Things are the same in most sports. The leagues try to prevent the po po from getting involved. Most players will not lay charges anyhow, but I have seen the police step in(NHL) and lay charges if it was violent enough.

That seemed pretty egregious. And there are usually po po's standing next to the coaches (in case someone tries to hit them with a helmet I guess), but they're just arm candy!
