UPDATE: Day 3

Hello everyone.

I have a few pictures to post but thats really just about all. Jill and Sabrina have me slightly concerned. On both of them, they look curled up and when I touched them, they felt crispy. I know new leaves are often wonky. Im just noting and watching, thats all. Kelly, on the other hand, is not crispy. Her leaves are just as supple as we might expect. *shrugs* I dont know. The soil is very moist. I havent added any, but I can still feel the moisture on my fingers when I touch it.

Anyway, here is where we are. (Please pardon the blurriness - They all came out that way)

My angels all together.

Sorenna
Whats your humidity like?

Its low..thats why I have the bags on there. I dont know the exact figure. I used all my batteries for that darn camera. Ive been taking the bags off when the lights are on and putting them back on before lights off.

Quick Q for yall.

I know how plants react when its too warm for them. How do they react when they are cold?

I suspect they shrivel and die. Like when winter comes to an annual.

If merely cool (60-65 F ?), growth will slow down for some indoor strains.

If it's only somewhat cold (50-55 F ?), it can add purple to your flowers.

Okay, thank you, Radogast.

High Sorenna,
How is your Saturday night going? What ya smoking on?

UPDATE: Day 4

My lil angels are looking a speck better today. They all seem to be just a tiny bit bigger/taller. I raised them closer to the lights so hopefully they wont stretch a whole bunch.

Here they are..

To reduce the dustance between seedling leaf nodes, I gently bend open the leaf pairs, from biggest to smallest.
I place a fingertip near the base of each leaf and gently open the leaves. I try to push them down the tiniest amount. Sometimes I see the leaves spread, sometimes I don't.

I do this every time I stop and say hello. I start when the seedlings are about a week old.

As the plant branch, I do this only to the top branch/branches. I let the lower branches sretch more between nodes so they reach closer to the canopy.

I think I learned this from CoOrganics or maybe Light Addict. It seems to work.

High Sorenna,
How is your Saturday night going? What ya smoking on?

Hi Stage. :) My Saturday evening is going well. Playing online games with the other half. Had our families Thanksgiving dinner today. All in all.. a pretty good day.

Im actually not smoking anything today. I loved my Strawberry Blue, but my lungs dont like her. lol She gave me a deep cough, so Im just not smoking for a while. Friday, Ill have some again. :)

Sorenna
That's understandable. Do you vape?
I find it to be a great way to give your lungs a break.:volcano-smiley:
I just finished a bit just now of sour d. Still savoring it as i type.

*smiles* Nice. I vape my nicotine but not my herbals. I dont have the proper device. I was looking at pens, but Im all thumbs. I have no idea which ones are good and which ones are bad. They are too expensive not to get it right the first try. Having said all that. I do have a vaporizer, Vapir One, that Ive had for several years.. but some stoner left the cord outside for weeks in the weather. Naturally, it doesnt work now. I always liked that machine. I think Ill just order replacement parts for it since I already know I like it.

I think I might have done a boo boo, before I ever even dropped the seeds in the soil.

Here is my concern: They dont seem to be growing much at all. I know they are slow at first, working on their roots and whatnot. I also notice the soil is still just as moist as it was when I wet the soil and dropped the seeds in to sprout the rest of the way. I was mistaken when I said I was using Pro Mix HP. I am instead using Pro Mix BX, which I went and read some more about and find that its supposed to retain water longer. Thats fine, but I dont think my baby girls like how moist they still are 7 days later.

Here is exactly what I did when I put the soil and beans in the pot. First, I had already germinated the seeds. 2 were barely cracked with just a tip of the lil white tap root showing in the crack, the 3rd one had a bit more of a tail, perhaps 1/4" long. I prepared my "pots", cutting up 3 2-liter bottles to about 5 inches in height, covered most of it with duct tape and put good sized holes in the bottom. Then I filled the pots up with the soil. I didnt press it in there, but I did wiggle the pot to make it even out and fall into the empty spaces. After that, I scooped water in the cup of my hand until the soil was totally saturated. Then I let them sit for about 4 hours to drain from my holes in the bottom. After the 4 hours, I made holes in the soil, with Hex wrench as it turns out. I put one seed in each pot, tap root up. I have not given them a drop of water since they were put in the tent.

The soil has kinda pulled away from the edges of the cup as well, which I expect when the soil starts to lose its moisture, but when I put my fingers over the surface of the soil, they come away with a lot of dirt specks on them and they feel moist.

Do I need to do anything? Like dry out that soil some and if so, how can I do that? Let me say that I havent done anything at all yet. And I wont if I dont need to. I will be very upset though if I lose them because the soil was too moist. I did that to poor Louise and I really dont want a repeat.

It is good to be concerned about over watering. As long as you WAIT until you need to add water, your seedlings will be fine. In that size pot, I would expect 15-20 days to dry out (the plants aren't drinking much yet.)

To avoid over-watering, I use one of those inexpensive soil 3-way meters that don't use batteries. Sometimes they are 2-way meters. They look like a pair of knitting needles with a needle guage on top. Usually less than $10 at most gardening centers - especially the big box centers like Lowe's and Home Depot. A local nursery or hardware store may or may not have them.

Whenever I am tempted to water, I stick the knitting needle probes into the pot. If they show anything in the moist range - I step away from the watering can.

You may have slowed your seedlings down 2-3 days, but as long as they start to dry within 2 more weeks they should be fine. They were even wetter when sprouting, remember?

RE: your edit message: I actually did that for a reason. I usually do it the other way, but Ive read numerous times that that might be wrong. So, I tried it this way. They came up just as quickly and oriented themselves properly in just over 24 hours.. all 3 of them. I thought if I was gonna try this and it was bunk, then all I wasted was 3 bag seeds. It seems to work just fine.

I havent been tempted to water them yet. The soil has not gotten to the point of dried on the surface even. Im just discovering there may be a learning curve with this new soil that Ive never used before. After I posted my concerns I went to my first journal just to see how they look in comparison for the same day. Thelma and Louise were only a little bit further along, the 2nd set of leaves was in and flattening out, so I think you might be right, I only set them back a few days. Now I know better than to get the soil so wet when I plant them. In regular dirt, I never had this issue.

Thank you for your response.

UPDATE: Day 6

My girls have decided to grow. :) Sabrina more than the others. Kelly the least of them all.

Radogast~ I did what you said with the leaves last night. I can already see a difference. Question: How big do the new little leaves need to be to do that leaf bending technique? Sabrina has hers in, standing straight up, but ultra tiny.

Sorry. I have no pictures today. Ill take some for tomorrows update for sure.

I can tell you that Sabrinas and Jills leaves are very broad. I dont think there is any doubt that I have some indica angels here. :)

Sweet dreams or great day to you.. whichever it is in your part of the globe.

UPDATE: Day 6

My girls have decided to grow. :)

Now thats what i wanted to hear :high-five:

With the leaf spreading, i did quite a lot of it in my last grow and i found it didnt matter on the size of the leaves you spread just more being careful not to damage anything, however, they are pretty damn resilient lol. for me i took it as the earlier i spread the new growth apart, the tighter the node spacings :thumb:

I agree with the feral apple consumer, as long as you aren't harming the young ladies it doesn't really matter what size they are.
When they spread their leaves apart, I take that as consent to be touched.

Good news on them deciding to grow :cheer:

Here are the promised pictures... :)
