Outdoor Sativa Grown In The Ground First Outdoor Grow

Re: Outdoor Sativa grown in the ground (First outdoor grow)

This is why I commend you outdoor ladies/gents! All the external factors that go along with outdoor cultivation is the main reason why I chose to start off indoors. I'm a a purist when it comes to the hort fundamentals, but having THAT much more control with indoor environments helps me sleep with ease at night.

excee, kazzi have you checked out the 'Bud Washing' thread?

I'm seeing that now, but if I can grow a few pounds that will last me a very long time and once I get a big bunch, I can switch to indoors and make clones of the plants I'm growing this summer. I am definitely starting to drool over LA's entire setup.

If pound'ers are what you are aiming for, check out the Capn and Sling. Both amazing growers that I try and emulate. With that technique, you can get 16 oz a plant in just 4 months, now multiply that by your plant count :)

But of course you can utilize half the resources of that indoor setup to achieve bigger weights outdoors. So many ways to approach this haha.

Now Light Addict...that is a whole other ball park :laughtwo:

Re: Outdoor Sativa grown in the ground (First outdoor grow)

Outdoor means more work, more time, more hassle, but it puts you in a contact with nature at its best, you get real :) Well, I couldn't somehow imagine growing let's say olive trees in the basement :) And I have to say that to this point I haven't tried better weed than outdoor, taste and bag appeal aside :)

Has anyone tried spinosad by the way as an insecticide? That's another thing I was looking into.

I am waiting now for my seedlings to be large enough to start making a flux. I have to take photos of what's going on, but I've been so busy and people are coming from NY this week and next week my Buddhist Lama is staying with me overnight in a few weeks so preparing the house for her...I'm such a nervous wreck. The auto experiment I just finished with was okay, but probably won't grow these strains ever again. The taste of one strain was like detergent. It's good smoke, but oof, tastes like Dawn liquid.

Can I wash after the buds are already dry to help taste?

>>> Can I wash after the buds are already dry to help taste?

I have heard of a technique called 'Water Curing' in which you stick you buds in RO water for a week or so. According to the reading I did, it can be done with dried and freshly harvested buds. Since THC isn't water soluble, I would assume other terpines might get washed away with it. I can PM you the link if needed, since it is not a 420 affiliate.

NO...do not do the washing after the bud is dry, one of the guys on Doc Bud's washing thread tried it and the bud came out worse than ever, Doc Bud commented that he would not even atempt it an a plant that has been drying for a day so i would keep them dry herb far away from water.

Ya i have done the water cure before it does work and makes the bud smoke REAL smooyh but it REALLY looks and smells CRAP, I tried it twice and came out the same so i don't think i will try it again!!

Peace and Love !!!

Re: hope you have moth/ egg war under control

Hi Trichs

Ok so here is an update on the pest issue.

At the moment i seem to be pest free, have up to now found 2 worms, 2 eggs, some spider mites and a few plant lice, none of these was however at any point a problem i seemed to have found then before it got to be any significant problem i think this is because i go over every cola and bud once a day so i am constantly up to speed with what the condition of my lady is!!

P1080562.jpg

If you where wondering i never used any spray of any sort during the Veg stage it was only some time into flower that i found the deed for the first time. I have up to now only used one insecticide on my lady, it is made by a local SA herb specialist and seems to work wonders for my lady not only is it organic but it also acts like a foliar feed in the same time and i can tell you i can see the difference in her since i started using this on her. I spray her twice a week because the organic spray does no damage to her i can afford to spray more an also much closer to harvest. i also give her a rinse before every spray, i use a hose on mist setting to sort of rinse all dust and other crap off the plant and buds ( i think this will in the long run together with the bud washing make the bud SMOOTH to smoke!!) this makes a huge diffrance as she looks much more glittery vibrant!

P1080554.jpg

As for my spray applicator i use two types, Plolyspray P2 and a P3 depending on where on the plant i spray both come in handy!!

I included some photos of the Insecticide i use with all the ingredients...

Well i hope all stays good and insect free until harvest.

There i hope this is enough info on the current pest situation

all this going into the details of the insecticide made me see that i have never gone into the specifics of what nuts i have used up to now so i will follow with a Full nute update!!

Happy Grow and Smoke!!

Re: hope you have moth/ egg war under control

Ok so its like this...

I have never really gone into the details of what nutes i use and how often i use it so here is that info for the people that care...

I use a range of nutes all produced here in South Africa, See i can't got for all the brands that you guys get over in the states cuzz it is not available here and if i where to order it it would be way to much for me to afford so i stick to the stuff that in produced local as it is easy to get and cheap but most important it is organic and WORKS!!

P1080552.jpg

Well during the veg stage is the only time i use something that is not organic the reason for this is cuzz this it is a REALLY good product and makes the plant GROW REAL GOOD during the veg stage as you can see from mine. I don't worry about this non organic product cuzz i only use it in the veg stage and switch to organic in flower so it will have no effect on the bud taste.

P1080546.jpg
P1080547.jpg

During veg i also use this product it helps the plant to retain moisture during HOT SA summer, this i must add works well with clones too i have NEVER lost a clone that i used this on!!

P1080551.jpg

The following product i use 3-4 times in the grow, Once before i plant to prepare soil and once again as flowering starts, i will also add more of this after harvest as i am doing it staggered.

P1080543.jpg
P1080544.jpg

For the Flower stage i use only one Nute it WORKS VERY GOOD i have been using it in the veg garden for years with great success and i can tell you is also does wonders for weed!!! i feed this twice a week .

P1080548.jpg
P1080550.jpg
P1080549.jpg

Along with the nutes i feed i water for an hour a day 7 days a week cuzz this lady drinks here is the meter in the morning after i gave water the day before for an hour

P1080530.jpg

OK so that is it for Nutes please feel free to ask if anyone wants to know more!!

Happy Grow and Smoke!!

Loving this journal!

Re: Outdoor Sativa grown in the ground (First outdoor grow)

Great sequence of updates, really gives me the feel like I am there in your garden. Beautiful glory shots too, such a gorgeous plant. Whatever ratio of nutrients your giving her she likes it :morenutes:

I am interested to see how this garlic spray works out for you in the end. 2 worms total is not too damn shabby. Sounds like you are on your way to a jackpot win my friend. The only thing I would consider as a possibility (even though you got this from an "herb expert") is that if spraying them directly on the buds, the polarity of the trichomes would be slightly condusive towards absorbing the oils in the spray. Meaning, some residues will mix. I would be afraid that even with a polar wash at the end that it could be difficult in removing all of those residues because they are now dissolved with one another. You know me, I always try to look at the flip side. Either way whatever you're doing is working great.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner :bravo:

PS The way you were positioned on that ladder looked dangerous, don't fall again! :circle-of-love:

Hi there Lester...

As always Very good to hear your opinion.

I hear you with the garlic spray i was also wondering about that, i started using it like 5 or so weeks ago and all looked good on her buds (Trichs looks good under microscope) so this made me relax but now that you mention it again i think i need to do some more research on the matter. Thanks for bringing it up it helps when someone confirms a what i was thinking!!

Ya i try to be careful on that ladder have not completely recovered from the last fall.

Once again thanks for the advice i take it into the highest regard!!

:adore: the Outdoor Master !!

Best and Blessed Lester

Yeah Rooster, that girl has you high up there. After seeing the pics on Trichster's thread it was mandatory that I get subbed to your journal ASAP! I'm rooting for you with the fight against the insects. Man, outdoors is the shisnic grows.
