Somango ladies are looking good. I do want to open them up a bit asap for yield. Either tie each one out or using a net. Anyone have a preference

I vote for tying down but I like to move my plants.

I like to use spreader bars. I’ll use a drumstick or stems from a recent harvest. Cross a couple of spreaders halfway between soil and canopy and you have the best of both worlds. A wider canopy, better light penetration and airflow. I use that rubber coated training wire to make a y-type fork in a (drum)stick. You can slide it along the stick to spread branches pretty well.

Do you have a pic of this? I can't envision it.

I'm with Shed and RM on just tying the plants down. I like to move my plants, too. :battingeyelashes:

As requested.

Drumsticks are very handy in the garden.

In fact, you can see on this one that I’ve tied one branch back to the bag. I find this a nuisance, albeit a mild one.
I would have preferred to use two spreader bars in a cruciform configuration, alright ecks shape then. I just like the word cruciform.

What happened was I dropped it. I have it on a skate trolley because I can’t lift it and it fell off when I was moving it one day. Something broke and it wouldn’t stand up any more. Tying one side up worked and also spread the canopy that way, meaning I only need the one spreader bar to do this to the canopy..

Just curious, how old are those plants?

Just curious, how old are those plants?

Checking now I see it was started at the end of May/ beginning of June. It’s only one plant in the pics. It was one of 3 gifted when a friend’s stealth garden was suddenly unsafe. They vegged for an age.

I had to stall them because my flower room was jammed with GSCs for the 420Mag grow.

You can take tops and tips and double your fun each time, slowing a plant down. Putting knuckles into the mains, supercropping. In my (then) overcrowded veg tent when she ran out of room to go laterally she had to go up.

Hence the need for spreaders - she was a thick mass of bushiness the diameter of her 35 litre pot, and three feet tall. She’s four feet tall now. Her stems have been strong enough to hold the canopy tight.

Two more days for this one. I’m sharpening my sickle.

Thank you for the tips/input everyone!! I plan on tying these ladies and opening them up a bit this evening. I've been a bit lazy lately now that I am working in the office again.

Since I'm away most of the day I am loving the camera set up so I can check in.

Wait.

You got a wifi camera?

Which one? I want one too.

Hey Baron! I do have a wifi cam which was nice while I was away for a week and will be again the end of the month. The one I use is a minion cam (the little yellow guys) and it works through an app called Tend secure.

It was a gift when we first got our pup. I know there are better quality ones but what you see is what you get. This one is nice because you can tell your doggo to stop it via a speaker. Rexer recommended a brand a while back but I didn't order on time and this was laying g around. I'll have to look for the name. Either way, I've been super happy with this one just for peace of mind

I am taking @HashFart recommendation and going with the stocky one of the males. He is throwing a lot of flower sites??? Not sure on the term pollen sacs probably.

The other one does not seen worthy. I started picking the lower sections of the ladies and I loooove the funky smell they throw.

Which one do you love the smell of more?
Edit: sorry I now see you mean the ladies. I thought you were talking about selecting the males.

Hey @HashFart great question and although I'm not experienced ill tell you what I plan to do and maybe others can tell us the right way haha.

I have my male in a separate tent, actually in the garage where the ladies tents are in the house. I plan to collect the pollen out in the garage and then I will carefully pollinate each branch and label the branch. I'm debating if I should pull each female out of the tent when I pollinate but I wonderbif me moving them back would cause more pollen to fly around. Other things to think about is turning off fans and wearing different clothes and washing hands etc when going from one tent to the next.

Messing with pollen seems so volatile to me. I accidently brought in spidermites in my practice grow after spending a few minutes with my outdoor tomatoes.. That was a lesson learned.
