Been reading up on these polypoid plants looks quite interesting and quite achievable to make your own but can't find anything to say if it's safe to smoke on a first generation plant?

Where did you guys get your seeds from I read there's a seed bank trying to bring these plants commercial but from what I read the seeds from second generation plants are sterile but can't find much up to date information on them

From what I've read it is very difficult to 'breed' the polyploid trait because double must mate with a double... a quintuple with a quintuple... etc for the mutation to be passed on and there is no way to really know what level of polyploid you have. My seeds were gifted by a guy I know learning to breed. Just a happy accident. I have about 50 more... who knows if there's more in there... didn't even really think about it.

One of us has attempted cloning their polyploid but we don't know if the clones will take on the same trait.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be safe to smoke... None of ours were bred to be what they are...

We eat polyploid fruits and veggies every day.

I'll let you know in 6-7 weeks though!!

Lol

I know we eat polypoid food but smoking weed that's been treated with gout treatment is technically poison but as for yours seems just a natural mutation rally than man made mutation and I know breeding them is hard as the plant turns out to be sterile when mutated for some reason

Ahhh... I thought you were suggesting our beautiful freaks of nature wouldn't provide good smoke! I don't know if this mutation is truly beneficial in the cannabis plant. Yes it can produce cool big funky double dong nugs.... but I have no doubt that my properly trained plants of the same strain will out produce dear poly. You may have seen us discuss how these plants are more of a problem than a prize. They are finicky, half of my plant wants more nutrients than the other half. They grow awkwardly and unpredictably... and I love my little poly but if it was Sophie's choice up in my grow room... well... poly would be the first to go ..

In a fruit or vegetable bigger means better... we have grown accustomed to seeing gargantuan strawberries and pumpkins with extra .... uhhh pump? But that is not always true in the cannabis world. Maybe if they could truly breed the poly to a reliable structure it would be one thing... but it seems that has been tried and nearly impossible. Maybe it will take hundreds of years... but until you can successfully predict the polyploids future form... it would be a massive headache to have a whole crop of plants needing very specifically tailored nutrient and training regimes.

I'm just stating what I know from raising one from seed and reading up on it a bit. I don't know if my opinions... that I'd take one of my well trained even canopied girls of the same strain over my poly if I was looking for the best producer.... is shared by my fellow poly parents.

I wish I could know for sure that you'd get another poly if I sent you a handful of beans of the same stock because I'd be happy to do so... since you are interested. It's most likely just a one off though...

I don't know if polyploid is a reliable future for high producing cannabis but they are fun to watch grow ... even if they are problem children.

Had my seeds from bomb seeds, the poly is growing just as well as the other 5 and looks the healthiest all on the same feeding schedule so no problems as of yet. I have read first generation polys dipped in colchine are unsmokable but seeds soaked in colchine to induce mutation are fine to smoke.

They are absolutely like raising the problem child. ;)

Thanks for posting, this is my understanding as well.

Updated pics of my poly in the 5th week of flower.
I'd say the main poly cola, is currently about an ounce by itself. It's as wide and thick as a bic lighter.

I have an auto that has three of her six tops with mutation. Two of the mutant tops have twin tops with three branches and the other is twin tops with quad branches. She is only twenty days old but I'm excited. She's growing extremely fast as well.

That bud is so huge. Almost a shame to harvest it! :adore:

I'll try to get some better pictures, better lighting, to really show the dense growth. TBH it's rather insane. :)

This poly was a cutting taken from one of the 2 CaliConnection GSC that I popped. Her mother is in flower right now and I'm about to cut her down if she'll let me. :)
Looking at her in flower, she is definitely a different plant than her sister. The buds are very chunky, calyx are very swollen and keep producing white hairs. Pic is the polys mother starting week 10.
