Were the grateful dead that big over there?
.They were veryfuckinbig. And the "scene" that followed them around was an ecosystem unto itself even when they weren't touring. I encourage you to read that book Griz.
Not so here. I mean, they/jerry is face of psychedelica, and respected. But not sure most would know anything by them.
.Very much an "American" phenomenon, I assure you.
Would you go for the music or the carnival atmosphere?
.Both. Go for the music, stay for party in the parking lot & nearby campgrounds afterwards. That's how middle America got its acid for decades-Dead Tour.
We don't have shit like that here. Small scale, rave scene had a warehouse/complex for couple years, until it became a drug den that cops closed down..
.America, is kind of... Big. Think of Nimbin as a slightly larger scaled Hog Farm (Google "wavy gravy hog farm") & I think you're on the right track.
I guess every scene has groupies that follow shit but nothing big and exciting touring the country regularly..
.Yeah, the whole Dead Tour scene was a sociological soup (or maybe haggis lmao) of interesting, intertwined tentacles that spread through society & influenced America from The White House to Steve Jobs and Woz @ Apple & much, much more...
guess that's why two biggest strains both coming from bag weed seed at dead concert sounds foreign to me.
.What speaks VOLUMES is that those varietals are still around and still held near & dear even 20-30 years later, and they're from Classic, (basically pre-Neville) stock that today's polys can't hold a fucking candle to.
Ok,
