Poor, CFL, Stealth, Maybe a Little Luck?

DFW-Guy..naaah..nothing that difficult. I went in to the local restuarant every morning for breakfast, and to a local bar for dinner..lol. Cooking for one over an open campfire got to be more work than it was worth. Was chased out in early October by the snow. Didn't want to be snow bound for the winter...lol. I did however, watch 3 bear cubs grow up during the summer, seems they and moma liked the wild raspberries as much as I did.

Wow thanks for that, but I've got it solved. Sort of. I haven't been feeding these plants anything but distilled water (will be switching to reverse-osmosis soon). The burn spots are from the light being to close. I've noticed something weird though, and after a few days this confirms it for me. Elsie has a 6500k light over her. I've had this light 1 inch away and have not had any burns at all. Marie has a 4200k full spectrum light. After a few days of altering the light distance I know for sure that the 4200k light will burn her if it is within 2 inches. I don't know why this happens, it just does. Maybe the lights run at different physical temps, or maybe different spectrum's have some strange burning powers.

Cfl lights have a "sweet spot" that can be anywhere between 2 and 4 inches away. Do you have a fan blowing across the plant tops now to deal with the heat? Adding a few teaspoons of nutes to a gallon of water before watering can take care of any deficiencys you may be experiencing. Any organic nute will work.

No I don't have a fan blowing on the plants. I did just pick up a new PC fan I got for free but I was going to use it for exhaust when I put in my scrubber. I really don't need it for that though, it was just going to be extra exhaust power. I'll work on putting it in for blowing on the plants tomorrow after I think about my future set-up some more. I'm the kind of person who rarely acts on impulse. Actualy I just thought of a way to install it that would help push in fresh air and blow on the plants. Well in between the plants cause I don't have room for a big oscillating fan. Only downside of having the 3rd fan is that my power supply doesn't put out enough current. I tested it out today and when the fan speeds slowed when the 3rd was on. I'm thinking about just using the 120mm fan for exhaust and this new 80mm to blow on the plants/bring in fresh air. The new 80mm blows more air it seems than the one I've had in for a while.

EDIT; Yung stikky the 6500k puts out the blue end of the spectrum, the 4200k puts out full spectrum. The 4200k is the one that burns em' easier. It might be actual operating temperature but I don't see why they would emit different amounts of heat since they're both 30 watt bulbs.

I think that'd work. Your extension cord is plugged into a surge protector yes? that plugs into the wall right? so what if you try to get another one, so both wall outlets are used, but you kinda divide the work load between the two? would that possibly help?
Na man it's just that my DIY power supply doesn't put out a lot of wattage.

I just wanted to throw in my two cents real quick... :grinjoint:

The color spectrum is not causing the burns. I've burned my plants with a 2700k and a 6500k.

Also, 4200k is not a full spectrum... it is simply part of the spectrum between 2700k and 6500k. Full spectrum grow light glow a light pink color when lit, and they emit the full spectrum all at once, not just one part. But, everything I've read about the full spec bulbs say they don't have enough lumens to use for this type of grow. I used a 24" full spec floro tube as part of the lighting for my last grow, but I also used several other types of bulbs at the same time so it's impossible for me to tell how well the full spec worked.

4200k bulbs will work for growing cannabis, but they are not ideal like the 6500k and 2700k are.

One thing to consider is... Are the different color bulbs made by the same manufacture? Because if not then one might have a higher operating temp then the other even thought they're the same wattage.

The burn could be from the light being to close, or from something not related to light at all... either way, I hope you figure it out! :smokin:

Ya man the lights and the power supply are hooked up to a surge protector/powerstrip. I have a few of them lol.

EDIT; Yes inhaledfreq the lights are all made by longstar. The packaging said "full spectrum" for the 4200k but not on the others, that's why I was have been believing it's full spec. Also is it normal for my plants to get droopy a couple hours before lights-out? They've been doing that and they get all perky again in the morning.

Hey man don't worry about the power problems, it's all under control. Thanks though BTW. The fans are being powered by a "build it yourself" adjustable ac/dc powersupply. You can see it in this pic. It doesn't put out much current and definitely wasn't made to power anything serious. I have a multimeter and could measure the exact power it puts out... but that's another day.

DFW-Guy, If you look at regular glass, not plexiglass, from the edge on, you will notice it's color. Glass with a higher lead content will appear greenish, whereas glass with a low lead content will appear more blueish. The blueish color means more light passing thru in all spectrums. That is the glass you would want to use for a heat blocker if you are thinking about boxing in your light source and venting it. Keep up the good work bro.

Lol, there's not that much going on is there?
Morning update: I think I'm going to water tomorrow, the soil is wet about 1.5 inches under right now. I've been having to raise the light on Elsie at least 1/4" every day. These girls are going to get big soon.
Heeere's Marie! 15 days morning

And Elsie the queen: 20 days morning. Your guess is as good as mine about what's going on where I cut her.

Thanks GMT1975A
I picked up a bottle of Fox Farms Tiger Bloom, it will be the only fertilizer used in this grow. I've had the plants sitting by the window today due to a power outage, and I think they like the sun. Should I give them a small dose of nutes on the next watering?
