Salt N Pepa: Back Again

Ok so this journal is to accomplish what I couldn't before and that is to get a successful female. I have learned from my mistakes and hopefully get a great next practice run before I plant my autos. If you have been apart of my first journal you will know that I was far from a beginner, but with some new found knowledge and help from all my amazing ganja yoda's I know that this time around will be more exciting then the last...

I have 4 bag seeds that some would consider past their "prime" they are a few years old but have been stored I feel very carefully. I already made the mistake of not even knowing the kind of strain they were as they were all just mixed together and so its gonna be like a mystery party.

I am also using this second go around to see what exactly does happen when you plant a white seed. I'm sure all of you who are far more experienced then I am all know the outcome but what is life without a little dream or hope. My first run ended with a hermie and I am also curious if the others may be as well. I know of at least one or two seeds that came from a completely different person, grower and plant. So there is hope that 2 of these will be from that bag.

I am using jiffy peat pallets for germination and have them covered with the plastic for the green house affect. I plan to start with my 150W SunBeam light and then move to my Veg/Flower light. I have seedling food soaked water and then plan to use organic soil. I have the Bio nutrient set and will keep reading on proper water so that they have healthy roots and maybe some good growth.

I made so many errors my first time but I think the biggest was second guessing my plant this time I hope to give it the best positive environment so that I can get a better outcome.

I will post plant updates on Monday as it is my day off. I invite any and all to join in this and welcome all advice.

I also placed them different. Salt n Pepa 1 is with the wide bottom part down Salt n Pepa 2 were with skinny end up.

A white seed? Immature/undeveloped? It may be hollow; roll it between two fingertips, and press, maybe it'll just go flat and save you some time.

So your other journal is finished? If so, please use the "Report" link (that's at the bottom of every post) on one of the posts in it to ask a staff member to move it to either the "Completed" or "Abandoned" section, whichever you feel is most appropriate. People will still be able to post in it, and you will still get notifications of new activity - it's just housekeeping, basically.

It's not exactly "mission critical" level importance, but if you plant your seeds with the pointy end up, it'll make it easier for it to remove the seed case as the embryo develops into a seedling and breaks ground. In other words, less chance of "helmet head." If that happens - the seed case is stuck to one of the cotyledons, you can drip water on it several times over the course of a few minutes in order to hydrate the seed case / cotyledon interface and gently remove it without damage. Usually.

They were not hollow and seemed good. I don't really expect it to do much but its more so comical to me with the whole Salt n Pepa theme... I also want to just test peoples theories. Some say in pallets it doesn't matter but I really think it does.

hypothesis A: White seeds wont grow into a full plant or if they do won't produce flower

hypothesis B: Pointy way up will result in stronger start for plant. I also think they will sprout before the wide side down.

All this is to just give me something to do that will still keep me continuing to practice as well as get myself ready for when I have good seeds.

Thank you I will go and do that in the previous journal.

You’d be surprised with some seeds, I just had a White OG seed that was cracked open germinate on me. I had figured it for a goner before I even dropped it in the water to soak, 8 hrs later a taproot was already hanging out of it. It went straight from the water to the soil, no trip to a wet paper towel as the taproot was long enough for me to be comfortable planting.

I’m glad you decided to do a practice run on germinating these seeds before your paid for autos. It’s good to get a system down that works for you because germinating is something a lot of people can struggle with and even people with very successful germination rates can get a bad run where nothing seems to pop.

I have 2 more reg bag seed that i would like to practice with germination although i seem to have luck with getting them to do it in either the peat pallet or the bio degradable but as with my first run 1 out of 3 made it but i felt like that was because of me leaving them under 24 light when they were germinating (found out that wasnt the smartest) this time im following the box and gonna see im also going to try today and get these 2 (Mary-kate and Ashley) to germinate with soaking and then paper towel...

I would like to get all this out of the way before i start expensive seeds although only 40 bucks i dont want them to not grow on account of one simple mistake. I love that when i search old journals i see all your guys' advice over the years.

I finally figured out the timer lol now i cant wait because i will never have to stress about the light situation again!!

I've never germinated outside of just plopping them in soil and i wanna try these last 2. So when i soak them do i use reg house water or purified? I also get water from a natural spring a few miles away so i have 3 options lol should i try 1 in spring and 1 in purified just for shits and giggles? Also after their soak do i put the paper towl in a zip lock or should i leave it out?

I use distilled water to soak mine in for a day or so until they crack open or sink. Then I transfer the in between a wet paper towel inside a sandwich baggy until they start showing a taproot before planting.

The major reason for me to do this is to see that the seed actually germinated and started growing before planting. I hate staring at empty soil for days on end while a seed sprouts.

Just found all the info i could ever ask for (thank you green gods for sara) im gonna pick up a mars hydro i feel like this should be done with the 6. I also think it will help with heat. Instead of 2 lights i can go down to 1

My new mars hydro light and my fabric pots will be here friday and I'm hoping it'll be just in time for a sprout or two. I didnt have time to soak mary-kate and ashley (hopefully not a dylan or blake) but im gonna do that now so that start time is 7:30 the other 4 were done at 5:30... If you cant tell i love odd numbers.. My favorite number is 15 :Namaste:
