Stunger's Last Stand: Banned To The Balcony!

Mmm. Looking tasty af.
Cheers Reave, I'm loving it too, just have to guide these ladies to harvest now! :hookah:
That's one hell of a balcony Stunger! I'm sure you're sad to see it empty. You can always plant something in the window boxes :).
Thanks Shed, it is such a rotten difference when the plants are gone.

I'm not sure about prettying up the balcony planters. I regularly think about putting some proper plants in as I would sure like that too, but in the meantime I've been happy knowing that it makes the view unattractive for any neighbours that may be gawping in my direction. But a bird must have crapped out some daisy seeds in one of the boxes which have grown and they've proven very resilient to the heat, plus I can probably find a few more growing wild around the house rather than waste money buying them. I don't want a 'thicket' of growth as I still want the sun to shine thru so those daisies might fit the bill for that. At this stage that might be a job for the boring 'off season'!

Pollination attempt review update

3 days ago I attempted to pollinate 2 minor stems of each plant. Today I have taken some closeup pics for the purpose of seeing if I can make a determination on whether the pistils appear to have been pollinated. For each plant I have taken 2 close up of buds that participated in the attempt pollination, and 1 pic of a bud that didn't take part!

I think there appears a wee difference, the pollinated buds look a little worse for wear, but they had my pollen laden finger rubbed over them, so is that the reason from more browning of pistils or did some pollination occur? Because there was a question mark on whether the pollen had been exposed to too much humidity and may have not not been viable. Anyway, take a look, it's only been 3 days and I am very happy to hear any opinions. I'd be chuffed if it works because I am rapt about the plant's progress and their potential genetics even if any resulting seeds will be regulars.

Bud Porn update

I took a few pics of the girls buds. They are still in the shade I didn't have the sun to light up the trichomes as I'd like, but all the same you can see some progress.

Hope all your gardens are going well and you're enjoying a great weekend! :hookah:

Unlike many here, I not only have to be stealthy for outsiders but I have to conduct myself with stealth within the house. My missus is at best tolerant but she makes a few comments every now and then to let me know what she thinks. Funny thing is, that my current growing cycle began when after she realised I was buying bud to vape, she then asked me why I didn't grow instead. Well, lovely, that's all I needed! And now she'll drop little hints, like 'they're pretty big now' or 'why to do you have to grow again you still have so much from last year' haha, geesus wept my love, I'm growing for a rainy day too!

Anyway, she's now popped out for some shopping, so I have kicked off a decarb and hopefully it completes and the faint smell has gone before she's back and I can have it all stored away again!

The jarred buds I am decarbing is the 'WG' from last year (White Widow x Gorgonzola 55/45 Sativa) which enhances nicely, but leaves you with a clear head to be high but still able to socialise, think and do things.

These buds were whole plant dried over 3 or 4 weeks before jarring and I only burped the jars twice, when the plants are biggish and are whole plant dried I find they are practically curing on the plant. Today after almost a year in the jar, they are still beautifully fragrant and sticky and gooey inside when cut, and feel really greasy when handled and zero mould. :ganjamon:
Did you find the taste and potency improved after a year?

Hey Tim, I can't say I particularly notice whether it's improved, my memory gets a bit 'hazy' from the wear n tear of doing my best to test this stuff:laugh:. Only that it is pleasing to find the jarred buds still in good condition, smelling lovely and still having a gooey/stickiness when cut.

A modest top dressing of the Godfather OG and Strawberry Cough

I have been watching closely on whether the plants need a top dressing or instead, to simply let them use up the nutrient reserves of their lower leaves. While I feel their colour is pretty good, better than previous grows of mine at this same stage. I felt today that I wanted to address the lightening in colour rather than being a purist and insisting I would run water only in living organic soil to the end.

I have not carried out any defoliation this grow, which is good I think because the plants have been drawing the nutrients from the lower leaves which are the ones I would have pruned off if I had done a defoliation, so making full use .

When I took an overhead pic of the Strawberry Cough it seemed quite apparent that her lower leaves were lightening a little more than I realised. The Godfather OG has also been drawing from her lower leaves. I am sure both would be fine left to flower to the end without assistance but their developing buds are look nice, and I decided I don't want any slow down of 'bud building' for the want of a little top dressing!

The Mango Sherbert seems fine, she is a darker shade of green compared to the other 2, and I did top dress her several weeks ago so she should be good.

On the Godfather OG and the Strawberry Cough I sprinkled 4 tablespoons (quarter of a cup) of Blood n Bone on each and watered it in. It is a modest amount and the chances are it'll be enough to give them a little help for the remaining few weeks of flowering. At this stage I don't want to dump a load on them.
:morenutes::morenutes:

It's now all about making buds while the sun shines, and taking pics just because they look good, because soon it'll all be over until Winter's finished and it's Spring time once more. Which I confess I am a bit gutted thinking my growing will soon be over for several months.

Well, that's the state of play in my garden today, thanks for dropping by!:passitleft:

What a beautiful grow Stunger. Hats off!
Thanks Stinker, it's a pleasure to share the views!
Another stunning summer grow Stunger! And I'm with you on the top dressing...why make them pull from the lowers when they can get it from the roots. Not to mention the number of immobile nutrients that have to come from the soil.

There are so many white pistils there I hope you weather holds up!
Well I waited, somewhat hoping there'd be enough in the soil alone, as it always sounds good reading of the folk doing LOS with water only thru the whole grow. But one has to bear in mind the quantity of LOS in the pot and how big the plants are. I'm a greedy bugger who can't help trying to get as many precious sticky colas as I can so in my case I'd say the plants have reached the upper limits of the soil for Nitrogen. And as you pointed out previously, when flowering the demand for Nitrogen is almost as high as during veg.

So to top dress at this point felt the right thing to do. In fact today I added another 4 tablespoons of Blood n Bone which together with yesterday's, amounts to half a cup of organic Blood n Bone. I am still having to balance my observations with the limitations of my experience (but hey, it is building slowly, next year I'll know about my mistakes from this year!). But having top dressed fine with half a cup on a plant last year which worked out nicely then, I thought I'd bring yesterday's top dress up to the same quantity.

One warning about having worms in your container soil, is that the birds like them! This morning I noticed that one had kicked up a lot of the mulch layer to get at the big fat worms underneath. I put a bit more bird netting over the mulch to hopefully discourage a return, it actually came back just as I was frowning, so I shooed it away to let it know it wasn't welcome back
An awesome balcony grow . The girls are filling out nicely. The strawberry has really come along nicely. Love the colour on the godfather. Well done
Thanks ZebraCat, that's some nice colas showing in your pic! Hopefully I'll have a few of the same to show in a few weeks time.

Today's view is bought to you from the side window!

Keep well everyone and cheers for dropping in! :hookah:

Lots of folks use spinning pinwheels to keep the birds away, but unfortunately they attract small children ;).
Yeah I'm trying my best to refrain from setting up a carnival atmosphere on my balcony just for that reason!

That's a beautiful sight from the side window, Stunger!
I'd be looking out the window all day long if I had a view like that !:bravo:

Thanks Carcass, I am pretty much looking out the window at them every chance I get. It'd be nice to have the company of some fellow posters and smoke up some test buds while looking out. At least the folk on 420 would appreciate them!

An early popcorn test and a budporn update

Yesterday I noticed a dead/dying budlet. It didn't appear to have had any insect damage and I think it was on a stem that had been inadvertently knocked by me, which I think I unwittingly snapped it's connection to the stem. After it had almost dried overnight I decided poke it into a vapcap and check it out under some heat, I got 1.5 cones out of it and then went outside to do some hedge trimming and general gardening. I reckon the Godfather still has 4 weeks to go so it is quite immature and this little popcorn bud didn't look look much, but I got a nice high from it. It made me wonder what would a more frosty bud have been like and upon harvest, will it turn out to be 'the hammer' as @StoneOtter found with his, I am certainly hoping so!

Godfather OG, an immature popcorn rubbish bud which still gave a decent high

Godfather OG Cola tops

Mango Sherbert

The Mango Sherbert has real tasty looking cola tops, while the Godfather OG is quite colourful. The Strawberry Cough is at least 2 weeks behind in her flowering and not at the same level as the other 2. Be well everyone! :hookah:
