Squiggle Is Testing The Sylstar GL4000a: Multi Strain Grow, In A Brand New Set Up!

Nice work getting a couple of jars of meds sorted :ganjamon:

Congratulations on the harvest and bringing an end to the tolerance break!
Enjoy :high-five:
Thanks mate.. a tolerance break is no good for anyone.. one hit and I'm paralysed.
Morning Squiggle, its good to see you here:snowboating: I must have missed something, I had no idea you were on a forced tolerance break. That's uncomfortable. I just grew and tried the WW regular for the first time. For me, is energetic and trippy with a cool texture.
Thanks mate, the forced break was due to empty jars. We won't touch anything from other people that isn't organic. So we did without for a while.. I think that's why it's heavy at the mo..
What does your white widow smell like? As this smells like weed and horse manure mixed together
Congrats on harvest mate at least you got some med now for you both even if bit strong for you it's something glad you doing well
Cheers man.. I believe it may be more that I have no tolerance to it, than heavy.
I've just had a friend of mine say he was in fits of giggles with it last night... that's not what we are experiencing.. I will just have to smoke as much as I can, to get used to it:laugh:
your a beast squiggs. Nice work on the chop the others must be cloooose
Hi mate. The others are on death's door.. very sickly indeed.. Will update later. Thanks for stopping by.. beast?
Hi buddy! I've had my head so far up my own arse I didn't know you'd had any bother or taken a break. Glad to see it got sorted mate.
Thanks mate. I over reacted to an angry member.. thanks for stopping by. I do hope your head is still not up your rear end
Nice work getting a couple of jars of meds sorted :ganjamon:
Thanks mate. It come just at the right time. Missus had an operation and she was in agony.. they were talking about giving her oramorph.. the white widow is dulling the pain right down..
How full are your jars now? I bet you've emptied a few

No, not really - I did take a pic which I'll post if I can find

That looks pretty healthy. I'm surprised, especially how small the pot was and how much she produced. Very fine roots indeed...

Yeah, surprises me too but there it is - did you see the pic before I chopped? A proper flopper
I used to do clone SOGs but it's actually better and quicker to do fems, top and flip early and only keep the four main colas You can fit 9 x 5L pots in a 80 x 80 cm space, two seeds per pot is 18 plants
Each one produces 1-2oz of pure bud porn
Only grow for myself now so my main aim is trying to grow specimen plants in a confined space with the minimum of fuss

Howdy do folk's.

Right, let's get to it..
The blue Berry and the sour diesel were showing slight signs of a deficiency. So I threw everything i had at them.. it started working, but after a week, they took a bad turn and now I know why.

WARNING
The following pictures may cause distress ..

I had been doing ph soil samples, from soil I was taking from the top 2inches and all seemed within the correct range. But they kept getting worse.. so, I decided to take a soil sample from the bottom of the pot, i had to carefully slide them out if their pots to do it and this is what i found..
DSC_0676.JPG

A pH of 9.5 at the bottom of the pot and the top soil was reading 7.
Whilst I had them out of the pots I decided to stick them into bigger pots with fresh medium. They were all ready stunted before the up pot anyway.. so I though I had nothing to lose.

The Pistils had started drying up before the up-pot
DSC_0685.JPG
they were receding and they were close to death I think, as they were not drinking anything. There were no signs of fresh growth at the flower head.
I persevered with them through. I turned the lights down a bit, hoping they would focus more on recovery than growth and it seems to have helped. I also just fed them water pH'd at 6 for a few intervals.
A week or so later and this is the same flower today
DSC_0686.JPG

They are starting to produce new growth again, albeit rather slowly.
I did have to do a massive leaf strip, as there were many dead leaves, as the photos show.
DSC_0695.JPG

Hopefully, this is the turning point and they continue to respond to a light feed.

I found out why the soil pH was miles out. Just before flipping them to flower, I had ran out of PH up and I substituted it with bicarbonate of soda.. I have used it before, with no ill effects.
But, the new all purpose organic feed I am using is very acidic, it takes the pH right down to 3.8.
So, I found myself using table spoons worth of bicarb . I was conscious of the amount of bicarb I was using and that is why I was doing surface soil tests; which showed satisfactory readings..

But it's obvious now, that the bicarb is unstable in solution and does not wash out with run off or degrade naturally and it must build up in the lower parts of the soil..
I tested this theory by using some of the soil out of the old pot and adding vinegar to it.. the soil started frothing up, showing there was a large quantity of bicarbonate of soda still in the soil..

So, the deficiencies were caused by lock out I believe. Due to a highly alkaline soil.
Lesson learned me thinks..

All advise or comments would be greatly appreciated.. has anyone else encountered this?

Thanks for reading folks

As always, I really do appreciate all the help, advice and support I receive..

See you all on your side

Squiggle

Oh! This is one of them before using bicarb. Its only since I started using it, that's when all the problems occurred.

Cool.. I can't remember if I've seen the before shot. I would have done, but I will pop over to your place and av a look.. I was thinking of doing something similar in the future, so prepare to get your brains picked  we are still looking for the right strain first though. Then once we get what we are looking for, I will do exactly that. What is your preferred smoke and why?

Thanks mate.. I was ready to stick them in the compost bin. I remember when I first joined and you told me you used to use cider vinegar as a pH down, but you found out it was not stable..
I believe I am at that stage you were..
I will be popping over to yourside tonight.. I have neglected my duties and fallen behind on your journals..

Hey Squig - you don't need vinegar, baking soda or any other shit, the simpler you keep it the less can go wrong
Coco, CaMg, A+B = job done
It's no surprise that people who add random stuff to coco run into problems - at no point do the instructions say 'For best results, add a handful of chicken shit, worm turds and fairy piss' so don't do it and no problems will arise

Hi folks

I return!!!
This is due to the overwhelming, multitude of messages for support and concern from you lot; members and staff alike. So I must thank you all! I apologise for throwing my toys out of the pram and running off in a huffy fit; I just couldn't take what I was getting.
I had a few issues at home that were getting me to boiling point and I had to walk away from all the extra heat.
I abhor anger and insolence, there's just no need here. This place is a site of tranquility; a peacefull space for the mind, a break from the chaotic world.. We are all sailing in the same ship and she's called passion.
A passion to learn , a passion to share, teach and connect.
Theres just no need to project negativity on to another soul..
Maybe I'm old fashioned; I shake hands with a firm grip, I smile and say "how do you do?" To everyone I meet!.. Anyway, that's just the way I am.
I haven't really had much to do with the Internet of things. I'm not on that two-faced book or twatter. Not even that insta groan thing. So being part of an electronic community is all new to me. Oh, apart from the poetry forum, but you can't even say "arse" in a conversation on there, with out getting struck by lightning from the MODS above.. It's like being back at school over there. We've got it easy here folks.. Anyway, I digress.

We all respect each other and we are all respected! Its pretty unique that; and I cherish it.

So, I will finish this with a massive thank you, for all for the kind messages of love, concern and support

Cheers folks

Yours sincerely
Squiggle

Ps. Give me a couple of days to catch up on all your growings on, and then I will do an update. Oh How things have changed!

Yeah, if some moron has a problem with me it's their problem, not mine
Never do anything you wouldn't be prepared to justify and you will never be ashamed and cannot be wronged

Now you have some space, you can do both squiggle. 18/6 lighting, bang out an auto while vegging a fem photo to a decent size, then when the auto finishes drop the lighting to 12/12 to flower the photo. All options open.
So exciting.
Is this possible? Sorry, newb question, I’ve got 3 autos in their 41st day since sprouting, I assume then I can start growing a photo alongside them? : )

Of course, why not?

Man, What the hell made u wanna use bakin soda.... doesnt that shit kill weeds...?. Anyway.... bra keep it simple! they look much nicer now you have cleaned alot of the yellow shit out fingers crossed!
Hi mate. That s#!t definitely kills weeds, my plants are wrecked:rofl: a lot of the old tomato growers I know use it, to bring up the pH when using liquid organic fertiliser..i only used it because I had ran out of PHup. Keep it simple? Simples boring:laugh: thanks for joining in mate

Howdy do growings.. I know I should get specific nutrients and eliminate all the guess work, but I like a challenge. Like at the minute, I'm nursing the sick plants back to full health, but I've also found the cause! (Me)
So it's all knowledge I have gained first hand. Luckily we don't use much product, so I can afford to muck up once or twice..
. oooooohhh!!!!! Where do I buy this fairy p!$$ taa for chipping in mate. Appreciate it

Hi mate, Thanks for those reassuring words, and I totally agree. I also appreciate the kind words of gratitude. Cheers man.. but if you have learned anything from me; Erase it from your mind, it is all wrong:laugh:
thanks again maytee:green_heart:
Is this possible? Sorry, newb question, I’ve got 3 autos in their 41st day since sprouting, I assume then I can start growing a photo alongside them? : )
There's no reason why not. Just veg it until the autos finish..
just done similar, apart from I had to put my auto on a 12/12 for 2 weeks as I needed to get the photos in flower ASAP, as they were getting to big for for my liking..
How long do you plan on vegging the photos for?

Is this possible? Sorry, newb question, I’ve got 3 autos in their 41st day since sprouting, I assume then I can start growing a photo alongside them? : )
If you want to you can. You're set up to do it because the autos will likely finish before it's time to flip the photo you put in there. If you're running the autos on 20/4 or 19/5 you may need to train the photo to keep her manageable.

You would not want it the other way around, where you had to flip a photo with autos still growing. A 12/12 light schedule results in a significant decline in yield for autos.
