Pollen chuckers paradise

Hi guys I'm BACK. Hard to play in this play ground with no regular strains growing lol. I got that part solved and am now working on my new grow which has 3 different regular strains. The main strain is a Purple Afghani I am testing. Since it is a test I won't be saving pollen from the males. At least as of now. I also have a Lemon Cheisel that I don't know enough about to worry about pollen. I hope to cross this strain with feminized Super Lemon Haze from Green House someday if I like the Lemon Cheisel.

Which brings me to pollen. I have been wanting to change how I breed plants. That is going to have to wait LOL. Once again I am left with wanting to breed with not a lot of plants to choose from. I again have a opportunity to cross 2 strains I like. More then that. I want another early sativa strain. Cinderella 99 and Flo are not enough. I want to see what happens when you cross the 2 best early sativa's. They are both really stable genetics so not much can go wrong in that area. Plus they are from 2 different ends of the flavor spectrum.

The C-99 I am running this time are feminized. I have had really good luck with Grimms feminized C-99. So they will be the mothers. I am a branch pollinator so they will both get pollen and the best plant's seeds will be kept. The father of course will be Flo or Flo F-5. I am hoping for a male from the Flo F-5. With only 2 plants of it I don't know the odds. I have 3 other Flo plants going that are a Flo F-4 I believe. The F-5 I know has Blueberry F-4 father. I am thinking more flavor will come from that side. One way or the other Flo is going to get JIGGLY with the Cinderella 99

That's it. That's what it's all about. I've always had an interest in Flo.

I've got quite a few regs going and I see nothing that looks like a male. I'm going to get the loupe out today and look at some Ultra Dogs.

Jumping in...found one ripe seed from the one total purple pheno Cali Connection Corleone Kush. I grew four...got four phenos. The purple was first to sprout, was the most robust, the first to ripen and the first to stabilize at 62 RH for longer cure. Oh, also full purple and tastes like good and plenty licorice candy with incense. Maybe good I found a seed.

She is gorgeous!

@cr8grow thats a winner corleone kush bro. Nice work
Planning a hybrid or sativa leaning strain for grow #3...gotta keep moving with this indica...or you will become very relaxed...some phenos more than the others. I grew this to have a deep indica stash for insomnia. Perfect nighttime medicine and OK during the day...but you gotta stay motivated. Perfect for sunny afternoons now and lots of outdoor cooking.

Hi Folks — I’ve been reviewing this thread since it started as I am quite interested in learning about seed production. I recently popped some regular Northern Lights seeds. Out of 10 seeds we found 1 male, 5 females. 4 didn’t germinate. The seeds germinated on May 17, put into solo cups and transplanted into 5 and 7 gal smart pots (no til) on June 3rd. After 37 days from germination, they were flipped to flower lighting of 11 on — 13 off. At day 10 of flower (June 23rd), one plant stood out as different, so I separated it right away from the rest.

Now at day 15 of flower, thought I’d post this with pictures. This my first time growing this variety and also the first time that I’ve never performed any topping, LST, Quadlining, et al. I am a little surprised by the variety of these NL plants. I plan on pollinating one flower branch on each plant. Which female type do you think is the most desirable for the breeding program? First time growing NL.

Hey @hedzenmedz it's too early for me to chose one. I'd go ahead and pollinate a branch on everyone of them. It's really easy. You'll get a better idea of the favorite ones closer to harvest. Be careful with the pollen. Make sure fans are off. I learned the hard way. But a seed or two later isn't too big of a deal. Good luck brother :D

Post up the results too

I've never grown NL either but I have some beans. One of these days I'll get around to it if I live long enough. If you hit a branch on each one it doesn't make much difference at this point. The one thing you'll want to do is record anything unusual or appealing about the seed mom....branch structure, vigor, the effect of the high, etc. Also just make sure you pollinate at least 4 weeks or so before the anticipated harvest. That way your seeds will be fairly mature when you chop.

As Dankman said...just be careful with the pollen. You may want to do the deed in the room that has the male to eliminate making a mess. Best of luck....Your male is looking good

Thanks for your encouragement Dankman. I will be following through with regular updates.

That male plant is growing fast - every day I raise the light 3-5 inches. Thanks for your thoughts.

5 and 6 right now. Camera angle differences might be influencing that. 6 practically made its own canopy.

When the males are identified , cut them down to a single brqnch. Easier to control fewer pods.
Wish I had ypur luck. 4 of 5 M

With two plants and assuming the ratio of male to female is 1:1 you would have a 50% chance of one male and one female, 25% two male and 25% two female.

I know the basics of male/female ratios. I have also found that some strains and breeders get better or worse male/female ratios. That is why I mentioned it in this case. D.J. Shorts genetics seam to lean a bit more to the male side. More of a 60/40 male from what I have found. A seed is a seed, at any time a person could easily have planted 2 males.

Hi Folks, big surprise last night when I turned out the lights in the male grow area. Pollen all over! I made a pollen catcher out of a piece of foam bristol board. See photos. I am thinking of cutting the plant at the base outside and shaking it upside down over my trim bin, then the plant either goes to compost or garbage. Any thoughts? Thanks all. BTW day 16 of flower.

I wouldn't trust the results too much unless your sample size was large.
