s1ingblade's Coco OG Kush & 818 HeadBand 1st Grow Journal 2013

hmm...they told me it was sealed bro, Im going with a mini split but only because they dont make a portable unit big enough for my needs.Sealed is definetly the way to go, otherwise your venting co2 out of the room costing you money not to mention the odor.It says right in the description that one hose is the condenser intake and the other is the condenser exaust, I think the only way it will leak air out of the room is through the hose connections on the unit.If you caulked them im pretty sure it will not create negative pressure, how can it?

so do you think (not that I am using co2 yet) it would be better for me to use both hoses? I would think with both it would pull in fresh air from outside and vent out the heat from the unit out the other hose. Soelius Air told me if I am trying to use there 2 hose models in a sealed environment to only use the exhaust hose and add the fresh air filter? I dunno but I bet ronnie would. he the HVAC go to guy IMHO

Hey s1ingblade, I am really loving the gro-cubes. In my journal I am about 2 weeks away from harvesting a plant grown in 3 gallons of gro-cubes (flood and drain). I have been growing AK48 this way for a few months and I get around 8oz per plant. Now I'm growing the ACE and I know I'll get more, just not sure how much! I have never had an issue with gnats or any kind of pests so I am really lucky there. I'm sure I will benefit from the airpots, because when I harvest and look at the root ball, the roots are circled up really bad in the 3 gallon pots. I can see how they would allow more access for gnats though. Cost is not an issue for me because I only flower a couple at a time.

Breaking bad is my favorite. I too can't wait for the rest of the next season, and yeah, I think this will be the end. If you liked Breaking Bad, you should watch another one of my favorites, which is Six Feet Under. You can pick up the seasons really cheap on ebay. Like BB, just when you think things can't get any worse, they do!

Back to your journal. The bud porn is great. Those are some frosty nugs! And that cloner is really sweet. As far as the smart pots go, I have used them but the roots embedded into the fabric, and when I moved to a bigger pot I damaged roots, and it was a big mess. But they do prevent circling. I guess I shouldn't use them until I am done transplanting. Just use regular pots and then move to the 5 gallon fabric pots for flowering. The 5 gallon pots my local store has are too short and wide. I like a little height on em.

:thumb: Keep the updates coming, I look forward to them and I learn something every time you post. Thanks.

I will have to look into 6 feet under, thanks. Yeah I won't use the smart pots until the last transplant. I got stright from the cloner to either .5 Gal or one gal grow bags. two weeks later they go into another bigger grow bag, either 1 or 3 gallon depending on what size the 1st was and 6 weeks later there going into their final home and for now that will be the 5 gallon smarties. I do want to try a run with bigger smart pots say 7 or ten gallon and fewer plants to see whats more efficient.

Sorry all you guys for being absent so often things are real hectic at the moment and I am really behind on the to do list of stuff to get ready to move back to the land

From what I understand, and I have done some research on this... these "TWO hose" portable air conditioners have two intakes and two outputs. If you are only using the one exhaust, then it is constantly pulling air out of your house and pushing it (with odor) outside (the input on the back is sucking in your house air). So your regular central air con has to work that much harder. The negative pressure in your house WILL suck in air from the outside to replace what the air con evacuated. So yes I think it would be better to take the two input/output rear hoses and put them both outside. This will keep the air pressure in your house constant. On the inside of the grow room, the unit takes in air and pushes out cool air, keeping that pressure constant as well.

The "gotcha" is that none of these sub-$500 units are actually SEALED. Meaning the input/output in the rear, is not sealed to the input/output on the front. So, C02 will leak out of the room. Their $3000 unit is designed so it is sealed.

I would REALLY like to run co2 but I can't do it without an aircon / dehumidifier. The only option I see is a mini split, but I don't want a unit sitting outside my house... if ya kno wha i'm sayin

>>>>I do want to try a run with bigger smart pots say 7 or ten gallon and fewer plants to see whats more efficient.

I would really like to see that! You don't see many people with those big fabric pots growing indoors. When I read about people with "one pounders" indoors, one thing they all have in common.... HUGE grow containers! I'm trying for 12oz in the superoots 5.2 gallon air-pot. She goes into flower in one week!

Yo Cap'n, keep at it and you'll probably get even more than the 12. These days I am concentrating on root health and I think its "Key". I never understood the concept of feed the soil and not the plant. I have been playing with my passion for along time but never at the level I do these days. So I consider this year my "First". If it wasn't for the mess and the gnats having lil hiding spots I'd keep at it with the air pots. Maybe would be better for me to use them in Wintertime. Those suckers are expensive also. Two years ago I bought a dozen of both the 3's and 5's and I dont remember exactly how much but it was'nt cheap. The smart pots are alot cheaper but wont last as long either.
Thanks for the input on the the portable air conditioners. I will let ya know if I find the mini split I want for my upcoming "Biggest Room" it's only 10 by 20 feet but for me it will be my biggest room so far. I know jon705 has a lot of time put in researching the mini's and when the budget allows I want one BAD lol. Hopefully later this year or at least before this time next year.
Have a good one all

hey brother s1ing!

cher, glad to hear about your son graduating ma man! excellent news :cheesygrinsmiley: and not so happy to hear your daughter is being charged?? hope things turn out on the positive with her brother.

budporn is looking exceptionally sexy dude :thumb: always an inspiration.. all that hard work to achieve your goal :goodjob:

keep it green bro, much Love from the land down-under /|\

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I still have a lot to learn and that's why I follow grows like yours ;-)

I hear ya. I look back to just a year ago and I laugh at myself about all the stupid things I did. But it was all a learning experience.

Do you use any mycorrhizae or other beneficial bacteria? I started using Heisenberg's Tea recipe last fall and it makes a difference. I make 5 gallons of tea once a week. I got a bad case of pythium in aero last fall, and I tried EVERYTHING with 0 results (chiller, zone, h2o2, bleach, physan20, sm90, hygrozyme). The tea was the ONLY thing that turned around my pythium problems in aero. I'm talking about a 2 foot plant that was basically a stalk with almost all roots totally dead, and the tea made it grow roots again, almost like a clone. :-) If it can do that with a sick plant, it must do wonders for a healthy plant. You might have pest problems but trust me, you don't want pythium problems.. it's a nightmare.

Mang! I could grow some chongers in there!!!! I'm envious.

I started flowering my big mama in the 5 gallons of croutons this week. It is in my veg closet under 400w MH for 12 hrs, then I take it out and sit it on the floor in the flower room. I have one more week before I can put it under the screen, because there is a plant finishing up, sitting in the place where this one will go. The good news is, I'll be able to see if MH helps with stretch in the first 2 weeks. The ACE stretches a lot under HPS. One thing that may contribute to that is I use liquid light foliar spray. I like some stretch so buds are not so thick (less chance of mold). Ahhhh, so much to learn. I'll update my journal soon.

Have you experimented with MH / HPS stretching at all? I have read MH results in less stretch but haven't tried it until now.

One more question for you, wise one: When you first start 12/12, do you kick up the flowering nutrients or do you wait a couple weeks?

usually you start them on a transition type feeding befor they go into flower. transition meaning they are still growing and putting out new leaves so grow nutrients are needed as well as a light dose of bloom as well. i myself will not give there real flower feeding until the stretch is over. like 2-3 weeks from the flip

That worked well with my smaller plants, my 15 gals were faster tho and needed some nutes sooner then later lol, making them starve then giving them a good feed make them go balls out : )

grats on having a graduate!:bravo:!! man i know your as busy as a one armed paper hanger! but i also know how driven you are! theres no quit in you! your determination inspires me! so im getting into high brix finally a member here decided to give me a box o brix goodies! and i scored some good soils to get it started, i think this is gonna change growing for the insanly better forever once it catches on! have you been following docbud, curso, icemud and several others high brix journals? crazy off the charts quality meds! growing plants at their maximum genetic potential is the goal, i now have about a dozen products to test and great growers to guide me! within 2 months i will be able to see for myself what a HIGH brix bud can do! im as excited about this as i have ever been aboutanything related to growing my meds! the next wave of flowering plants i just started will be with high brix! well bfam i know your busy so i better let you go! talk to you soon:thumb::circle-of-love::high-five:

S1, have a great weedend wont you:)

It shouldnt work much different with a bigger plant.
at least i wouldnt think it would.

The plants i have in 15 gals are much, much larger and larger the plant, larger the rootball, and in turn the quicker the soil is depleted of water/ho2/nutes

it works you just have to be very watchfull of the plants when u do it lol

Thanks brother. Yeah he graduated and now its time for a job lol. The daughters out and on probation where they can just storm in so I dont know how wise it would be for her to come back and live with me. Then again if its for her best I'd shut everything down before turning her away. With the littler kids that are younger than her I cant take a chance on getting them taken away.

Thanks cap'n. The tea does work wonders and I have been adding mycos here and there. Of course I am out of them now. The sushine advanced #4 has it in there. I have flowered with MH and veg'd with HPS but I was always growing different strains so it's hard to tell. If I messed around with the diff. bulbs now I could tell a difference. I love the results with flowering out one phenotype instead of all different strains. This run thats in its 5th week is all OG and my healthiest by far, ever.
I am going to try that and not give them any bloom food till stretch is over. Usually I give them some grow type nutrients a time or tow after flip and once I see flowers setting I switch.

I am going to be using 5 gallon containers next run. This run is in 3 gallon grow bags and I like how they dry out in between waterings. I will have to get used to them holding more water and nutes and adjust accordingly.

Sorry all I have been so busy getting the air conditioner in the wall of room B and all the other stuff life has been throwing at me that I am just plain whooped by the time i get home I just go to bed lol. That and it's warming up pretty good and I am getting used to that all over again. I am always amazed how the 1st. 80+ degree day is harder to deal with than in August when its really hot??
After all I had to go thru to save money and not buy ANOTHER a/c all I can say is "MINI-SPLIT"?? Now I have a 16"x12" hole in the wall that I will have to deal with every winter. Maybe next year I can afford to buy one of those dual head minis with heat? If so I will board up the new hole in the wall and get it right:)
If I could have only known this cabin wasn't going to be a wood shop as planned and a grow room, I could've made it so much easier on myself thats for sure. Oh well $hit could always be worse, thats for sure.

Good Weed s1ing, My boy is also graduating this year so congratulations!
not sure what to do with him other than kick hiss ass out. easier said than done.:)
cant wait to see the bucket girls:)

Good weed to you too fish cake. "The Bucket Girls"?? The RDWC system I have in storage? I will mess with it once my power and water systems are upgraded and dialed.
Almost forgot bro Congrats to you and yours

High BID, not sure what that one purps was lacking but WOW what it did the next day or whenever it was. I took 24 cuts the other day and after driving half way home I thought, "Did I turn the cloners water pump back on'? lol went back after working for a day and a half whooped ass tired and of course it was on. I didnt want to take a chance with the Cookies Mother plant I picked out if I didnt turn it on and lost them it would be a few weeks before she would give another 9 nice cuts lol.
I want to apologize to everyone subbed up on this thread for my absence. Things are hectic and I am scrambling to get up enought funds to get the house.
I will take more pics soon and update this journal proper like asap

good weed s1ing!
