It was the promix company that had the video recommending ph at 5.8
i never seen soil on your list , hence wondering if its hydro soil / soilless ,
I see now what i did, i didn't see the link for the soil he/she had put up, i thought its was a link in a sig of some sort so i skimmed over :cheesygrinsmiley:

If you can link me to the video that would be great! Their videos I've seen recommend the substrate be kept around 5.8 rather than the pH of the solution yiu pour in. The pH of the buffered substrate will be affected by the alkaline content of your water, and the type of nitrogen in your nutrients.

Humus is a fancy word for soil. And I checked with PremierTech, and they said peat is soilless but not hydro as coco is.

A couple of things to be clear. This is not ProMix HP. This is basically home potting soil with the ingredients I listed above including peat (5.8), soil (6.8), and coco (hydro). I don't know where PremierTech has decided to buffer the pH of the substrate to, but buffered substrates do not need to have pH balanced nutes, and that is from the manufacturer.

Any info you get about pH and buffered substrates should come from either the manufacturer of the product or scientific/.edu sites rather than youtube videos where misinformation runs rampant.

For info on pH and ProMix check out the opening post in the link in my signature on pH'ing nutes.
InTheShed knows his stuff in regards to the growing mediums and buffering so I'd listen to him and ignore the weed forum nonsence about needing to pH soil grows.
