Second Outdoor Desert Autoflower In Arizona

So we had major storm last night. 1.2 inches rain (yay!) and 70 mph wind gusts (not yay). 2 branches broke off the DP. TD is fine. I don’t think I’ll tie down next year if I grow thru the summer again due to the monsoon winds!

And I thought I’d add this pic to show what happens if plants aren’t surrounded with wire cages. Top circled stem was an eggplant just like the one in the cage.

That's a lot of rain = to 40% of yearly rainfall in Yuma

It is a lot of rain! I don’t know what the official tally was but that was my rain gauge out here. Chances of rain next couple days as well, hope some comes your way!!

Long overdue update
We’ve been having a lot of rain here, yay! Very much needed! I acquired a few of those IBC totes (food grade) and with my very basic system of 55 gallon drums under my flat roof’s scuppers and a sump pump I was able to collect over 900 gallons in 2 days. My plants will be so much happier with this rain water!

Durban poison and tangerine dream both doing well and no more wind damage. I’m just pretty sure that my durban may be a male. And while a tangerine and durban cross would be pretty cool, I don’t have any way to isolate a male to just pollinate a few branches, so I think it will have to go if it is. :( I was really surprised to see them (at least the TD) start flowering already as it’s only the end of July.

OK so those pictures were from Sunday. I just looked again and I’m seeing white hairs now so maybe that was a false alarm? What do you guys think? These pics are from just now.

It looks like a lady in the new pics. Let’s hope that was a false alarm. Keep an eye on her just to be sure.
And :woohoo: on the rain.

Thanks! Yeah, on Sunday I was convinced there were balls, lol, and it looked totally different from the TD. It’s looking better now but I’ll still keep a close eye on it!

Sunday update:
Forecast today 100° F. Current temp 96°F, humidity is at 44%. Dewpoint for Mdlroad is 70.5° F.

All my plants and trees are loving the lower temps, higher humidity and recent rains. I do have some yellowing fan leaves on the girls due to my negligence in fertilizing on time. I did end up switching both to the Simply Professional cannabis formula I received as samples, due to ease-of-use. No mixing multiple liquids together, makes my morning routine much easier. Since they’re starting to flower I’m making the gradual switch over to the flowering nutes, using 70% veg and 30% bloom today.

The DP is doing fine even though it lost almost half it’s branches, could you imagine how big it would be if it hadn’t.

Since I didn’t do any LST on the TD, I decided to do some branch spreading today, using fresh twigs cut from my thornless mesquites. I have used this method before on my fruit trees with success. I’ll just have to keep an eye on the branches to make sure there’s no damage where the sticks are sitting.

Hello again! Wow it’s been a long time since I posted. I just returned last night from a 2 week visit to my hometown in Michigan, so of course one of the first things I did was run out and check on my babies. Very nerve wracking leaving my husband in charge of the plants, but he did good! The TD is looking marvelous! I’ll have to do a proper update later but here is a sneak peek.

Thanks! I had so much fun in MI I didn’t want to leave.

Both plants look pretty good in the daylight. A few yellowing leaves, might be from only getting fertilizer once a week. Or could be normal? They will be back on an every other day schedule now that I’m back so we’ll see how they do. The Tangerine Dream buds are looking good! Getting frosty, quite a difference from 2 weeks ago.

The Durban Poison didn’t break any more branches while I was gone. I tried my best to support it in case we got more high winds. The buds look a little weird, but maybe that’s normal for that strain? It was a little behind the TD in blooming so I’m curious how they’ll be in a couple weeks.

Welcome back and congrats on being married to someone who can keep your plants alive while you're having a grand old time in the upper midwest! TD looks terrific with all that sugar, and the DP looks kinda leafy for now but it seems like early days of flower still.

DP also looks a bit underfed generally, but I'm sure now that you're back that will turn around right quick!

Hello again! Back with a quick update but bad news unfortunately. I’m still having trouble with the Durban. Even after being back on the fertilizer schedule it continues to lose fan leaves. They yellow, then turn brown and are not easy to remove. They do not fall right off like the fans that yellow on the TD, they are still firmly attached to the stem. Also I’ve had two branches suddenly wilt and then die. There is also a browning if the main stem on one side. I’ve done research online and here and am afraid of the dreaded fusarium wilt! Here is the second branch to do this. I dissected the branch after I cut it and saw no sign of borers.

TD is still looking ok. Still losing a few fan leaves but they pull off easily.

Looks like fusarium to me, since it looks like the wilted branches are starting to get loose at the connection to the main trunk, which is another sign. I lost a couple of plants to fusarium back when I was in soil but haven't had any since I switched to soilless (ProMix HP).

What do the trichomes look like on the good buds? I'd harvest the good branches and burn the rest of the plant. Don't use it for compost or reuse the soil.

Not what I wanted confirmed but thanks so much Shed. I’m just devastated! Was really looking forward to the Durban Poison.

I’m wondering if it could’ve came from the straw I used to mulch the top or the Promix Moisture I had mixed in (that had woody pieces in it so maybe wasn’t totally soilless). Or just overwatering in an attempt to keep them alive thru the heat?

Unfortunately they’re not even close to ready. They have some white pistols but not much for tricomes yet. Is there any harm to seeing if I can get what’s left to mature a little more? Anything that can slow it down like an antifungal? Should I move it to a separate area? The fabric pots are sitting directly on my garden bed (which I’ve never had any prior problems with).

I think the rest of the plant will succumb over the next week or two at most, so I would take it now while there's something to be harvested. The only thing I know that you might try is to soak the roots with hydrogen peroxide. I'd say no weaker than 3% cut 50/50 with water.

Hard to know where it came from though. Just make sure to clean all your tools with bleach or iso before using them on other plants in your garden.
