s1ingblade's Coco OG Kush & 818 HeadBand 1st Grow Journal 2013

re: s1ingblade's Coco OG Kush & 818 HeadBand 1st Grow Journal 2013

I dont have a lid that fits right, think if I did and was able to get the humidity up there they would root faster?
Thanks Culti

I went ahead and started two L.A. Confidential's last night.

Hey AZMEDS, I was reading over some of your posts here, regarding the cloning issues you have. I know that you know what you are doing but I thought I'd toss my 2c in just for laughs. Too often I see people trying to rush their clones to root. The most important factor in obtaining high success rates is the humidity. The cuttings get little intake of the water you give the stem, they depend on the moisture they can grab from the humid air. I have 2 clone units. One is a "power cloner", the other is my own version. They both work the same. I have found that a regime of spraying the stem for 10-15 seconds on, then off for four hours works the best for me. I once was successful in rooting a "bark" stem (almost impossible) but it took 13+ weeks to get the first tiny white bump. I had almost given up many times but for an unknown reason, I hung in there. That was also one of the strongest strains I have ever had in 47 years of being a herbal consumer. Even light isn't as important as the moisture factor. Studies show this. There are as many techniques as one can imagine; one works for you, doesn't for me. I believe that the bottom line is the moisture level (temps important too) and to not over saturate those stems. There's a fine line between wet and moist. Wet will kill them. Your pictures are looking good too! Good job!

I am about to try rapid rooters too. I am a rockwool cloner normally since I achieve 100% usually, even with hard to clone strains.

I want to use rapid rooters since I am in a soilless mix. but I tried them once and failed miserably. XLR8 has a tutorial on cloning with the rapid rooters I believe. should be a good tutorial.

On the Pm issue AM. I think you need to clean the room and drop the humidity more. when you think the room is clean clean it one more time to be sure. I like to do a weekly maid service in my room. put on some music and clean every corner and crevise. very important In my eyes.

I have always had tremendous success (+90%) with Rapid Rooters. They have a small amount of nutrients in them and also dissolve when I put them into the Hydroton I use to grow the ladies out. I cannot express their value enough, but one has to find out for oneself...

I must try both, for sure. Has anyone used the liquid poultry compost aka AquaShield? If so can you tell me when and how you use it?
Thanks all

Aquashield is an excellent "preventative", if you think you're gonna' be plagued with pathogens. I have had good success with it, but it must be used religiously, kinda' like people and antibiotics. If you don't take the full amount of the Rx, you risk a repeat of whatever the ailment and this time it has strength with immunities. There are several versions of it from different manufacturers but I cannot remember all their names. They are basically the same thing. You know, "ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure!!!" Best of luck to you.

i agree wet is death damp is "winning" and temps tho the will root in lower temps it takes along time and to warm will waste them quick i got one of those mats from the hydro shop to go along with the 2 trays and dome i also blow in there a couple times a day seem a lil co2 helps:cheer:

Excellent Big Irish... I had forgotten to mention this. I too, blow (exhale) into the dome 2-3X/day. The CO2 has a definite impact as we all know, about 80% of a cuttings intake is through the leaflets and NOT the stems. Cheap and simple CO2 device is a plastic cup, water, sugar and a pinch of yeast. Gives off a small amount but 24/7. If light are off for some time, so what!

re: s1ingblade's Coco OG Kush & 818 HeadBand 1st Grow Journal 2013

I will get some updated pics this weekend, cant make it back up there until Sunday morn. The clones as bad looking as they are have started rooting, finally. The 818Headbands failed but the LA Confidential's are looking fine. So it will be OG Kush and LA Conf.

yup another great use for the red solo cup paul! from my homebrew days i learned to ferment like a champ and have leftover brewing yeast(it lasts much longer and is alcohol resistant ,like me lol) seems to keep the clones in better shape for longer too

Where would the Human Race be today IF we never had those 16 oz. Red Solo plastic cups. Please, I ask you all...

This is coming along very nicely, great work. Exceptionally looking forward to seeing the headband through to harvest, heard great things have yet to give her a go myself.

Sorry StonerGrower the 818's ended up with damping off or something similar, I do have 2 more seeds but want to wait until I can get a better brand of coco, going to try gold label once I can get up some funds. I do have a single seed of Dr. Grinspoon germinating right now under the old directv receiver:)

Not sure if its this brand of coco but where I pinched the tops the new ones are coming in discolored? Any ideas as to the different colors?

The flowering room at almost 2 weeks, I have shown this in progress so others could also learn the best way to support the buds. Forsure next round there will be a SCROG of some sort

re: s1ingblade's Coco OG Kush & 818 HeadBand 1st Grow Journal 2013

Well, one color is blue and another color is yellow. I hope that helps! LOL!

re: s1ingblade's Coco OG Kush & 818 HeadBand 1st Grow Journal 2013

LOL, I was more looking for why the different colors are happening? Is it due to something the plant wants and doesnt get? I think the coco is so full of salts or whatever that it is having a counter effect. All I know forsure is none of these issues happened last round. Next time I'm spending more and getting a non-compressed type and the one I am eYeBaLlInG is from Gold Label, found a deal from my friend for 150 bucks shipped for 20 bags 2.0 Cu Ft. will save the other bales for the summer outdoor run and will rinse the $hit out of em first and then soak em with a compost tea for a while before planting. re: s1ingblade's Coco OG Kush & 818 HeadBand 1st Grow Journal 2013

i have had really good luck with really cheap coco, the differences is how well its washed, you pay alot more for them to wash it or do it yourself and save $ coco is coco, its all crushed coconut shells, its just im thrifty and dont mind doing the washing, that looks like pretty fine pith coco, you may need to add a lil pearlite, the slight yellowing could be a few things, did the lights just come on? if so it could be the leaves need a a lil time to produce some chlorophyll and green up, or it could be the micro heard is very active and have all the nutes trmporarily locked up as the are eating in a few days as they die off they release the nutes in a perfect form and the plants will green up and explode, it looks very minor to me (in the pic) new leaves are not always super green, have you grown this strain in coco before? could just be how she rolls, and i may be that they need a lil extra n do you have any seaweed? a quick mist of some seaweed would green them up ,and get them growing like crazy, (at least thats what happens when i mist with bpn seaweed) remember not to over think this thing bfam! lol they look fine honestly i know you got alot riding on this and are stressing a bit, but just have a toke and relax they are ok its winter they dont act the same as they do in summer the natural growing season all is good under the azmeds hood:thumb:
