Recess Is Over - Now To Muck Up The Lesson

Thai be my best bet.. Thailand Australia makes sense to me..

The crap we were smoking then was 1/4 the strength we have today. And it was 25 a 1/4 because of it.

And somewhere between the two lays heaven. Probably extra 2 months under the sun in the right climate :) my dads not a smoker but will have a toke when beers are flowing fires going, you know the scene.. but doesn't smoke, this might happen once every two years.. thinks stuff we smoke today is nothing compared to 60-70. He associated smoking like lsd from his experience, now he says it's more like an opiate..

Would anyone know about anything with purple pistols? I had a strain from ages ago (all seeds failed to germ :rip:) but I was told by the person whom gave them to me that it had purple hairs...it would have been around the 70's in NSW

Exactly what I grew up hearing, I didn't smoke but my friends did so I heard a lot of stories about how their parents always said that nowadays bud just doesn't have the same power punch.

Didn't weed and/or hash come from afghanistan/lebanon to OZ as well? Apparently also with the chinese migration during the gold rush some of them brought chinese indicas with them so that is also mixed into the local genepool of OZ..I read a thread about where weed came from and how it was imported from I think the 50/60's-late 90's

Hash, Yes in ships. Think ships were Asian though... flooded this town with it mid eighties.. missed containers on a seized boat, locals found the containers.. was stamped.. I can't find the same pic on internet to know what it was..

If they were smoking local I'd go around nimbin and talk to locals, they'll send you hiking  old mother sativa Mullumbimby madness or cape tribulation sativa.. find them, please.. .. imported itd been from Thailand.. if you want to make the hybrids from original seeds to have what they had. good luck with that  apart from not being around anymore, you could save yourself lots of time ,a lifetime and your child's) and run the old school strains to see if they are what your looking for.. you'll realise how far back into a mix you need to go to get your flavour.. no point making what's created, repeating what's already failed or not knowing why you want to add something to a mix before knowing what the parents are, you know?

Veg tent looks nice Grizz. All lined up like a little army and looking healthy.
DJ Short seems to be doing some good stuff re breeding something original. Seems like he has put some work into it. I have some Flo hybrid seeds which should be interesting. Read you can do multiple harvests on the Flo. Buds must mature at different stages.

Yeah i remember hearing something like that from my dad, I've spoken to a couple old school smokers and they said what was coming in was Afghan black (golden seal), lebanese red and blonde. That is from word of mouth though I'll never know personally what it was obviously.

Yep yep, Nimbin is a good spot to go to. Been there once but didn't feel comfortable enough to ask about seeds at that point. I'll try my best bro, I mean I'll be really trying to find some old school hippy genetics so I won't leave nimbin without at the least some seeds :) Really wishing I took more photo's last outdoor season so all of you could see how the 90's turned out...next time, all good. Not that hard to find those hybrids if you have seeds from that time. Luckily I do have seeds from 70's-90's also from 2 different states that makes good for variety, just have to get them to pop and see what they are aye. From what I was told about these seeds to elaborate a little, the seeds that range from 70's-late 80's are from NSW and the rest are from 80-late 90's come from VIC. The NSW seeds are apparently buddah (also known as thai stick, both green and brown varieties) and the VIC seeds are supposed to be Skunk. I'm really excited to see what I have now :) I know what you mean grizz, in reality I'm just dipping my toe into a world which is endless in knowledge and health. I want to explore the past, experience what it would have been like my predecessors and then maybe cross something old with something new and bring to life a new experience for all to enjoy. I don't have a specific goal with my growing except for learn everything and anything I can and if it just so happens that I create something unique out of my personal experience with growing/breeding cannabis well.....that's just bonus points imo :) Cheers grizz, jandre and skunk the info you have provided me with helps me grow into a more knowledgeable grower :thumb:

Was the Afghani Golden Seal hash? In the late 80's I ran into a guy that had just been over seas and he came back with a brick of hash. It was about 1/2 inch thick by 2 inches by 4 inches. It had, and he made a big deal about it, a golden stamp on the top in some sort of Arabic. We smoked it in a hash pipe made from the center tube of a roll of toilet paper wrapped in tin foil. At first I wasn't impressed for all the deal he made about it, but I can't remember anything else much after that.

Nevil
I've seen a few of D.J.Shorts writings. The man possesses an extremely fertile imagination. It reminds me of some intuitive/automatic writing I've seen. Very creative, but not scientific.

As for the exact photoperiod formula that I incorporate into my growing/breeding regime, this will presently remain a trade secret

I'll tell you mine, veg 24h, flowering 12h. I've tried lots of things, but I couldn't find evidence to justify changing things.

Much belated, random pointless comment... This quote made me laugh when I read it.
A year or two ago I was asking around about using different photoperiods like 11/13 or 10/14. Someone urged me to get DJ Short's book - made it sound like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread and would help take my growing skills up 17 notches.
Damn I skimmed the 'book', more like a magazine, in about five minutes and tossed it in a drawer for later - never took it out again. But that comment about the secret photoperiod stuck in my mind. Like WTF... really? How secret can it really be? And why? I mean- I just bought your book dude...
