Hey guys!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend! Man some wild weather blew through here yesterday. We decided to take the dogs and head up into the mountains yesterday and as we were driving up there, we drove through some nasty weather. I mentioned that if headed south, the plants could be in trouble.
Well we got home last night somewhere near 10pm and when we pulled into the driveway, I couldn't see the Super Silver Haze standing
I kind of went into panic mode, but stayed relatively calm. I fought the urge to grab a flashlight and inspect the damage. I went around to all the plants and propped up the ones that got blown over or off the back of the truck or deck. This morning I went out and investigated and found quite a few broken branches but little to no permanent damage.
I did see that the DTF that we planted in the veggie garden, got its ass hammered big time. It was still recovering from the tropical storm that blew through 2 weeks ago and it got blown a different direction this time. Seems that the wind is trying to turn her into an "S" shape. I will try to grab some pics of her at some point today.
Harvest Update.
Got the final numbers in for the BCP we just harvested. She was grown in a 7 gallon pot, with no training, single cola, vegged for 78 days and flowered for 55 days. Final yield for her was 167 grams dried, so just under 6 zips. I have no doubt that those numbers would and could be much higher with a little bit of training. All in all I am very pleased with the outcome of that Black Cherry Punch from seed. I have cuts of her going in veg. This strain is easily one of the frostiest strains I have EVER grown. I don't generally enter Nug of the Month
contests but I might with this girl. Pure Cherry pastry smell off this girl.
Grams per gallon of soil - 23.8
Grams per day - 1.25
Those are my two preferred measurements for determining the feasibility of keeping a strain around. It allows me to determine the best yielding strains in my stable.....or in the case of multiple plants, find the plant that will produce the most for me. Generally I like to use a trained plant to determine these numbers but occasionally I let them grow naturally just to observe them. Those numbers for an untrained plant are very good.
I have had numerous people ask why I track the veg times and why not just track flower times. Well, if I HAVE to veg something for 120 days to get it big enough to flip and yield well then I need to factor that time into the equation as well.....not just flower times. Essentially, I could have a plant that vegged for 120 days and yielded 6 ounces in a 7 gallon pot, and I could have a 2nd plant of that same kind that was vegged for 60 days and yielded 4 ounces in a 5 gallon pot. If I don't track those two very important factors, I am not getting an accurate picture of my plants yields. Without that data, I might be inclined to keep the plant that yielded me 1 ounce more despite it taking twice as long and using 40% more soil. These are the most concise measurements I can track to see how I am doing. Time and resources....thats what I am monitoring with those metrics.
