Radogast's Non-420 Garden Creation Thread

That is so cool! I love how you lay the logs. Eventually, that will fill in and things will grow and a natural walking path will grow from the life in the decomp. I want to do the same thing to help with the terracing where the angle is pretty steep.

Mark is calling ... I'll tell more tomorrow.
Goodnight one and all.

One last send off and salute in honor to BID.
Take care matey.

Ohhhhhh so cute! I love little rats and mice. I would get some, but they don't live long enough for me. I die when they do. No more after Mika, if she doesn't outlive us.

We said "no more" after our 3 ratty girls a couple of years ago.
But we had robo hamsters then.

But the girl really wanted rats again.
And her friend's rat had pups.
We were going to pick out one, but they are sooooooo cute.

Very cuddly. I don't know how Mika is going to react to company I have arriving in a few. It's a friend moving from San Diego to Orlando and he is driving so stopping here half way. He has his little rescue dog who is blind with him. Mika saw a dog one time or twice. She definitely drew a line in the sand for where that dog was allowed to walk!

I ordered a nebulizer for her and it is coming today. She is going to get nebulized antibiotics for 15 days, 15 minutes a day in addition to an oral medication. I actually called the vape company to ask if I could vape her antibiotics; if they would get atomized the same way. Unfortunately, no. I hope she likes being confined in a covered little carrier with steam! The things we do for our pets.

The rats are adorable, and they do make great pets. My friend had two and they were always cuddling with them.

Cudos to you gardenfaerie for taking in a rescue especially one with health problems. They need the love the most! my daughter just rescued a pup from Texas - we're in NH. Had some people drive her up here. found a wonderful couple that retired and thats all they do now is drive across country delivering rescue dogs.

We have a zoo here but my favorite will always be a ferrit named Beebee. She would follow me all around while i did my gardening outside and each time id stop to do something, she would stop and lay down while i did my thing and then would follow me to the next task. I swear she thought she was a cat. Ate cat food, went in the cat box, slept with my cats and would cuddle with me on the couch.

When I was at the vet last week someone came in with two of the most cuddly, cute, sweet, kissy face ferrets I ever met. They were so social and let me hold and cuddle them both. They are like having a liquid animal in your hands! These two were de-stinked. I thought the one I knew was de-stinked, but turns out it wasn't. PU. But these two had no odor at all. Very cuddly.

and I am sorry for confusion. We didn't rescue Mika. We tried to get a rescue, but this was our first parrot and nobody would even interview us. They prefer experience and I guess I can see that. I have Mika for over 12 years since she is 12 weeks old. I bought her for 800 dollars. They cost a lot more now, thankfully. I wish they'd stop the entire exotic pet industry. Our pets are fine, but so many aren't. I can't bear to think about it.

Oh im sorry i misunderstood. I thought it was the blind pup you were rescuing and using the neb on. I read it wrong. Poor Mika, thats amazing what they can do to help them. Hope Mika gets well soon. Our pets are our family, especially one thats been in the family 12 years

I could never commit to a parrot. They live too long. I can barely commit to raising humans.

Emotionally, I'm more of a grandpa than a dad. Love them deeply and give them back when we're done.

I say that. And intellectually I believe that it's possible. But in reality I commit for the long haul

Oh it's definitely a lifetime commitment. I have no idea what we'll do if we die before her. I did ask Mark the other day if we should update our wills. So now we have that to do. Joy.

She took her nebulizer today like a champ in her little cage covered with plastic. If this works, I will be the happiest on earth.

Finished laying the logs on the dam path, accompanied by bullfrogs.

The pond is on the left, the stream is on the right.
Since my spring is not flowing, I diverted the stream into the pond.

I dropped wood chunks almost on top of this frog ( you can see the floating wood bits) no reaction.
Later in the day I accidentally shoveled up a frog while digging out the bank, I think it was this same frog.

What a wonderful thing to take stewardship of such a nice property!

And a pleasure to give it all a thorough look and read!

:thanks: :nicethread: :goodjob: :Namaste:

Rado, you are my kind of people.

People like you give me hope. I can't help seeing all the bull dozing going on all around me. Tearing out forest land to put in the Mac Mansions. Not a thousand feet from my house is a new road going in for 260 homes ranging in price from 300 to 600k. WHO is going go buy these? I am not thrilled.

But, I have come to love my trees and every bird, insect, lizard, snake and rat on my property. I worry if we sell this property the new people will douse poisons on everything and my trees, insects and birds will all have to move somewhere else. I suppose that is what keeps me tethered to this house. Certainly not the house itself. The yard is all that interests me and all alive in it.

When you find others with like minds it is kismet. I am very fortunate to have stumbled on 420 Magazine.

Yesterday I hung the hammock purchased Friday.

This is the first time in my life I have ever lived with a hammock.

Test drive

At this point I decided to tell the family the hammock was ready for use.
An hour later my wife noticed bees, wasps in a small log on the ground under the hammock.
She also noticed poison ivy vines climbing a nearby tree.

The bees took great offence art me hacking loose the poison ivy vine.
They came after me like hornets and stung me 7 -9 times.
I took an antihistamine. No issues.

Then I took two more pictures of the hammock.

I love Heuchera. It comes in so many different colors and textures. I can't grow it here at all. Too hot. I also can't grow snakeroot. Faves.

Thanks for identifying it. I couldn't remember at midnight last night :)
These have a max height of 9 inches.

The Heuchera "Coral Bells" has a lovely whimsy. She belongs near the fairy bell and the garden fairy.
My wife picked up a matching one today, so we can have one for each little newel cap.
She knows I like symmetry in gateways :)

There are hundreds of Heuchera's of every color and shape leaf. Quilted leaves, fan shapes, so beautiful and a plant I used to collect up north when I gardened in NY.

It makes absolutely no sense in Texas to garden using anything but native plants or very well adapted varieties. I have killed more plants than I care to admit trying to force a plant to grow where it does not want to be. Now I just dig it out, compost it and never plant it again...but I also make much better choices. Heuchera is a great woodland plant.
