Shadowmoses 1st Grow - Northern Lights - Short Rider - Autoflower - LED - Soil - 2015

Re: Shadowmoses 1st Grow - Northern Lights - Short Rider - Autoflower - LED - Soil -

Looking good Shadowmoses, I tend to tuck my fan leaves or do a light defol to open up the bud sites...oh & subbed :goodjob:

Yeah, I have been tucking quite a bit but those jumbo leaves are really getting out of control haha. I will probably do a light defol on some of the bigger leaves that are shading the undergrowth. Thanks for your input shaun and welcome, glad to have you here! :welcome:

Day 27 Short Rider - Day 25 Northern Lights
I am so happy with my girls right now. Short Rider is out of control and I love it. She just keeps growing more and more. They all look great though. Buds are starting to form woot woot!

I haven't done a defol or anything yet. I am curious when is the best time to do that. I really don't want to stunt growth. How much would you all take off of these girls?

Re: Shadowmoses 1st Grow - Northern Lights - Short Rider - Autoflower - LED - Soil -

Everyday they are bigger and prettier. I defoliated my THC Bomb auto for 2 reasons, 1) Because it was very humid and the plethora of leaves were making me nervous about mold when I find moisture on several leaves. 2) Because multiple bud sites below were not getting much light. After some defoliation and a bit of LST, her canopy is fairly even and all but one of her budsites have light.

I dont know all reasons for defoliating, and usually I wouldnt have done it on my auto, but I felt it was necessary with the conditions of their tent at the time. I dont regret it.

Thanks Sorenna. Yeah I definitely would if I was having a humidity problem. Your choice seems easy with the buildup of moisture on the leaves. Not all of my bud sites are getting light, so I am thinking of going ahead with it.

Will this be a problem now that they are in flower?

Plants look great! Nice dark green color. Must be the LEDs?

What are you using for exhaust?

:thumb:

Hi Scar,

Yeah, the older leaves are so, so green. I am using a 6" inline exhaust. It is a HyperFan 315 cfm. Only pulls 35 watts and is variable speed. The unit comes with a fan controller. Figured it would allow me to get a slightly bigger tent in the future :) .

Re: Shadowmoses 1st Grow - Northern Lights - Short Rider - Autoflower - LED - Soil -

It's okay, hopefully someone who knows will chime in.

I am not a heavy defoliator by nature. But, you can go as heavy or light as you want.

In general a defoliation about a week before flip to 12/12, and then another around 3 to 4 weeks and potentially another one around 45 days.

Some people do a massive defoliation and remove almost every fan leaf. Some just do a light defoliation removing fan leaves that block light.

This will include some sort of under canopy defoliation to remove popcorn that doesn't get light making it basically a sucker taking energy away from the top-side canopy.

I watched a video one time where this guy defoliated heavy multiple times and he ended up with a lower yield. It does stunt growth some.

I prefer just removing fan leaves that block light.

Experience will determine what you like and prefer. :peace:

+Rep! Thanks Scar. I am thinking that I will not do a defol with these autos. I might remove one or two leaves further into flower if it is blocking my precious :) .

In general the defoliation I was talking about is for regular photo period plants and NOT for autos. For AUTO's I would keep defoliation on the light side.

Also, does anyone know if it is wise to do any LSTing once you start flowering with autos? Was thinking about doing a light LST on the 2 that I have not done.

This guy grows Auto's and can probably give you a more definite answer on defoliating Auto's and training of Auto's.

LA's Auto Training!

Good Luck!

Day 33 Short Rider - Day 31 Northern Lights
Sorry no update in 4 days, I was away for the weekend. It was incredible coming home and seeing how much they have progressed. Gave the girls a full blast of nutes last night after I got home. They were so thirsty, so I mixed up something special for them.

I did end up ordering a new light, a P450 from PlatinumLED. It will take 10 or so days to arrive and I am super excited! Can't wait to see how the girls react to the Platinum :) .

Well here are some pics of all the girls.

Re: Shadowmoses 1st Grow - Northern Lights - Short Rider - Autoflower - LED - Soil -

I have a question for you all.

I am going photo for my next grow. I have two strains Wonder Woman and soon AK48, both from Nirvana.

Should I grow one of each in the tent or just grow one of them? As you can see there isn't a whole lot of space in my tent. I could SCROG the hell out of one (or LST) and probably fill up the whole tent. On the other foot it would be nice to grow two strains but I would have less space.

I will also be using my P450 PlatinumLED light when it comes in instead of the 2 300w Galaxy Hydros.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Shadowmoses 1st Grow - Northern Lights - Short Rider - Autoflower - LED - Soil -

both if you want both. i say. if you got room that is.
take clones from both and you have more. one at time then if something happens u no got none. or some say if biscuit doesnt bounce back you----- go hungry--------. lmao.

right now im making MJ Tea.

You could definitely grow two (one of each). Just take into account how each strain may grow. You want to keep the canopy fairly equal. Understanding that you may have some issues with one stretching and may need some more aggressive training like HST.

Try and get an idea/research if either strain is a stretcher. If one gets out of control in VEG you may need HST or even pruning to keep them even. And then LST and HST training in flower. In general if you can keep the canopy even after 3 weeks of flower with training, you should be pretty good. Some strains will stretch more in flower but in general the majority of stretch is done by week 3 to 4 of flower. I have no problem busting a branch over 90 degrees at 3 weeks of flower.

At first you may feel bad and even think you killed the branch. But as long as it is still attached it will recover.

I would take 2 clones of each plant before you flip to 12/12. Make sure one survives of each plant so you can continue the strain. You can take clones up to 21 days in flower. A 21 day old 12/12 clone will grow a lot different than a clone taken in VEG cycle.

Now Grasshopper, you must leave and propagate the world.

Lights - 2 x 300 Watt GalaxyHydro. (I hope they do well, any input would be welcome here.)

So why did you get another LED? Not happy with the GalaxyHydro? Or are you planning on Veg'ing with one of them?
