Schnookie's First Grow In 30 Years: Mixed Strains, Mixed Schedule, Mixed Nutrients

That's a nifty way to accelerate the transition... I am going to have to try that sometime. Good luck with the mites.

I made another run at the mites today with the SNS right before lights out...It's odd that only the Skunk has the mites and the other two seem to be immune from the infestation. I also sprayed the soil and underneath the screen with Azamax. I just want to get those guy GONE.

The plants I currently have in flower ( Green Crack x Amnesia , Jack Herer, San Fernando Valley ) I gave well over 48 hours but under 60 hours of dark prior to flip. I did notice pistols much faster then my Widow and bagseed run where I didn't apply a prolonged dark period prior to flipping. I had first pistols showing 24 hours after coming out of the dark. I feel it is a faster method and will be applying it to my current grow. 4 plants will get the dark. 4 others wont.

I will be very curious to see the results. I have tried 24 hours of darkness and found that it takes about a day and a half off of the transition... to go longer and have an even more profound effect makes perfect sense. The plant suddenly sees that the world is ending and the sun has gone out. Immediately it goes to flower, trying as hard as it can to accomplish its prime directive, continuation of the species.

Yea it does make sense. Ill get back to you in a month. I'm testing it when I flip my seedlings. Im curious to know if darkness before flip and before harvest are a real thing. So far before flip seems to be true.

Yea, the GSC took another 24 hours after dark, but the skunk and WW were already appearing to start blooming when I turned the light on. They are pretty amazing looking now... update coming soon

Ok, it's now 11/14 (by the pictures) but I forgot a few updates.

After flowering started I changed the water schedule to keep the medium moister longer so I am feeding about 2-2.5 g of nute solution every other day (total, split between the 3 plants) and then 2 days off. Water 1/2 and then top with full nutes. Nutes have varied concentration as I've used just been kinda winging it. I still have the palm fertilizer with epson salts mix and molasses plus some 'nanner juice and I sprinkled a few grains of beastie blooms (0 50 30) just to put a little more oomph in there. I stopped feeding extra separate N (fish emulsion) on 11/11 and tomorrow will wean onto Mega Crop!! (that sounds like a monster Godzilla would fight!)

Next update will be day after watering 1/2 strength MegaCrop.

Starting to thicken up, they'll need some trimming up soon to let more light down the stalks:

And here's GSC starting to pick up some sticky too

Ok, two more days of updates coming to give you some pretty pics of all the buds...

11/16 Skunk under HPS (on the far right). 3 nice GSC buds in the middle/left and WW top left

Back 4 tall colas are WW and GSC in the foregound. The buds in the middle of the tent here are getting a share of HPS and MH light at the same time with overlap from each...and they seem to like it!

GSC babygirl starting to really thicken up
IMAG1362.jpg

And here's a peek under her skirt. ;) They have all been doing most of the cleanup themselves with the darkened leaves under the canopy yellowing and falling off on their own. I did some small trimming of a few fans up top to let more light in and trimmed off most of the lower buds that would've been larf. Skunk is showing her thin sativa leaves and allowing much more light through. I think the mites may have slowed her fan leaf production (or the miticide??) but she has the biggest, thickest buds so far... Dried some lower tiny bud tips in the toaster at low temp for a little while and they burn nice in my bubbler...good buzz but short lived.

Ok we're catching to up real-time right now! Pics from the last two days.

I am going to be away early next month for 5 days before harvest comes and am trying to train the girls to be without new water for that long. In that vein, I fed about 6Gal (1.5G/2G/2.5G) between the 3 last week every other day, skipped friday and gave them 3.5g total shared with full strength bloom MegaCrop. I was hoping to get more in there, but I still got about a quart of runoff so they got saturated. I then finished the next morning with another .5Gal between them which soaked in with just a little runoff. Temps have been good her with winter coming so the tent has been around 77-79 most of the light period and down to 69-70 at darkness. Humidity is super low at 30-40% and going up at most to 50 overnight. The plan for the away period is to load up and saturate 3 days in a row instead of 2 to maximize water uptake and allow a full water table before I leave. Hope it'll work...this is a stealth grow and y'all are the only ones that know about it. ;) ;) ;)

I put up some bamboo stakes in Skunk as she has been floppy her whole time. Now the buds are a few inches closer to the light and it opens the canopy to the lower parts of their stalks too. 11/18

I didn't take any pics today - they looked mostly like yesterday so what's the point? :nomo:

Anyway, I've been thinking about my decision to wait 5+ days to water in between this go around in an attempt to trick the plants into "learning" how to store more water. I'm gonna have to do this in a few weeks while I'm gone, and was thinking it may work, but now I'm questioning it. They STILL will have that period while I'm gone, but is there any point in trying to repeat it this week? Will they "learn" how to store water after this week so in 4 weeks they'll remember and be happy?

I'm doing it now to train. I wasn't necessarily going to do it again for training, but I am going away for 5 days and no one will be taking care of them. If that trip is the "schock" you are referring to, I will water them today instead of shocking them...

Ok, no pics again today, but @Emilya convinced me to give the girls some water and food. Mixed it up a little with the homemade calmag, some DynaGro Grow (to empty the container) @ 1/2 strength, plus 1/10 strength beastie bloom for extra P&K. Just 1.5 G today, and probably gonna repeat tomorrow and have a few days off afterwards.

So gave the girls the 1/2 gallon remainder of nutes yesterday and letting them soak it in today...will give more tomorrow, maybe 2G total. Here's some pics. We're at 27 days after lights back on post flip (60hours dark) and therefore almost 4 weeks into bloom.

A couple of weeks ago (should've recorded the date) I switched the lights left and right and never noticed how pronounced the height difference is left to right. Could be genetics too, or the mites slowing growth, but I might decide to swap the lights back again soon...left side is about 3-6 inches taller in general, although the longest colas are still in the middle (white widow)
IMAG1375.jpg

and WW is very sticky. smells a lot like hops...lots of terpenes
IMAG1378.jpg

Skunk may be short, but she's stout and sticky too

GSC truckin' along...I've known since she caught up in growth after being the runt for so long that she was gonna produce the most...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING Y'ALL!!

So today we're at 5 weeks post light flip (off 60 hours), or 32 days in flower. Here's some pics while the turkey cooks!

They got fed yesterday and the day before with 6g/G MegaCrop...a total of a gallon to each girl

White widow getting thicker now!

GSC still fattening up too
IMAG1382.jpg

Skunk#1 doing her thing...I think she'll be earlier than the others...starting to get brown pistils already

And here's the whole gang together
IMAG1384.jpg

You can always gauge how well you are doing with the white widow in the room... she is always a hungry girl and can take more nutes than most any other plant, and look at what she is doing for you in response to the aggressive feeding! I predict heavy snow with a good possibility of drifting to occur in those who can not handle her bounty.
:goodjob:
