Scoooter's Green Crack DWC LED First Grow - 2017

Thanks! I'm practicing being calm and steady and not freaking out when things change. I'm sure I am not the first noob to get nervous LOL. Small adjustments to the basics. Try and read the plants which seems as much experience and art form as anything.
They are looking nice dude don't be nervous. You're doing a great job. Mine got seriously abused (like seriously, ripped out of soil at 4 inches tall and 12 days old, then blasted soil off roots with the shower and stuck it directly into hydroton with no support) and I only feed it half strength nutes because I'm cheap and want the bottle to last longer. Its doing great, you'd be amazed at what they seem to be able to handle.

One thing I've learned reading and growing: there are infinite methods. You're participating in a tradition spanning millennia, and a little civil disobedience. Relax, have fun.

Day 12
Settled with light height at 30" for now. PH was WAY better today. 6.0 I'd like it a bit lower but decided not to mess with it. Temps, RH are good in room. Roots are starting to shoot through all over now so the the two runts should pep up soon. Still using ice bottles every 12 hours to cool water and it's working great.

Couple pics :)

Day 13
Everyone has perked up! Lots of root growth happening. Hard to believe it can happen in 24 hours. PH, PPM good. Things seem to be purring along.
Good enough spacing on 2 of them for Top. Will wait until Sunday before lights out and hopefully can do all 4. :thumb: I know there's plenty of debate on waiting for full 4th 5th or 6th set of leaves before topping so I am subscribing to the earlier topping view if the plants are healthy. Comments welcome though!

So.. the other thing I was worried about were the amount of bubbles in each pot. I had backflow preventers (thought I needed them for some reason) on the lines and did a test without one. At LEAST 30% more bubbles without it. Chopped those things right out of there!

Peace!

Here's my occasional update on my auto's.
Day 14 for 4 of them. I had enough room to top 2 of them so that's what I did! Everything I've read says to top as soon as you can around day 14-20 or you stunt them. Sterilized my little clippers and performed some righteous surgery lol.

Hmm, I've never noticed any stunting from topping, ime everything left on the plant grows faster when you chop something off or even just smash a stem.
I used to steralize scissors, now they stay gunked up...

Day 15

Well they all got topped before lights out this morning. I am running 20/4 for the lights. Couple hours after lights on they look fine. I also rotated the location of the plants in the tent if their positions look different to you. Doing a water change tomorrow and will get pics of roots. Got in a proper fan for my carbon filter. Changed it up to go on when the temps hit 80F along with an intake fan. Seems to be cycling fine. Not worried about smell yet. Plus I have an exhale bag in the tent so this gives time for the CO2 to build up. It might be a useless item but figured it couldn't hurt.

That's about it for tonight. :thanks:

Day 16
Hey all! Did my water change and switched nutes to my 3rd week schedule. Week 2 PPM was 375 Week 3 is 585 (GH Trio Plus Hydroguard). PH5.8. Will watch for nute burn. All roots are looking nice and white and are growing fast now. (Little hard to tell in the pics below but they are). They don't seem to have missed a beat from topping. :) Tent Sits steady at 79.5F lights on and 71F lights off. RH between 55-60%. I'm still running a very small humidifier during lights on. All 3 fans running on low 24/7 so they move gently. Hopefully by week end I will start LST'ing them out!

Peace

The white bucket is just a working bucket when I change water or pull the plant.

I am subbed up for your grow, I just finished my grow in a DIY RDWC, with CKS seeds and still have one in coco that will get the axe soon,

A scrog net will make it almost impossible to change out you buckets once they get big, individual nets attached to your net pots would make it much easier, that way you could suspend it up with ratchets as you drained and refilled the buckets.

I had a reservoir so changing the water was a breeze, but working with the plants under a scrog is a pain in the ass unless you have access to them all the way around.

Wishing you the best!
OTM

You say you are a rookie but carry yourself as a veteran cultivator. Your extensive research shows in your journal inputs. These ladies have captured my attention as well. Shall self medicate and ride along Scoooter. Great job so far. Keep it up!

Thanks for subbing in OTM. :thumb:

Yeah I've been going back and forth on the 1 screen vs 4. I have looked at a bunch of single designs and still can't decide. I have full access on 3 sides so pumping water in/out won't be hard but I would like to clean the buckets each week. I have a little time to figure it out. lol

Next grow = Reservoir!

If you use a product called Flying Skull's Z7 with your bucket changes, there is no need to clean them out between changes unless you notice a problem, after I was finished with my RDWC harvest, there was no build-up or signs of problems in my buckets or res, keeping your bucket temps under 70 degrees it the biggest challenge especially in the summer months, with Z7, you can allow that to rise a few degrees (75 ish) and still keep root rot away.

On my next RDWC grow I plan on attaching a scrog net that is 24" x 24" to each net pot about 12" above, that way I could simply lift it off with the plant and set it into another bucket if I need to work on anything.

I will have some design updates on my journal when I get that far, its still in the planning stages!:laughtwo:

Thanks OTM. I'll check out the Z7. Even in individual pots/nets there may come a time that it's too difficult to raise them high enough. I am using hydroguard and that seems to be working well. I'll check to see if they are compatible. .

They are most compatible. They are both present in my res'. First grow straight Hydroguard, all came out great. Second grow added the Z7. The roots have never looked better. My res temps are always mid 70's.
