I'm very glad that I took clones instead of returning to seed, should save some time + definite female. Though with this strain, I'll still be in flowering for at least 12 weeks!

Thanks bro, and your right about that. That's all it boils down to. And if you don't use nutes you most likely won't have any problems with PH.
 
Well alright everyone, the flush has begun :yummy:
I put my own spin on it though. Instead of using plain water I'm still going to be adding molasses. I read (in settingsun's journal I believe) that flushing hurts the microbial colonies in the soil. I also know that using molasses helps promote healthy and vivacious colonies. I figure that the colonies help my plants so there's no reason to make them go away ;)
 
yeah i runcarbs through mine til the last few days . then i flush with florakleen for 2 days then pure h20 last day then lights out for 24 hours with no feeding durring the dark period. the roots dring out will cause the plant to thrive on whats left in its system. Kinda like when in the late flowering stages, you rfan leafs will turn yellow cause the plants tring to use all the nitro it has in its system to live a lil bit longer.

I'll probably run just water on the last watering but keep using the molasses till then. I can't wait to see what's in store for me after the 48 hours ;)

I took a couple more pics. First, here's to show I still have my pink pistils! Oh and another thing, the plants seem to have bounced back from the car ride & they've sprouted all new pistils, so they're not totally amber anymore ;)

haha just read this whole journal. Great job man! I myself am using a cardboard box a lot like yours haha. Im having a lot of problems with my temps though, think i need more powerful pc fans. Very inspiring and great job on the grow! really excited for your harvest and to see your outcome, i think the bud will be better then you make it seem. Even if it was bagseed, grown well almost any weed will be dece or better ya dig? Personally i think its more about how its grown/dried/cured then the genetics, but dont get me wrong genetics do play a huge roll =) Hope you can make some money off this too since you seem kinda low on cash haha. Have u decided how your going to dry it yet? Gonna be awfully smelly probably

Thanks man, and awesome job reading this, I know it's long haha. Your right about the fans, the more air circulation the lower the temps. For drying I plan on trimming the fan leaves & cutting them at the base of the main stem. Then I'll hang them upside down in the box with the fans running slowly until the branches can "snap" when bent. Prolly a few days. Then I'm going to put them in wide mouth mason jars & cure them that way. If you want more detail just head to the "how to grow marijuana: everything you need to know" thread in the faq section & look at the drying techniques.
 
Its cool man I know how to dry bud i was just curious whether you were gonna do it in your box or in a dif room or something, cause i remember how concerned you were with smell. Well that should work fantastic cause of the nice air circulation. I do however have another question:

How did you set up your PC Fans?

This is what i did: found old cellphone chargers and snipped them and attached to PC fans but i feel like there not spinning nearly as fast as they should which is why i think my temps are so high. Maybe the chargers dont have enough power or something? Is there a cheap way to get them to go faster? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
 
A lot of phone chargers only put out 5v, that may be your problem. The power output should be inscribed or labeled on the back. I'm using an old do it yourself adjustable 12v power supply I built in High School.. You could buy all the parts for it on the cheap. If your inclined to you should look for the schematics to make one, it's not hard.

I was thinking, and I'm pretty sure if you had 2 of those phone chargers and wired them together in a series circuit the voltage would double to 10v. Here's wiki Series and parallel circuits - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . Think of it like 2 batteries, if you connect the positive end of a battery to the negative end of the other, and draw power from the 2 ends that are not touching, the voltage you get will be the sum of the 2 batteries voltages.

I got laid off. I have a job now but it pays shit & doesn't even cover my living. I'm having to garner support from my parents. I'm very good at being frugal & not spending money on anything that isn't absolutely necessary.
Edit: I'm able to be a scavenger smoker & usually get to smoke once a week, though not much.

look at your pc fans if the label and lettering are still visible they should have a voltage they run on
most run on 8v and up a big pc fan maybe 12v so look at your charger and you will see how many of those you need or look around for a larger one from an old cable box or modem or some random apliance with a converter dealey and there you go sorry for the run on hard to type while hi yet still manage to ramble on
i used an old one from an old modem cut it split it
worked good fans are blowing hard lol

I ended up going to Radio Shank and forking over $20 for an AC Adapter that was adjustable. I spliced the wires from my fan and stuck them down in the positive and negative slots and viola! a fan that really moves some air. (+/- 83 cfm) :smokin:

The great thing about electric motors is that it doesn't matter how much energy you put through them, they'll handle it, it's just the heat you need to worry about. Obviously, you wouldn't want to put 110v through a 12v fan but if you found a 14v adapter, it wouldn't be much of a concern. :grinjoint:

Dude that absolutely blows im sorry. Haha if i lived near you i would smoke you up all the time, but i guess just look on the bright side your about to be rewarded greatly! Just a suggestion to maybe increase your yields if you do decide to grow again. Your a very crafty dude so i think you could do this extremely easily. Maybe think about doing a scrog? also if you added a 70w HPS i think you would get bigger/denser buds then from the CFL. When using such a small HPS the heat actually isnt even that bad, and you can buy the 70w HPS at home depot for around $20. i would keep as many CFL as possible too though. Just some thoughts...


Also thanks guys for all the fan help, very very helpful, next trip will be to radio shack unless anyone finds a link of cheap adjustable things you were talking about haha. maybe ill do some searching around the crib tonight to find a good adapter thats 12v
 
$20 sounds about as cheep as an adjustable AC>DC adapter is going to be. I've looked at lows & couldn't find a 70W HPS for less than $35. Not that $35 is a ton of money, but $20 would be better.. I'll check homedepot. Is it just me or could yall spend an hour just browsing at the hardware store? Maybe I outta start checking out craigslist. Also dealing with the heat will be an issue, but I just realized that I have my fans wired in a parallel circuit!! In other words, each fan is only getting ~5v. I bet if I wired them in series they would run faster & I would be able to take the heat of the HPS + CFL's. Just for yalls information, as of now, if I add 1 more CFL my temps go up to 86*F. With my 5 CFL's they stay steady at 84*F.
 
To keep everyone updated, I checked the trichs again today (microscope is a must for all beginner growers out there, i got a 60-100x w/ light for $12 at radioshack) and they're different for each plant. On Elsie I'd say 80% cloudy & 20% clear. On Marie I'd say the opposite, 80% clear & only a few cloudy. Looks like this is going to work in my favor. I'll harvest both at the same time. If everything works out well, Elsie should give me a little more body stone & Marie a little more head high. So now I plan on making the big cut when the majority of Marie's trichs are cloudy. Hopefully Elsie will have a decent amount of amber trichs at that time. I may only have a few more days ;)
