Yes. Truly mind blowing.
I can't believe that companies like Advanced Nutrients sell there snake oil for big bucks and proclaim 'best', when farmers like us, thanks to Doc Bud, are enjoying or about to enjoy exponentially higher quality produce. I just trip thinking about it.
Thanks doc and all you great farmers out there! I have been and will continue to follow closely! I will try to do my best to help further our understanding and enjoyment of this great soil and amazing herb it produces!
Salt based ferts are DIRT CHEAP. Advanced could sell their stuff for 20 bucks and still make money. Mostly, it's the same stuff with different labels.
Basically, there are two MAJOR schools of thought on agriculture:
1. Industrial farming. These are your salt based ferts used to grow hectares of wheat, corn, soy...lettuce, etc. This is what is taught in ag schools all across America.
2. Organic farming. This is also being taught in the same schools, albeit much less emphasized compared to Industrial farming. Interestingly, many "organic" vegetables aren't any more nutritious than their chemical cousins. Organic farmers often struggle with pests and crop failures, precisely because of the political limits placed on OMRI.
There is an emerging movement afoot that is neither 1 or 2: Nutrient Dense Farming.
Nutrient Density is another way of saying "High Brix," and it is precisely this that led to my "discovery" of High Brix growing. Instead of trying to grow the most metric tons of produce per acre, or trying to grow tomatos that fit into a certain type of box and ship easily, Nutrient Dense farmers seek to grow the healthiest crop possible.
This means they often grow heirloom varieties, instead of "easy ship" stuff. Instead of attempting to increase yield, they try to increase nutrients in the food. Instead of buying "Round up Ready" strains----that can be sprayed with Roundup, or worse yet, produce their own roundup via genetic modifications----High Brix/Nutrient Dense growers rely on soil and plant health in order to control insect pressure.
Spread the word! Both food and weed MUST become healthier if we're to remain a strong people. I grow my food the same way I grow my meds....and so should all of you!
