Sauga's First WW Indoor Grow, LED Style

Hey, Brother! Sorry to hear about those Hemp Mites. They are VERY tough to get rid of and can wreck havoc on a crop, as I'm sure you've read in your research.

@Norcaliwood is battling with them right now, so you may want to check out his thread. I just posted this to try to help:

Our Ongoing Grows

Maybe it will help you, too? :goodluck:

I'll have a read over there to see what he came up with. My infestation appears to be around 1-2 mites per leaf I pull off near the bottom. I haven't checked the tops but these bastards are creepy watching them move up close. I like all the info you provided regarding the treatments and some I have already been getting ready for. I have hit it hard with Neem last night and will do the same tonite.
I just looked at my Quads which show no signs of the problem, but after an inspection on a lower leaf they have it too.

Should I remove them from the tent and let them go outside? Is my tent contaminated as well? Or do these mites stick to the plant?
Thanks for the link @Mr. Krip

The Neem oil you are using sounds really similiar to the one I have which I found in an Indian supermarket listed under beauty products in the chemist dispensary and it's also a gloopy brown liquid and stinks to high heaven but it works....

Blessed weekend wishes mr.S...
Hiya Mr. Smeegs, yes it's been a struggle but I'm in til the end my friend. I found this to be helpful on mixing up the Neem. I had a hard time trying to find a proper mixture/dosage:

To apply, mix 1.5 Tbsp of neem oil with 1/2 teaspoon of non-toxic liquid soap per gallon of water and shake like crazy before and during application. This makes for a 1:170 ratio of neem oil to water (1:150 to 1:200 seems to be the norm). That amount will do about 250-500 square feet, but don’t spray too much on young seedlings – it’s better to wait until plants are bigger for most types of foliar spraying, as tiny plants can be quite vulnerable to overapplication.

Good morning Nick,
your plants are looking healthy and I'm pretty sure that Mega Crop will work well for you. I would have liked to try it in the early veg stage but it's flower only for me.
I was going to flip my plants inside today but now I'm going to wait until I get a handle on these mites.

I'm very careful on what I wear down in the dungeon. If I go outside it's a shower before I go down. After work it's strip down to my underwear before I head down. I have one pair of slippers I only wear down there sitting on the top of the stairs. I don't let people down there as it's illegal here and I don't need any problems.

After looking at how small these guys are I can understand why the high level of security. It's so easy now that I see them for the bastards to transfer from plant to human to plant.

So I did some lollipopping today after reading @Norcaliwood post to try and reduce the mites. First time doing it so I hope I did it right.
I went to the local Canadian Wheel store today to pick up a 1/2 gallon sprayer. Got home and mixed up the neem and poured it into the sprayer. Tightened the cap on the sprayer to find out the threads were stripped so it wouldn't pressurize. At this point a shotgun is looking real good aiming at my plants right now, but I took a deep breath a calmly went back to the Canadian Wheel store for a product exchange. Nobody calls me stupid so I checked the threads before I left and all was good.
The plants got a good spraying over under and I bought some insecticidal soap that contains potassium salts of fatty acids to assist in a daily treatment for the next three days while the neem does it's thing. I don't want to overdo the neem so that's the last spraying until I see what happens. It might be aggressive but I'll let them rest after the three days. So far they don't seem to be bothered by the two treatments in the two days.

Subbed! Mites are extremely frustrating to deal with, but your girls look super healthy nonetheless.

So I've been trying different ways to adjust my pH up and down from tips around this site. I didn't want to have to resort to the Up or Down products most use, and one way to raise the pH was the use of potassium hydroxide.
I really should have spent more time in school studying chemistry, and not the effects weed had on my decision making while playing eurchre.
This stuff is pretty dangerous and you need to be careful how you handle it. None of the research I did mentioned that, but again, those people probably studied chemistry.

This info has to do with the feeding of MEGA CROP today. The rain water was at 7.9 and after the 4.5g of the MC it dropped to 5.6. Sooooo....you guessed it, we get to try out the potassium hydroxide to bring that pH up. I have it in flake form so I added 1/8 tsp, maybe 8-10 flakes. Checked the ph again and it was 11.4...wowsa that stuff is strong. There was no point in me trying to reduce it so I dumped out my first batch of MC. Off to a good start Sauga, all we need now is some rain.
So, went back and mixed the same batch of MC, 4.5 g and this thing hit the pH exactly at 5.6 again. Bonus! Soooooo, you guessed it, we get to try the hydroxide again. Don't call me stupid...there's a theme here if you read the earlier post, and this time I added a small tiny piece of flake, mixed for one minute and pH hit 6.5...are you kidding me, is this guy getting good or what???
My next two batches came out the same +/- a point based on the size of the flake. At this rate the qty I bought will last forever.
A good learning experience.

Hey Kaiser, welcome aboard, and thanks for joining the ride. It's been a roller coaster of a ride for me in here so hang on tight. It's only going to get better.
I'm hearing these are one of the hardest to get rid of, but I think the plants are strong and like @Pennywise mentions, the plants are taking one for the team, staying strong.

Taking it like champs, my plants always seemed oblivious to Neem during veg.
I'm wondering Penny if you see similar signs on this new growth? These pics are from the girl above, the shorter one on the right.

Thank you! Interesting choice for PH up as well. I'm pretty sure baking soda can be used in soil if you want something a little less interesting to handle :D

Well like I said I did a bunch of reading on different ways, and a couple of times I read baking soda is a poor choice for PH adjustment since the sodium upsets the osmotic balance. Now I have no idea what an osmotic balance is without goggle'ing it but the last thing I wanted to do is mess with something I had to do more homework on :)

The girls look really good actually. I might personally defoliate some of the leaves in the middle of the shorter one. She looks pretty thick in there still. Sorry to hear about the mites. Man those things can be hard to get rid of but sounds like you are doing a couple of the most popular methods so hopefully they work for you. I thankfully have not had to battle them yet.

Just a reminder for anyone who reads your thread to get out there and vote in the 420 MAGAZINE CONTESTS!
Some seriously nicely shaped plants the Mr. S. If you can get the bugs away they have a lot of potential to be put into a contest down the road. Lets just hope you can get rid of them!

OMG, I googled osmotic balance. Unfortunately I would have needed to google a bunch more things to understand the definition lol.
The first line "Osmoregulation balances concentrations of solutes and water across semi-permeable membranes, maintaining homeostasis. "
Too funny, I'm glad you went to check it out and not me. That's grow overload and my mind can't deal with that, lol.

Thanks Ase, I'll do that. I'm flipping the quads tomorrow so I'm pretty excited about that. Thanks for checking in.

Good job on nailing the ph adjustments. I too am getting to where I adjust it before I ever check it and am getting pretty close.
Good morning Magoo,
I fid the way I am doing it now stabilizes the pH instantly. The potash is a lot more stable then the other ways I was adjusting up, ie calcium carbonate, dolomite lime etc. The tiny bit of flake is all I need each time to bring it up about 3/4's of a point
The other good thing was that the MC is very consistent. I measured 4.5g each time of MC and the water went down to the same pH each time. Very stable as well.
Have a great day Magoo.

Good morning Penny,
it's early morning here and the sun is just starting to come up. It'll be 27C today with a bit of humidity, up to 31C. The plants have responded well to the neem treatment. By that I mean they don't look stressed out. The days are shorter at about 13-14 of light and the girls outside have showed signs of pistiling for the last week or so.
Would you give the plant another dose of the neem or do you suggest I just let it sit for a bit, have patience and wait and see? My feeling is if they look good and not stressed give them a light spray of neem. I could use your advice as I have nothing else to go on first time round. Thanks man.

edit: fixed many typos
