Sniff sniff sniff sniff: What y'all smoking on?

In 1975 the members of the British Progressive Rock group YES took the year off at the height of their popularity and focused attention on developing and producing solo albums.

Fish Out of Water was bassist Chris Squire’s resulting effort.

While not a smash hit sales wise, this record is considered to be the best of the 5 members solo projects and was critically acclaimed around the world.

This album shows Squire’s penchant for being able to develop excellent music using the bass guitar as the main instrument in a very melodic and rhythmic way. His vocals are very strong as can be heard throughout all of YES’ albums, although here he takes the lead instead of the backing.

He enlisted the help of former YES drummer Bill Bruford and the bass and drums interplay is pretty awesome throughout. Also helping out on keyboards was current YES member Patrick Moraz.

What makes the album special is his use of a small orchestra.
His arrangements are very interesting and sophisticated, yet not overbearing or pretentious. The orchestra was used just right, and really highlighted his musical ideas .

If you like excellent bass playing, tight jazzy drumming, uplifting, positive and thoughtful lyrics as well as a heavy dose of Progressive Rock, then this LP is highly recommended.

It’s been a favorite of mine for decades.

What’s also a favorite of mine is some of this Gorilla Glue #4 that I grew indoors.
Very stoney, pungent and aromatic.

Goes great with this music

"Would you rather have a Lexus or justice?
A dream or some substance?
A Beamer or necklace or freedom??
...D.P'z got that crazy shit!"

Nothing to do with weed, but a catchy song....for all those Seattle underground rap fans.

Ask someone to name a Rush song and they’ll most likely say “Tom Sawyer”.
It’s probably their most recognizable and most well known tune.

It happens to be the lead off track of tonight’s cannabis and musical adventure for me.

Moving Pictures to many fans of the band is the ultimate Rush album. Every song on it is a classic.
It really stands up well after all these decades.
It’s their most successful LP for good reason.

Besides Tom, the other track that still enjoys quite a bit of airplay is “Limelight”. Another excellent piece of work with lyrics describing the difficulties of dealing with fame.

“Red Barchetta” is a really fun futuristic rocker about taking an illegal car out for a Sunday drive.

“YYZ” is an incredible instrumental workout with the guitar solo in a middle eastern vibe that really makes it sound unique.

My personal favorite is the 11 minute epic “The Camera Eye”. It’s really got a heavy vibe and many time signature changes that are common in the groups music.

I’m gonna enjoy some Sweet Thai while enjoying this disc.
Sweet is the breeder. It’s not a true landrace strain, but is pretty reminiscent of the old school Thai we used to get. Very aromatic and hashy, with a touch of exotic spices. Quite uplifting and cerebral, it’s a perfect strain to enjoy this music with.

That's a great album and the bud looks perfect too :theband:

Don’t ya just love Saturday night?

Wow... the woman I love grows some fine cannabis!
She also makes really good hash by hand.

Tonight we’re enjoying some of her outdoor grown Galaxy.
It’s a 70% Indica dominant strain that’s a cross of Afghani & Northern Lights.
It’s skunky, yet sweet and spicy. Very much an Indica body stone, with a touch of a sativa energetic high. This bud is still in the curing stage, and will only get tastier and smother with a little more time.

Tonight’s musical indulgence is the really good, but sometimes overlooked YES album Drama.

It was released in the summer of ‘80, and was the first LP to feature another lead singer besides Jon Anderson, who, along with keyboardist Rick Wakeman had left the band the year earlier.

So Anderson & Wakeman were replaced by, of all people Trevor Horn & Geoff Downey’s of the
Buggles

The Buggles? Yep.. the duo that had a hit with “Video Killed the Radio Star” we’re now in one of the worlds finest and most popular Progressive Rock bands.

You know what? It worked! The album has most of the elements that made the band successful in the first place, but the sound and songs structures are more heavy and the lyrics are less esoteric and mystical and more straight forward.

“Machine Messiah”, “Into the Lens”, “Does it Really Happen?” and the epic “Tempus Fugit” are excellent tracks and really shows the band heading in a new, heavier direction. Great album. Highly recommended.

The Galaxy and hash make the listening experience so much nicer.

You grow some fine weed & press great hash Wildflower!

Sometimes you just gotta listen to a classic

This is the 2017 remixed 50th anniversary edition.

Giles Martin, son of Beatles producer George, when back to the original 4 track tapes (that’s right, 4 track) and completely re-mixed the album.

Why mess with a classic recording? Why alter an album that has stood the test of time?

Because this mix is better.

The instruments are clearer and cleaner. The drums are more crisp and pronounced. The bass is deeper and more present. The vocals have more presence. It sounds very new.

The mix itself has not been radically altered. The songs still sound like they always have, just fresher and clearer. This is what the album should have sounded like in ‘67, but the technology did not exist then. When analog magnetic tape is bounced down from one recording machine to another, fidelity is compromised and slightly lost. That was the best they could do in the ‘60’s with the equipment they had back then.

When the original tapes were transferred to digital, a mix could be made that would not suffer from a loss of fidelity. This is why this new version sounds so good.

You know what else sounds good?

Smoking some homegrown cannabis!

Tonight I’m enjoying some fine Tutankhamen lovingly grown by my beloved Wildflower.
She did a fine job on her last outdoor grow. Thanks babe!

About to have some Kraken spiced rum and then step outside for a bong's worth of what I call Tardis Lite. It is from my grow last year when I found a couple seeds in a bag of Tardis I bought December 2018.

I call it Tardis Lite, because since it was from opportunity seeds, that means the flower that produced them got pollinated by who knows what, so it is only half Tardis.

Wow... someone turned the lights out when they left this thread!
It’s been nearly a month since anyone posted here... oh well.. I dig this thread!

Tonight I’m enjoying some aromatic Tutankhamen my beloved Wildflower grew last summer and fall out in her garden.
It’s very tasty and stoney with a nice earthy flavor on the exhale and easy on the lungs (I’ve had the flu)

I’m also gonna get into the fine Jethro Tull disc Stand Up
It’s a really good LP. It’s got the classic songs “New Day Yesterday” “Nothing is Easy” and the amazing
Flute and bass guitar oriented, classically tinged instrumental “Bouree”.

Enjoy your Friday evening everyone!
