert, so I'll be looking forward to seeing her familiar frostiness and if I can do a cross with her and the Mulanje, then even better!

Thank you!! It's nice to see everyone's gardens again.

Different seed for the Mango Sherb so you never know - could have some interesting variation!

Mini Update - I gave micro topdressing of Neem powder and Blood n Bone

I sprinkled about 2 tablespoons of Neem and the same of Blood and Bone over the mulch layer of the two 30L/8gal containers, and I gave 3 tablespoons of each to the two larger 50L/13gal containers, then watered in with some worm wee. The Neem powder while said to give some Nitrogen, I am giving it more for it's anti bug properties. Last year, I waited until the lower leaves started going yellowish, but this grow I am starting slightly earlier with what I deem to be a very low dose. I will look to do another at the end of the month.

The morning view thru the side window

After moving the containers to fully open the 'tent' doors

Well that's it for now, they're progressing and getting bigger every day. Be well folks! :ganjamon:

Beautiful. So healthy. What does the Blood and Bone add to the mix?

Looking very good, Stunger!
That balcony's gonna get small real soon!

Thanks Jon! The Blood n Bone (organic) is 10-4-0.2, I am mostly adding it for the Nitrogen, since they've been working hard making growth. Many strains even in flowering can still use similar amounts of Nitrogen to vegging.

Thanks Carcass! Yip indeed, 4 plants is really squashing it but we'll see how they fit in over the coming weeks!

Excellent amendment! I was thrilled when I saw it as an ingredient in the GeoFlora nutrients. It is a great prophylactic. For the plants not getting GF this year, will be getting neem meal topdressings too. I will be trying insect frass foliar sprays this year too.

Stop talking sexy plant biology talk to me...ok?!

I love the side view and it's nice to see live plants in those window boxes!
Thanks Shed! I mostly left old plants in the window boxes because it helped with the stealth of keeping the view dull and boring to look at. But this year they have been refreshed with new soil and water crystals, and once the colas start reaching towards the balcony rails I will hang them on to help shield them, but for the time being such a shield is not needed and would only reduce a bit of the direct light that reaches them.

Cheers BA! The soil of each container was amended in the off season with 1/3 - 1/2 cup powdered Neem also. I think it is a great amendment too.

I can't source any insect frass where I am, but I included 1 - 1.5 cups of dried shrimp to each container's soil in my off season amending (I added the same the previous year too). I subscribe to the view that if you can make the soil nice, the plants can mostly take care of themselves.
