Thanks, Xbones. Very interested in that juicing thing you do. I am going to try picking a few leaves regularly to try this out.

Great setup Ravyn.....definately subd........how high did you keep your 1200 mars from the canopy?:):Namaste:

Thanks, Green. :) I hung my 1200 as high to the ceiling as the hangars would allow. This puts the bottom of the light at 64 inches. Plants went in last time at 20-24 inches in height. Sooo... I guess they started at about 30 inches from the light. They did not stretch that much and then as the tops started filling they sagged a little under their own weight. :yikes:. Nothing ever got closer than 18 inches I would say.

Subbed. You do some nice work

Thanks, Peyton. Good to have you here. :smokin:

Well. Are we on page two already? Time for some more pics, no?

Frosty Top was special. She started showing twice as much sugar twice as early as any of the other four plants. Not sure if it was a different Phenotype or frankly if that is possible from feminized seeds. (?) But I did decide to try taking some late cuttings the same day I chopped her.

These shots were taken about 3 days before my early harvest. Yep. Had to chop about a week earlier than I should have. Oh well. Next time they go the distance.

Subscribed. Thank you for the invitation!

In addition to the 6/9 base, I add a pinch of Epsom salts for Cal/Mag.

Epsom Salts contain Magnesium Sulfate and add a magnesium and sulfate source to your nutrients. Epsom Salts do not contain calcium.

Hey KingJohn! Thanks for coming by. :grinjoint:

Right you are of course. That one slipped past quality controls. :bigblush:

I have heard lots of folks talk about the need for Cal/Mag when growing in Coco. I use well water with a starting PPM around 150-180 so I think I must be getting all the extra Calcium I need from that. Never noticed any deficiencies (at least to my rookie eyes.)

The other goof in my first post was mentioning a top layer of hydroton as a barrier to fungus. Of course, I meant to say Fungus Gnats. whoops. :scratchinghead:

Thanks for all your great reviews, too. Extreme Q is high on my list now. :volcano-smiley:

I don't know about hydroton as a barrier for fungus gnats. I think they use it as beach front property :cheesygrinsmiley: there is stuff called Gnat-Nix, put a layer of that under your hydroton and anywhere they can get in and you will stop them.

Woaaa!!! Look how busy it is in here, page 2 already :) Your question on different phenos with fem seeds, this is perfectly normal mate, you'll almost always have this :)

Thanks, Skunny. I suspected that was the case. I have never taken cuttings so late as this but have always had pretty good luck. The hard part was finding a few tops that were small enough I didn't want to smoke them! :blunt:

Thanks for the tip, Buckshot. I think it was BID that I first heard mention the layer of hydroton on top. Fortunately enough, I have never seen any gnats at all but it seems that they are the annoying bane of so many who grow in coco. I do think they help to keep a nice flat layer on top of the buckets. I water pretty fast with 2 liters at a time and it just splashes out evenly over the top. No holes.

What a slick set up! And your results speak to the whole! Good job. I'm subbin up to watch this for sure!

Thanks, J18! Good to have you here. :)

You may want to read in BigIrishDoode's or Seth Lavender's Lets Talk Coco! Organics & Salts thread on adding minerals to coco coir.

For sure I will be going back and reading that one again. I followed and read all of BID's threads and journals last year and went through most of them a second time in mid-august. :( I will be reviewing them again before I start my Purple run on the next round. :ganjamon:

Hey! Just noticed we are on page 3. You know what that means? New page = new pics.

I have a few nice shots of the girls on their chop and trim day. I was very much on the fence about harvesting early as the tops were not showing any amber trichs at all. The issue was though, that one cola had to be removed a few days earlier after I discovered a touch of Bud Rot. I was very worried about it spreading through the garden even though I had increase circulation and dropped the RH to 50% in the bloom room.

Bud-Rot-001.jpg

I pulled all five of the ladies out in the main room and inspected them in daylight. After scouring the tops I managed to count half a dozen amber trichs among the mostly milky heads and decided to pull the trigger. I have no doubt that one more week would have packed on more weight and lead to denser buds but oh well. Sometimes you just have to fish or cut bait. :)

It was my first trimming in 12 years but it seemed to come back to me and feel quite natural. I pulled one of my "no-name" ladies in a 5 gallon bucket out and decided to warm up on her before tackling Tiny.

I liked the tomato cages for helping to support the tops. I considered a scrog but liked being able to move the plants around. The top rung of the cage works well for hanging the yo-yo bud supports.

5_Gal-002.jpg

The first top came out not too bad. I trimmed fairly loosely as I knew I only had an hour per plant to finish in time for dinner.

5_Gal-003.jpg

I screwed a couple of 1 x 2 's to opposite sides of the bloom room and then added eye screws every 8 inches along them. I used strands of garden wire to create my lines.

I graded my tops into 3 levels. Grade A were the fat tops I trimmed myself. I considered six colas to be heavy enough for this grade. I hung them largest on the ends and smaller in the middle in the hopes that this would help them dry evenly. Grade B were those that were big enough to hang but small enough that I let my son trim them for me. Grade C were on par density with Grade B but not big enough to hang. They went into a hanging, drying mesh net, thingy. Each plant got its own line and its own level in the rack so that I could track the dry weights and compare the yields from 3 gallon to 5 gallon, and from topped to non-topped.

Next up, Tiny Tim. :grinjoint:

Tiny Tim was the first plant to get a name in my garden on this round.

Consistently outpaced the other girls and had a beautiful set of 4 main tops after two rounds of snips early in Veg.

One lower branch also made it into the Grade A designation. The 5 tops came in at 101 grams dry with the biggest setting a personal best of 41 grams.

Tiny had very little fluffy stuff at the bottom. Almost all top shelf meds. Surprisingly, it was not my heaviest yielder of the five. :icon_cool

A nice look back on your previous grow :)

It is a bit more interesting than the seedlings growing a quarter inch since yesterday. :biglaugh:

I was taking a ton of pics across the finish line as it was really my best garden ever. You ever hear of or try c-vaults for storage? I got a bunch but not enough apparently. All my best stuff is now in a big rubbermaid. Need one of those Mega Vaults!
