SoilGirl's Indoor Organic Soil Medical Grow Journal - Mars II 1600 & Other LEDs

honestly soilgirl, i started thinking about our conversation a week or so back about the fluffy mold i had in my clone dome.. i dont think the mold is the same as you organic compost growers encourage in your gardens. i didnt bring this point up as we had moved on from the topic, but hopefully you got some pics of your issue so i can visually compare, will have to go through my hd to see if i got a pic of my issue. i do believe i just instantly through it outside when i noticed it though in rage.

you did say algae though which leads me to believe yours is a greenish slime? if i recall correct youve had those clones going for awhile now, if this issue happens again and you want to keep trying those clones, possibly move them to a new tray if you are able to after 2 weeks in a dome? that is a lot of humidity.

ive never had a algae issue mainly cause if it takes 2 weeks, you know my thought it gets tossed. but i do know many others that go 3-4 weeks without algae and i believe yours is on its second month right? well if anything i learned something today, if i need to keep a clone longer then a month, theyll be moved to a fresh clean tray.
:high-five:

Thanks for speaking up doc! Sounds like a good mite killer. Seems like all of us have our mite remedies. I'm excited to start trying some organic IPM with neem, kelp, and crustacean meals in the future, if you didn't listen to that organic IPM talk CO posted here the other day I highly recommend it!

I did listen to it but it was a bit over my head. I'm definitely looking forward to catching up with you all.

This is a great thread soilgirl. :thanks:

Some Veggy Veggers!

Just a look at 5 of my flat-top trained plants, looking great if I do say so myself :)

Red Cherry Berry

Notice how there's a node growing in the middle now, and all of the branches are level but starting to go upwards, and very vibrant!

PC1800032.JPG
PC180005.JPG

Dinafem Diesel

I also trained a node in toward the center. :) idk what the point of a circle is lol, when you can have some bud in the middle haha.

PC180008.JPG

OG Kush PR

Also, a node trained towards the middle :) and noticeably stronger growth.

PC180007.JPG

Heres the above two pictured together for a change (before I removed the spearmint and the herb planter):

PC180006.JPG

Corleone Kush #1

Filling in great huh? Not much vert, only about 1 inch vert per node, but its a start. (by the way, this ones under the Mars II)

PC180009.JPG

Black Bubba Kush Mini-Flux

Also filling in decently, but is rather weirdly shaped at the moment >.< the branches are solid and ready to snap at this point so there's little training going on with those. the new growth is going vertical. about 2 inches, but not as tight node spacing as I'd like to see.

PC180010.JPG

That's it for now. Thanks for checking in

Lol not at the moment aki - my guitar's input is broken!! :( :( :( and so is my amp. ugh. I hope to get those fixed once I stop spending all my money on growing >.< (not looking like any time soon)

but I still sing to them a lot :)

thanks for coming by! :passitleft:

Your ladies look lovely soilgirl. Love the traning actually. Even canopy and trimming the lowers was a game changer for me. Went from 4 to 7.5 ounces as soon as I started using those techniques. How is veg time with this method compared to your Flux plant?

Wowzer!, do your plants ever look perfect!
Impressive to say the least with the training and health.

When do you send them into flower?
What size containers are they in?

Sorry doc I don't completely understand which method you're talking about, so, here's a quick breakdown.

RCB, CK#1, and BBK all were trained similarly. While I may not call RCB a flux (it only has one main arm... stem... w/e) the other two sure look like fluxes. hmmm.... CK#1 was born Oct 8th. But it got stunted for a while :s might have helped gain the tight grouping you see. RCB also would have gone faster if I wasn't so strict on defol. BBK... started slow, because it was ... dead lol. Somehow I brought it back and from the moment It got past that and on it took off... probably too much, I had to really try to even it out, and I removed lots of limbs that I probably could have used.

Diesel and OG Kush PR both were trained pretty much using the same principles, make a nice even canopy but without branches coming out at the same level, training most out in a splayed circle but keeping one or two in the middle. This way probably cuts 2-3 weeks out of the flux equation.

In fact, the training I've done is very similar on all my plants. I've been really, really anal this grow I admit lol. And it probably isn't necessary. I have the space to let them stretch out and get tall, I just really want to see how much I can get out of an even canopy, and see if its worth it to me. I also want to learn to grow the most beautifully structured plants I can; what I'm doing is a very deliberate, hands-on approach to that haha.

Thank you for the compliments! :ciao:

Hmm, well the ones under the Mars II in the flower room are going to go into flower in 1-2 weeks. That's not ideal, but I will run out of buds if I don't get them going, and I should have plenty of plants vegging soon to make up for that mini-waste of training. I'd prefer to let those ones go longer in veg. and those plants are all in quite small containers. about 1 gallon on average I'd say at the moment. They'll be moving into 3.5-10 gal ones for flowering for sure, depending on whatever I have open and on hand haha.

Thank you for the kind words CO, honestly I'm so proud of these plants, I love them. They're the best I've vegged at least, hands down. They all smell so unique, I know they're going to stun in flower. And they're so healthy.... I know I'm not doing what you're doing, but I can tell this is the work of real no-bottles organics regardless. I want to do better still, but, sometimes its nice to just feel good about how I'm doing. :passitleft:  :volcano-smiley:

:lot-o-toke: haha it was late last night and I mindlessly answered you CO; actually, OG Kush PR is in a 3.5 gallon veg soil pot already. Diesel's I'd guess 3 gallons. Blue Blood has a 3 gallon as well. Everyone else though, are all in about 1 gallon, or less. Had to correct that. Sorry haha.

I'm just waiting for that flowering soil to finish cooking. I checked in and its definitely moldy already lol... I open it up once a day. It smells... damp. lol. The leaves seem to be starting to break down at least.

I I think all of those ones under the Mars II will end up in 4-7 gallon flower pots CO :) I'm sure that will make them plenty happy. I'm going to keep my 10 gallon fabric pots in reserve for LOS :) .... but I also don't want to leave these airpots just sitting around. Bugs worry me with airpots indoors though... hmm I guess we'll see how it all goes. ;)

A Clone/Veg/Soil Update!

Let's start with the clones. Here they are looking mostly alright, though those older CK#1 clones are pretty sad sights. They were the smallest clones I took.. I will take bigger, stronger clones from now on.

PC2000021.JPG

Here's the algae I was talking about.

PC2000031.JPG
PC2000051.JPG

I also found a little mold where I had removed some fans previously on the little topped CK#2 clone.... I just spray that stuff with neem oil if it shows up. I think I read Gfc nukes his cloners and trashes his clones if he sees even a little of it, :laughtwo: but I've grown out those plants with no problems every time lol. IMO, stay calm if you see it and deal with it where you see it, patience is a virtue, especially for growers! (though I understand that Gfc is on another scale of growing so he can afford to do things differently)

PC2000111.JPG

So I scrubbed out every inch of the tray with some lavender clorox haha, moved the plants into that after it was nice and rinsed, then I did the same for the lid and here they are, in a new squeaky clean dome. They've taken their sweet time but I think now they should turn around. :Namaste:

Now on to the Veg section of the update...

Blue Blood #2

Just letting you guys see how she's shaping up after the harsh topping. This one's for sure going to be a vegging mother for the foreseeable future, so, no grand plans for training, just keep it manageable.

And if you didn't notice down in the mulch she has a little hitchhiker, which I'm sure is a hermie Lucy seed from the charas rubbings that got left in my mulch. I'm surprised this is the first one we're seeing poke its head up. haha idk whether I'm going to move it into its own home, or cull it and let it be part of the mulch.

Ghost OG Flux

Doing great for the early part of the flux. I never thought getting a flux going could be so simple. I'm seriously loving the whole topped clone idea, that really cuts some veg time and training out of the equation!

Under the Magenta Sun (Mars II 1600!)

Just some pics I snapped of CK#1 and #2, BBK and Ghost OG together under that beastly light, to give a little perspective. :circle-of-love:

Now onto the Soil part :)

Here's a little mold I found in my cooking flowering soil, must be doing something right :) smells and feels like some rich stuff.

PC200009_1.JPG
PC2000101.JPG

And I was going to share how the cooking LOS soil is coming along.... I opened up the pots and everything, and it looked great, but I decided it needed a little water. What I've been doing for this cooking LOS soil is really 3 parts SS#4, 1 part FFOF, 2 parts perlite, 2 parts crunched up leaves, and all the additives (guanos, rock phosphate, yum yum mix, mykos, rock dust, egg shells, EWC, ancient forest, etc.), and theres a bunch of worms in there now haha.

Well I decided it needed water. So I put the top fabric pot back on, and I'm watering through it slowly lol. The water's probably all dripped in now... but we can save those soil pics for another time, its not going anywhere ;)

PC200011_1.JPG

Now - my two 18 gallon rubbermaid tubs got here today. Awesome. I'll probably build that worm bin today/tonight but I'll take pics and share the build tomorrow. Also, my new t5 got here! :yahoo: Going to get that up in the veg room asap. So excited for that, this is supposed to be an even stronger t5 system than the one I have, but at only 3/4 the price. I'll also show you guys how that ends up looking soon :) thanks for coming by! Happy holidays my 420 friends :circle-of-love: :volcano-smiley:

Wow! Fantastic update soilgirl.

I always bleach everything in between grows. Thank you for the info on your training too. I just love threads like this. I know how much time it takes to do an update like this.

:high-five::thanks::volcano-smiley::Namaste:

oh it doesn't take that long for me doc haha :) I've gotten pretty used to doing them quickly. But I'm glad you appreciate them! I try to keep this journal alive.

Hahaha aw thanks marz, maybe it does take me a while sometimes, but I have ADD so I probably don't notice. :laughtwo: I'm usually doing a million things at once in the grow rooms so I just take my camera with me and it doesn't feel like a task haha. I just pick it up every now and then between little daily plant duties.

But when it takes me a while, I can heat up the EQ Arizer and then time flies hahaha. Thanks for stopping by marz! :passitleft: :circle-of-love:

hi guys, this is what I'm doing for my worm bin :) just wanted to share the link for anyone wanting to get one going. They seriously create the best amendment you can possibly have for organic soil growing, so I highly recommend getting a worm bin going, you won't regret it once you do

Cheap and Easy Worm Bin!

Marzbadrock,
I follow your journal, we don't grow the same way, but your skills are obvious. I also love Montana, lol, maybe that has something to do with it.

Are you coming to CO this winter?, seem to remember you mentioning that..

Edit.... that is not what I'm doing yet >.< the freakin' containers came without lids, although it told explicitly that they were supposed to. I'm going to see what I can do about that... no worm bin for now. But doesn't that look like a nice and simple design that would work? Can't wait to do it. Ugh. I'm a bit upset about that.
