PeeJay's Perpetual Organic Homebrewed Soil - Stealth Cabinet And Greenhouse Grow

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

Then again, they would probably want some... If I give it up, then they will know what I'm doing... I'd rather have it "my little secret."

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

:cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer:OMG! I don't know how to express how much I appreciate that you read my blogish diatribes, Jay... A key word in my thread title is "stealth." I'm not violating the laws here unless I exceed my plant count. I see so many threads here where I go; "Shit give me more space and production!" And, I see a ton of threads where folks are planting bag seed in solo cups under a couple of CFLs...

I can't help rooting for those folks:cheer:

I want to produce as much of what I need under the letter of the law as I can. At this point, doing so is a privilege, not a right. I count myself lucky to have the privilege.

Stealth is a part of my bones. I've driven my car like I have a kilo of chiva in the trunk for decades. As the Crab Man always used to say, "don't tell your business on the streets."

Then, here I am, telling it all...

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

Went on a field trip yesterday to visit an organic vegetable farmer friend. My plan was to walk around with him and collect up some beneficial insects to release in my greenhouse. When I got there in the late afternoon, my friend was running behind. Instead of insect hunting he put me to work, lol. He has a farmers market today so I spent a couple of hours helping harvest and wash produce. No bugs but he sent me away with a nice box of goodness to eat.

I think I'm over my brief anxiety attack over posting my grow. Stealth is so the landlord doesn't get ticked off more than anything else, I suppose. He's going to come through the room and out onto the deck to do the swamp cooler winterization some time in October, for example. I told him I was going to play with a greenhouse on the deck already. He's just going to drain the swamper and leave the cover off since I told him I like having the fan function even when it's cool outside. Keeps my ventilation options open. When he comes, the girls will be in the stealth cabs. I doubt he'll even give them a second glance. He's an easy going guy - don't know if he's even get upset if he knew what I was doing, but I don't wanna find out!

The greenhouse is doing well. So far, it has gotten as hot as 98 degrees in there, but that was when I had the whole thing zipped up to see hot it would get. I suspect it would have gotten hotter if I hadn't decided enough was enough, opened it up and turned on the fans. The low temperature in there has been 49. During the day with the fans going I'm seeing temps ranging from the low 70's early to the mid 80's. Surprisingly, humidity has been very low, even with the Wally World clearance plants I've put in there. It gets humid overnight, but I've been seeing RH around 25% during the day with the doors open and fans working. Wetting the carpet and misting the sides of the GH don't seem to make much difference.

No signs of new plant munching going on for the last 24 hours. We'll see if more eggs hatch....

A pic of the greenhouse with more stuff in it. I'm going to work on getting more stink perennials in there this weekend. Salvias, sages, etc.

New camera battery and charger have been ordered and are supposed to be here Friday!

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

Hey Peejay,
I certainly understand how you felt about feeling weird on growing what's legal and posting to the net. I still can't believe I'm finally legal. LOL My plant count is 12 to have legally and 12 for each of 5 patients, and I am going to stick to that like glue.
If I wasn't doing this legally, I would never in a million years post it on the internet! ;-)
I don't have to worry about anyone "finding" my grow, other than my current house guest and that wouldn't be a problem even if it happened. I just like to keep what I'm doing to myself around home.
Sure wish I had me one of 'dem 'der greenhouse thingies. That is so cool....er humid. LOL

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

This thing I have is pretty cheap. I don't think it will last long. It's an experiment really. If It turns out to be useful I'd like to construct something more permanent. It would be great to build a lean-to greenhouse in that spot and take advantage of the southern exposure - something with a real door to the outside world. I predict that the zipper on the door out to the deck will fail in a matter of months.

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

It's not how much you spend but how well it serve's the purpose. That looks pretty well devised for the space.

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

The greenhouse is a fun toy. For a hundred bucks including shipping it's already paying itself off. The electricity savings from having my lights off nine hours a day while veging the plants adds up pretty quick.

I suppose one of the big problems I'm going to face is using the natural light and still being able fit the plants into a 18"x24"x6' cabinet at night. The two mamma mias are filling in the screen nicely. I'm going to flip them to 12 - 12 on or before Oct. 7th. I have a feeling it will be before that.

I'll do a big update with photos using the better camera on Sunday. That is their four-week birthday.

The Mamma Mias are 4 weeks old today. Here is a picture update:

The greenhouse is looking more greenhousey.

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

The girls...and other plants are looking great Peejay! Nice clean set up with plenty of room to get yer' stuff done in there.
That rosemary really fills a good smell, doesn't it? Kind of covers things up in my basement. LOL

I have a free Barn and corral as of today, got rid of all of my chickens and I'm setting up an area for my greenhouse next year. It's already fenced in so the only real thing I will have to do is get the plastic sheeting up and a proper door. It's going to be about 8' x 6' and as tall as I want to make it. Can't wait till spring to get it started!
Sorry, rambling got me.
Have a great Skunkday!

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

I look forward to watching your greenhouse project, Canna. The rosemary only stinks if I bruise up some leaves. The two biggest stinkers in there are the Russian sage and the white lantana. I also have an oregano that I don't think shows in the picture, and some dianthus - both very aromatic. There is heaps of common thyme started from seed, and sweet marjoram. The greenhouse is going to stink even when the girls are inside.

Collette is getting quite fragrant. She smells like a dog that has been sprayed by a skunk and washed with lemon juice... Helen just smells really green.

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

Ty for the reps, Rain. The screen is working well except there is a little learning curve. I end up man-handling the girls more than I would like. I'm getting the hang of it now. I think I may do the same thing with one of the White Panthers for the second run. One plant, 10 gallon fabric pot and a screen that fits the box.

Did some tucking this morning. Helen is showing some preflowers. I'm going to water later today (no nutes) let them dry for a day, and give them 36 hours of dark. 12/12 will start for the Mamma Mias Thursday AM.

A couple of pictures - the girls in the tall cabinet a week ago, and this morning so folks can see how much they grew in a week.

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

I agree with chronic, they have grown a lot! Looking quite comfy in there. :slide:
And, I have a question on the scrog. When you say "tucking", do you mean that you are pulling a branch out of where it grew and moving it over to another "square"? I assume this makes sure you get light down to the branches for more growth?
If I'm off base there, hit me with the bat. (don't go gettin' the belt out!):biglaugh:

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

You've got it right, Canna. If you glance back at the pictures looking down on the plants you can see the basic strategy. The two main tops are on the right in both pictures. I'm moving the main top in one direction. Growth below the main top gets trained in the opposite direction. You can also see this in the picture of Collette's legs. FIMing the tops supposedly encourages the growth lower down. The tops all the way at the left are from the 2nd and third nodes. I pinched off those two, and a few others to double them up.

Keep in mind I don't really know what I'm doing - I'm just processing what I've read and listening to my gut...

The strong high-altitude sun is a great help. It makes the plants stretchier. Colette has been easier to train than Helen. She is just a more stretchy pheno in general. I've only irreparably damaged one branch and it was on Colette. Snapped it moving it. Applied tape and it still died...

Colette is a trooper! She got munched worse than Helen, I almost killed her removing a stubborn seed jacket when she was an infant, and broke off one of her branches! Still, she seems to be the star of the two so far. She has caught up to Helen and is getting really stinky for a plant that isn't flowering yet.

Since I'm concerned about the girls outgrowing the cabinet during stretch, I think I'm going to leave them indoors full-time for the first two weeks of 12/12. The plants don't stretch near as much under the LED as they do in the greenhouse. After that they can go back into the greenhouse to play with their friends under the blazing high-desert sun. It should help fatten the buds.

I guess my greatest fear at the moment is I've been pretty abusive with FIM, topping, and tucking. Hopefully I won't end up with a couple of she-males! :thedoubletake:
