If she gets the right light it should start to stand up but it’s hard for a lanky one to do that. Yes you could fill in with more soil or straight perlite, some use a wooden kabob skewer poked into the soil with garden wire wrapped around it, here’s a pic Carcass tie down stick just poke it near the outside edge away from the tap root

wow that little one is starting to flower? ...no way! That’s insane but hey anything is possible!!!

Also please be aware since you don’t have a lot of followers here yet of if your followers are offline for a few days.... don’t wait for an answer..... if you’ve got a real problem but no one replies then pop your questions on the faq page ok? Cool deal....just don’t want yiu to get stuck with no replies to help!

The stretching is due to insufficient light as someone else mentioned. I would not touch it if possible. You might be able to nurse her along by gently laying the cup on its side in order to minimize the stress on the stem. I’d make sure to create a pillow of sorts to cradle and stabilize the cup if you decide to place it on its side.

Might sound crazy but at one point while waiting for a tent and building my first LED light, I found some decent led grow light bulbs (70 watts?) for like 15$ US at Walmart. I also bought a regular clip on type shop light with aluminum reflector for like 8-9$. And the final piece of my improvised grow tent was from dog food bags my wife buys. It comes in big foil lined plastic bags like 40 pound bags 30” circumference and a height of 40” maybe.....not a great reflective surface but it worked to keep the babies from stretching too much and kept them warm (maybe I just got lucky) The whole setup looked ridiculous but it worked. After I decided to use the empty fog food bags I found a container to put the hollowed out dog food bag in and made a frame of wood 1”x3” with two legs and a cross bar the width of container. I suspended the clip on shop spot light with grow light bulb from the wooden cross piece. I attached the clamp on the spot light to its power cord in such a way that I could then loop the power cord around the cross piece and THEN plug it in. As they grew I actually built a taller wooden frame and stacked two dog food bags on this frame. Very crude but the foil liner and close proximity of the light source prevented the seedlings from getting “leggy” or keeling over.
It also kept them warm. Kind of like a large foil lined paper towel roll. Might be hard for you to get the dog food bags but you get the idea. LED light bulbs designed for plants will work well enough early on if you’re able to put together any sort of small reflective space. They need good light, warmth, and water to get started strong. You can do it!!!!!!!!!

This is my second group in flower tent now just over 3 weeks since flipping light 12/12. All GDP clones in 7 gallon fabric sacks. I’ve been using Fox Farms Happy Frog amended with extra perlite (2 cubic feet FFHF/10 quarts perlite mix ratio) and now using Jacks 321 nutrients. Defoliated all of them pretty well a week after this photo. Still learning and enjoying the process.

Great read through. The big leaning one is still wet, especially when compared to others. Today is a good sunny day so I'm making sure they all get as much direct light as possible. The other girls are all drying out pretty good (still too early to water)

I'm going to look into building some type of dome for them to keep them warmer at night. I'm going to use a heating pad (for backs, etc) to put underneath them in the evening, and possibly some of the day while they are getting the last bits of sun light this evening.

Wife won't let me use her Cake carrier for the dome. I'll figure out something. If these plants don't make it I'll start a new batch of seeds and try and do better. We've had great weather this last week and I'm not sure how long it will last. Still chilly outside but that sun has been blazing down. Cups felt very warm to the touch when in the sun yesterday so I feel like they are doing good heat wise during the day.

Wife and I got the Moderna CV19 vaccine yesterday. SORE MUSCLES. Gotta work, then check on the girls. Will post some new photos of each in the evening. The time lapse didn't work out as the battery died on the phone too soon.

Thanks again everyone for your help and your tips. I'll definitely hit up the other areas when I get stuck again.

Oh and I'm not sure it's damping off. The soil and everything I used was brand new and everything was sterilized clean... water was spring water from store (arrow head) and as for symptoms... only a couple match... but I see how you could think that from the photos and the caution and info on it, is extremely valuable. I do think I over watered the one for sure. It should be dryer by now. Will see what happens. Certainly don't want some type of gross bacteria screwing shit up.

I started a test seed about a month ago and was OVERLY cautious on my watering. Leaving it too dry for too long and it never even sprouted. This time I watered more(too much) but got results. I think psychologically I had convinced myself thats what killed the first one which led me to giving these ones a bit too much.

The little short one that's now putting out some leaves (Northern Lights) was solo cupped on 4/6/2021. Actually all of them were cupped on that day.

Train Wreck (the big leaner) is continuing to fan it's leaves out even though it's plopped over on the side of the cup. I'll probably put some kind of meshing around it and if it has to live out it's life in crutches... well... hopefully it lives a long happy life to harvest.

Ok... So I hate to say this but the sun has stopped here. I saw the forecast and it's gotten very cold "50's F" and windy. What seemed to be saving the girls was taking them outside in a clear bin, putting them under direct sun all day with a heater underneath.

I decided this outdoor grow up here in this climate with out a tent and artificial light is impossible so I ordered one that was supposed to arrive 3 days ago, but as typical in this area I live in, it likely won't be here for another week with a late delivery. (everything is fucking late here.... and we have no big stores on this island either.)

So I setup a space for the growtent but it's late and now the clouds have rolled in. I brought the girls back inside but have no light to put them under. Here is what they look like now, DO YOU THINK THEY WILL SURVIVE THE WEEKEND UNDER NORMAL lights? House lights? From what I've read regular lights do nothing. It's allI have until the mars growkit shows up. OH and also.. might mention... I already lost one of my girls. Gorilla Glue never fanned the leaves out and she fell over stretched. The stem was SUPER thin at the base where she went into the soil and died. The roots looked ok otherwise when I pulled it out but it was for sure gone.

First two photos: Trainwreck. Stem getting thicker, was holding itself up a bit ONE day.

Can see the stem at this angle. VVVV

Early Miss - The second leaner stood on her own quite a while but has gotten too heavy.
IMG_9119.jpeg

Finally the one I think is going to do the best, Northern Lights, this strain apparently is known for being grown in darker, colder climates from what I read and so far it's proving to be true.

IMG_9120.jpeg

So... do you guys think any of them will survive until the lights show up in 4-7 days? Again I only have standard house lights and very overcast skies the next few days. Maybe I'm overthinking it? OH and the roots look good when I lift the cups and take a peak, trainwreck is coming out the bottom quite a bit, probably time to move it to 3 gal cloth pot?

Is it normal for perlite to turn a toasted orange colour under the sun? Noticing that too.

They probably wont die before then, but you should add some more soil to the top of their cups (burying part of that elongated stem). They will grow new roots from that part of the stem, and it will also help them be able to stand up a little better. They stretch because they need more light, so give them as much as you can, even if it is a regular house lamp closer to them temporarily 'til your other lights show up.
Yes its normal for perlite to look different after being used, not sure if its the sun or just the incoming water that sometimes discolors it. It's never been a problem that I know of.
Idk about 10 oz from just three plants on your first grow. Absolutely it's possible, but I wouldn't hang my hat on it if I were you. The most valuable thing you will get from your first grow is almost certainly going to just be experience :D
Plus, why would you expect to get 100% of your expenditure back on just one grow? That seems a tad unrealistic to me.

Oh yea, and if the cups feel super light, give them some water, and maybe even a touch of food, they'll be wanting it soon.

Looking awesome. Really enjoy seeing seedlings prosper. Makes me feel like the grow Is going to be a good one! :)
How many plant were you planning on growing? I have an outdoor grow at the moment going on, consisting of about 15 plants.
If you want to come check It out, your free to do so.
By the way, I’m In on this grow.

Do you have any of the curly or compact fluorescent type lights? Seedlings do really well with cfl’s, if you don’t have any can you borrow one from a neighbor? These bulbs are pretty common now, they are not very intense and they get warm but not hot. Some use the clamp on type metallic hood chicken brooder fixture to position the light right over the seedlings

Well... I was naive enough to think I wouldn't need to spend $350 on a grow tent and was going to be able to just do it outside with a tarp and a kiddie pool, but exactly as you said, the real gain from the grow is experience. Which has been super abundant!
.
Thank you for the tip on adding soil I'll do that this evening.

Borrowed one from a neighbour exactly as you recommended, and... I transplanted the bigger girl to her final 5gal pot. I was about to add some soil around the base when I figured... just move her to her final spot and if she survives all this... well... she'll be a legend... my first grow success to survive my rookie grow.

Alright... here are the photos under the curly light bulb which still seems to be pretty dim. Day one under these lights, still no sun here and still no kit. Hopefully it arrives tomorrow or at least this week. I can't get a real close look on these guys right now. My 3year old boy scratched my eye wrestling this morning and I can't even keep it open to see now. lol. Perhaps it is best... maybe I don't want to see. Wife says the baby one looks best, but she's got no more knowledge than me. She just knows how to smoke it. :)

Big one is no longer drooping burried deeper in the soil, but he is wilting and the color on the leaves are changing yellow. :( transplant shock perhaps? I was pretty gentle and a lot of the original medium held together and made the move.

Other two are about the same, getting a bit bigger.

Should I clip those yellow leaves? Also I'm leaving the light on 24/7 since they need more light.

Well... the god damn grow kit and light is over a week light for arrival... as I suspected, very difficult at times to get things shipped here. The weather has been too cold even with the heating pad to have them outside... and while they are alive still one suddenly does NOT look good. The room is over 70f and they are getting a breeze from a fan. the other two are looking better than they have the last couple days... but this middle one here image 2... not a happy camper. :(

Here is the transplant that was leaning in the solo cup. Trainwreck strain. These are all on my neighbors borrowed curly light.

IMG_9203 2.jpeg

Here is the sad early miss. Not sure what is happening here maybe time to transplant?

IMG_9204 2.jpeg

Lastly the most promising of the bunch Northern Lights... still... they are all struggling eh?

UGH! Growkit and Light LOST in transit, Amazon issued refund. Probably "fell of the boat" on it's way here and some Ferry worker has a new growkit.

This was the only "like new" used one available so now I have to pay full price and wait for shipping all over again. Forecast for the next week. Sun breaks but below 70f. I'm gonna lose another one or two of these girls I think. :( Maybe I should start over with new seeds ONCE the kit arrives.

This grow journal is coming to a sad ending in the next few days I fear. Lot's learned though.

Ordered new Kit, with t1000 light instead (only one available) for 250 extra dollars from my lost in transit shipment. Will most certainly not recover what I've spent this time, but, will by the second hopefully! Supposedly it will arrive May 11th but probably not till May 18th. That's along time for crappy soft curly light.

The early miss #2 photo up there in my last photo post, gave her a touch of water in the bottom of the redsolo cup to see if that helped as the soil is looking pretty dry all the way through. She perked right up! Just checked on her. Post a photo tonight, I think I will transplant her, the roots are looking pretty solid through the cup and when her leaves are up, they cover the width of the cup almost.

Hopefully these three can hang on for warmer weather or the growkit, which ever comes first.

Ok the "lost" kid arrived, as did the NEW kit. Because I'm not made of money I'm returning (sadly) the ts1000 kit. So I set up the kit yesterday... let it run on it's own for several hours and then moved the girls in. I have NOT yet transplanted the two little ones. Here are the latest photos. The yellowing is continuing to grow now and i"m not sure what I need to do to alleviate that. I'm wondering if it is a nutrient issue? Should be plenty of tasty nutes in the soil in the big plant (Trainwreck) and the little ones.... maybe not as much as they are really starting to fill out with roots.

Temp in tent is 27' humidity is 35%, I have an oscillating fan blowing from top down on to them. Ventillation pulling air out into the included carbon filter. They def looked happier hours after getting in there but the yellowing is my biggest concern right now.

I have been watering them (rarely) but when needed with spring water. The big girl, Trainwreck, or "Miss T" as I've begun calling her, I have not watered at all yet since hitting the big bag(5gal cloth pot)

Here are the photos! First up: Early Miss She is going to be transplanted TONIGHT

Northern Lights, who I've named, "Miss Hope"
IMG_9235.jpeg

Finally Miss T (Trainwreck)
IMG_9234.jpeg

As usual, THANK YOU for helping out a noob who probably should have found answers to all this shit elsewhere but hasn't.

Some other info. The light is hanging roughly 28inches from Miss T who is the tallest and about 36inches from the others. But they will be moved up when I transplant them tonight. I've JUST started a 20/4 On/Off schedule with them, but they have not had more than 2 hours of no light since they landed in there.

It is again a TS600 light. It's so much brighter than anything these guys have seen (other than the sun).

Lastly... some reviews on the mars hydro grow kit with ts600 as a noob... it seems amazing. Way easier to put together than people have stated. Perhaps because I read all the negative I was ready for struggles. No challenge. Light leaks. I don't even understand why that's an issue but IT ABSOLUTELY has light leaks. Primarily around the velcro on the bottom. I feel some fiddling with the velcro will correct this issue mostly, but there are small leaks where the power cables and venting tube exit but not much.

Sadly, this grow has become an indoor grow and now my title is misleading. :(
