PeeJay's Neophyte Breeding Adventure

You're the man (I think), thank you! I have a great local source for the vegetable glycerin,, no worries there. I'll blog this, thank you!!

Medman, I use dry high quality trim and small buds and fill pint sized jars about 3/4 full. Vegetable glycerine is added and mixed in to make a sludge. Let the jars settle for a day or so after mixing and check them. When they settle there should be a 1/2" or so layer of glycerin on top with little material in it. Add more glycerine or weed as needed.

After that I leave the jars in a cool dark place for at least two months giving them a good shake a few times a week.

For decarb I put the jars into a pressure cooker/ caner. It gets up to 238 degrees. Full pressure for about 40 minutes works great.

After decarb I let the jars sit for another week or two and then strain the tincture through several layers of cheesecloth squeezing as much glycerine out of the mix as possible and put it into dropper bottles.

The tincture has a strong complex sweet flavor that most people find pleasant but I have given some to one person who said it tastes like cough medicine.

I get glycerin from an herb store - not a cannabis dispensary, a store that sells all kinds of healing herbs and whatnot. They sell it in bulk from a huge container and it is cheap. They also sell dropper bottles in many different sizes.

:rofl::rofl:

PeeJay, is the "herb store" an online source or local to you? I could use some tincture bottles in blue like that. ;-)

Edit: I found one online called the bulk herb store, but their tincture bottles are only in amber color.

Oh yeah, I found tons of those online. I want to order glycerine and bottles from the same source when ready. I think that Herb store I found is pretty good, lots of stuff available.
I've got some blue bottles, but they are 4 oz. and no droppers..just caps. I'll search around the net for droppers for those.
I've got some people in mind for Christmas gifts. LOL

Dennise, you can make tincture easily in the MB machine (instructions in the booklet). I made a ton of tincture in it when I first got it, and later made oil from the tincture with the oven method. You could probably do the same using what you ordered for the heat source. ;-)

Congrats on the chop PJ.

Thanks Reg!

The breeders are marching right along. Panama took her bending in stride.

The two Chitrals have been a pleasure to grow so far. All three breeders are in 2 gallons of PJ v2.01 and have just received their first feeding of 2-3-1 fishy ferts. These plants went straight into flower as soon as they hit sexual maturity. The Chirtral looks like something that would do well in a small pot scenario like Sue is doing.

I do have a problem with the pretty Chitral pheno. The heavy trich coverage is making it hard to see the pretty colors. Does anyone know how I can make it stop growing trichomes? The flowers on the Chitrals smell like freeze-dried strawberries.

Starting to see a little flattening of the pistils on the big plants - moving into the next stage. Fatten up time! Woot!

And that's your definition of a PROBLEM? Sheesh PJ.

Those stupid trichomes are always getting in the way of our cannabis enjoyment. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Come to think about it you could probably get some pointers on that from my first grow. LOL

How to get a plant to stop producing trichomes? Never heard that one before, lol.

Your plants are gorgeous, aside from that little trichome problem. And that pic of the greenhouse looks like a marionette street fight gone wrong..

Keep em green and sticky :peace:

"The Trouble with Trichomes" episode is underway....

{{star trek theme plays in the background as Lt. Uhura shuffles tribbles.....er...trichomes away from her station}}

{{voice of Capt. James T. Kirk}}

"Those... trichomes... are long and fat PeeJay,... you're feeding them too well. They... will... multiply,..... you will not.... defeat them."
