Solo Grow Challenge 2014 - Preparation Thread

Yup seeds get planted on the first. So prepare germination time. Usually 3 days max to pop a bean.

Most of us will use clones. So we may as well cut out clones on the first. Then 2 weeks to root. Sound about right? What's your rooting times looking like Peyton? 7-10 days?

Yeah, 7 to 10 days. Give me the signal and I'll go cut one tonight! Might do 3 entries, one pc SB and HGK. My flowering clones seem to root as fast as the others. Can't wait to get this started!

There will be a new thread when it starts. And I'll pm all the contestants. Won't be a lot of us. But it gives us something to do on the side. Like I don't got enough to do as is. But I haven't grown in a solo cup in years. Curious what it will do under my 1000w hps

I've got some reg seeds I could partake with. I'll pop 4 & pick one girl to run with if I get more than one that is All I need now is to figure out how big these cups are, can I use an equivalent pot if I can't get cups?
18oz, 0.53L does that sound right? 1.12 US liquid pint

That sounds about right skunny. Conversion seems right, unless your using imperial or whatever that stuff is that's like yours but slightly different.

Cheers buddy I went off what it had in the converter on my phone so it must be right. It does seem like a very tiny cup though, are they like the ones used in hot drink vending machines? They are about 3 1/2" tall if I remember correctly

These are a little taller. They're the stereotypical American beer cup, especially for beer pong

I'm actually having trouble finding 16oz solos. 18oz are more common up here.

If you could give me the measurements that would be great, we probably have metric sized cups over here but I'll get the closest I can find & show pictures with a tape measure so you know I'm not cheating

It shouldn't be based on physical measurements but rather on volume. So a 16 oz cup is 473.2 mL or 1/2 Quart or 1 Pint. An 18 oz cup is slightly larger and harder to convert.

Once I finish my late morning coffee and joint lineup I'll go measure the 18oz cup.
Are plastic party cups not sold in the UK? They sell them up here in the grocerie stores with all the paper plates n shit.

Thats fine and I understand that but physical height of an object does not mean it will contain the same volume because of physical shape. 1 Imperial Ounce used where you are equals 28.4131 mL. 1 Ounce in my location is 29.5735 mL. Just over an Oz difference. But if all of the participants on this side of the pond use mL for this competition, challenge or whatever we are calling it it will make things easier. Just a suggestion lol. Take with a grain of salt and shot or five...

Hey Stumped and everyone else, I am interested in this grow too and would like to use up some seeds I have been sitting on for awhile. I just need to get those cups to be ready.
Im taking the seed part to be dry until October first not planting a sprouted seed then , am I right?

another thing was could you go 12/12 hours from start , if that was your only way possible?

Im Ok vegging until flip,just thinking bout my buddy who has a 12/12 from seed trail blazed on Who Im trying to get in on this too.
Here are my beans I want to use and who knows I may even be able to make some extra seeds adding some more value to this fun for me. I should get a male or 2 hopefully not 3 or 4 , Worst case some dont sprout I should start some extra bag seeds just in case

I havent run these strains before or many others but Im a cheap arse and will probably clone off them too just to get my moneys worth and hold onto a keeper strain

How the solo cup grow works is like this. Seed people pop there beans in water on the first. Day or 2 max for them to sprout, then into desired medium. all the time the lights are on 12/12. Then on the 14th. Clone people will plant there clones. Growth stages should be about the same is the idea.
Not sure if my timing is 100% correct, but well see and do more solo challenges.

I'm actually feeling bad for the way I handled the guy who wanted to do ebb n flow or whatever. I apologize if u still read this thread, and you're welcome to do whatever u want In a solo cup. Guess I lost track of what I was trying to do and let anyone in. There's no winners or losers.

Monster. Got busy today, lost track of the day. Devil got a point, but dude you're getting away too technical. 2 bloody oz's of medium ain't gonna make a sweet fuck of a difference lol
I'll measure anyways but all I can find here is 18oz cups so I'll say no higher then then 18 oz.
We don't use ounces in Canada either, but the solo brand cups are sold in Oz's. And we by booze in pints, quarts, 40s and 66ers.

Task will be finding a measuring tape haha
