Rain water for indoor plants

This is my first grow so it's all a learning experience for me. Ask time goes on and experience takes over j think I'll be fine. But my short experience on this forum is that everybody is more than willing to help a fella out, and for that I am truly grateful, thank you all so much for understanding I'm a virgin and taking it easy on me.

The basics of what has been mentioned already.

I do not know what you are collecting the water off of. That much water could be off of a roof.

Some of my thoughts might not apply to your situation but there are probably others thinking about rain water. Whatever settles or collects on the roof can end up in the drum. I already mentioned dust, especially in the warmer months. Leaves in the fall through spring can be blown around in strong winds and collect on roofs and in open barrels or buckets. Looking online there are many plans with diagrams for making rain collecting barrels which filters to keep debris out.

Tree seeds can blow onto the roof and get in but the one that is most likely to sprout is the seeds from Cottonwoods and Poplars. Those are the cotton looking fluff seeds that are really annoying, usually the first hot spell of the summer around here. Roofs with a tree overhead are the most likely for leaves and other debris so do not be surprised.

All this stuff can give a bit of a color to the water but it does not seem to affect any plants being grown in soil mixes. The clearest water I have collected is that from melted snow.

Good luck wit your grows.

This time I collected the water off of a metal roof in 5 gallon buckets then ran it through a sap strainer so unless it was smaller then 50 microns it didn't get through.. I'm going to set something better up this spring, this was just a get some water fast collection this time.

You got the bases already covered.

It looks like there is a lot of good info in this thread for new people who will be thinking about rain water for their upcoming grows.
