Holy shitNERDY DAY.
Good evening Boys & Girls, hope everyone’s had a lovely day!
Been having a ‘ thinky ‘ day, what can I do to improve things without a lot of money. I started with the most obvious…. Water!
I took a quick look online to see what people said about using ‘ carbonated ‘ water to feed….
Am I late to the party? Does anybody else do this?
So, I read a little bit more.
It’s got my attention! I was already aware that you could buy various tablets etc to place in water to feed CO2 directly to the roots, but as anything…..it’s another expense that someone’s cashing in on.
Awesome….next stop…Tesco!
£0.50p for 2 Litres can’t be bad. So I bought 6 & off home I went.
Something really cool happened when I watered the plants, it obviously fizzed slightly, but when it settled, it left loads of little holes in the soil.
Still Thinkingif that’s happened all the way through the soil, honeycombed it so to speak. That’s going to help aerate it even more
If the roots can move more freely, while being supplied with more air & co2 (small amounts, but amounts none the less)
this should help accelerate growth…..surely?
Like I say, if this is already a well known method & I’m behind then my apologies, but if not, I’ll be interested to see if it makes a difference or not.
‘ Any comments on this would be great ‘
Here’s the babies - 6 days old ( since sprout )
Right, I still don’t have the luxury of a day/night controller, so I’ve gotta haul myself ( & I mean haul as I don’t have a ladder yet ) into the attic & sort things out!
Good evening & see you tomorrow

We have 4 seasons in the desert southwest. Hot,Hotter,Hottest and a sign that says welcome to hellAll of you are wimps.
Like my preacher used to say, "If you think it's hot now, you don't want to stand before the fiery gates of hell!"
He used that line in every sermon throughout the summer because the church of my childhood didn't have AC and it was about as hot as hell in there!
Guess I can't make fun of your posh plant water anymore, huh? I'm going to have to try seltzerHowdy do Amigo, how's it growing?.
What a great bit of research. I've never read that before..
This is similar situation to why I only use mineral water. It has all those nutrients pre loaded. But I might try the fizzy stuff to see what happens.
Our tap water in glorious Northumberland is toxic. It stings your eyes in the shower; the cat won't drink it and it stinks of strong bleach.. so I suppose anything would make a plant grow faster than good old Northumbrian tap water..
Nice one for posting this. I love new info..
Hope all's well man..
Catch you soon
You will just make fun of something else mateGuess I can't make fun of your posh plant water anymore, huh? I'm going to have to try seltzer
Why is the water there bad? I figured up that way near the wall and reavers you'd have magical unicorn spring water.
@Furcifer HaHa, better late than never dude! Cheers for turning uplate...but I'll get caught up!
Howdy do Amigo.END OF WEEK 1 VEG
(12 DAYS - 5 DAYS GERMINATING - 7 DAYS VEG)
It's been a stressful week! New equipment, new strains, hotter than the sun temps but not hotter than Arizona! Lol
But, I'm slightly more confident going into the 2nd week of veg.
Learning about the VPD has really; just caused more stress Every time I see the low humidity I'm just like wtf. Years ago I didn't even use a humidifier, was chuffed when I got it for the last grow...now I'm just like " F**King thing!! "
It's been a bit all over the place really with regards to journal entries, so I'm going to do a weekly round - up

THE LIGHT
Towards the end of the week, I noticed my daily electricity had almost doubled. It was clear that it was the light.
With my little electricity smart meter, I could see that instead of my usual 10 - 15 pence per hour, it had shot up to 20 - 25 pence per hour. Over 18 Hrs, that's quite a difference.
Using the light @ 100% all the time is obviously not the one...
So I had the light at 24" & 100%...I did some investigating. I found an independent light reviewer & tester who had done a full test on the @Mars Hydro FC 6500. The results stated that you can in fact have the light as low as 12" above the canopy while having the light at 50%.
At 24" which is recommended, the plants didn't like the low power but loved it at 100%. But after lowering the light to 12" & 60 %, they are doing just fine. (& my electric has gone down again lol)
- Lux meter Needed -
VPD
After looking into this VPD & giving it a go. I found that the temps weren't really the issue. Even though they were high, way high for recommended cannabis growth. If I was able to maintain a high RH, then I could still find a sweet spot. Maintaining a high RH in hot temps is hard, especially with an entry level humidifier.
With the heatwave I Just couldn't keep a constant environment.
- An AC unit & larger humidifier is needed -
CARBONATED WATER
Don't know whether this is going to make any difference but I'm going to stick with it. More research Is needed; playing around again, I decided to mix some CAL MAG into some carbonated water. I remember from school that Magnesium had a reaction when combusted so I thought...why not!
As soon as I dropped the cal mag into the water, it bubbled quite aggressively. No fizz, just bubbles.
I looked online & indeed, if you mix Magnesium ( MG ) with Carbon dioxide ( CO2 ) you get Magnesium Oxide ( MGO ).
Magnesium is a macro nutrient, whereas Magnesium Oxide is a ' Ruminant nutrient ' ( I'm still reading about this )
All of these things are used in Horticulture, just need to establish if it'll help us or not.
Here's the Pics...
Been a good week all in all, love all this new stuff I'm learning & just can't wait to start training these beauties.
Thanks to everyone for dropping in this week & hope everyone's had a great weekend!
Back tomorrow for start week 2 Veg!

Hey Buddy. Ah man, indulged a bit too heavily last night & I'm feelin a bit s**t todayHowdy do Amigo.
All's looking well in your camp; healthy looking ladies.
They look quite well developed for having the stretch earlier on.
The water:
Are you giving them all the fizzy pop or have you got one plant on normal water as a control?
Just you can see if there is any difference.
I would definitely invest in a lux meter. Does you phone support the Lux app? As I have heard they are pretty accurate..
Anyway. We seem to be at a similar stage in growth, so it's quite interesting to compare; even though they are different strains. They were basically born on the same day and will grow up together.
Hope your well mate. Speak soon
Happy belated birthday. Hangovers go away eventuallyLATE UPDATE

Happy Birthday mucker.Hey Buddy. Ah man, indulged a bit too heavily last night & I'm feelin a bit s**t today
Self inflicted so no sympathy required!!
Yes I'm glad they've stopped growing up now & filling out
These one's are having the fizzy pop yes but I have another 2 growing at a friend's now as well. I've set my first little tent up at his, so now I can try to get a ' perpetual ' grow growing so I'm harvesting more frequently. Those will be fed normal mineral water.
I was thinking of leaving one out in my Auto's & feed it mineral water, but given they are all different strain's the test wouldn't be accurate anyway. to do a proper test I'd have to use the same strains so I can properly record any differences. I would ideally love another small tent to just grow one in so I can try different training techniques etc, an experimental tent if you will.
Mate, I didn't even realise there was an app...stupid of me really. There's an app for literally everything these days!
Downloaded so I shall give it a bash later on my man & get back to ya!
Have a good day buddy & speak later.

Wow! They are exploding in growth..they are doing a lot better than mine and they popped on the same day..
DAILY MIMOSA CAKE MEASUREMENTS
Right, for some reason I can't turn off the underline so excuse me lol!
@Squiggle, I tried the lux meter app & on full power, the reading says 2235. That can't be right surely
I need to invest in areal one I think.
Anyway guy's, I'm signing off today. So I'll catch up with you all tomorrow, have a great evening.
