Oldsmokey Goes Hydro

@Stltoed I was at the grow store a few days ago they didn't have a clue when I asked about silica derived from monosilic acid instead of potassium silicate. They proceeded to say they don't think there is a difference I started to explain the difference but the look on his face I just stopped and said ya that's all I need today. They did have silicate gell from potassium silicate. Made by Rambridge a local company that started the first grow store here then the went more into manufacturing. I have used there products before and if I can't find anything more suitable might try it.
I got in an argument with someone on another forum over the same thing. This person was singing the praises of fulvic acid, another favorite of mine, and I brought up Silica, and he knew a bit about its uses, but didn't know anything about monosilicic acid. He's very smart but he just hasn't heard the good word. This is really common, in quite a few areas of what we do.

If you can find the goods do what you can I guess.

It’s all good man I’m just trying to learn what I can about whatever I can. Never know when these things I learn from you guys could be used in the future. I won’t stick with dirt only forever, lol. Gotta branch out, yuk yuk yuk!
I hate getting bored. Ive used G8, Platinum, Spectrum King, Black Dog, Rapid, Ursa, HPS, MH, and CMH, lights, just to see the difference. You should try new stuff.

I have been trying to post the data sheet on it with no luck. It says potassium silicate solution but then under hazardous ingredients it lists silicic acid and potassium salt. They claim there's is 12% stronger than other silica supplements.

Oh believe I do man. I’ve got light coming out of my bunghole. Have a cmh/led flower setup now. Also have plenty of nutes for soil and hydro. I’m leery of playing with hydro in a carpeted bedroom turned grow room.

But 12% stronger how. You may not want it stronger if your pH does the hula for 10 days everytime you use it. It has what you're looking for though, hopefully you see the benefit.

If you feel you want more positive results do a foliar spray till you have legitimate flowers.

Do you have to pull your finger to see it?

Yeah, you don't want hydro on carpet, you'll have colas with a side order of mushrooms! You'd be best off pulling it up and rolling it to the side. Or buy a tray

They say it 12% stronger so you need to use less. At what point would you start using silica?
Just about the time they are taking nutrients at around 500ppm or more. 500 not including the Silica. You want it in the plant as its building meristematic cells. Therefore all the new stuff will see the benefit. The floem/xylem circulatory system will be larger and much more effective, as the cell wall will be much more robust. It works in older plants, but no where near as effectively as a plant that was brought up with it

Ok then I will start it next week when I change the res. So add silica first then base nutes and cal mg last?
Silica first, calmag, if you are using a nutrient with a "micro" then add that.

I start a nute change late in the day. I add the Silica then let it run through the system overnight, then Calcium in the morning. This may be overkill but it made stabilization easier over time when I was Potassium based products. I wanted large gap between the Potassium and the Calcium.

On my last season I would do a nute change and have 50 gallons of RO water. Granted, there were trace nutrients in the bottom of the buckets, and on the roots PPMs not 10 but well under 100. Power Si would react when I put it in and cloud. I spoke to the vendor and he said it has to be cleaner WTF? So, now I leave the rec, pump off when I do a change. The water is as clean as I can get it in my circumstances in mid grow.

Sounds good will be trying next week I am at 600 ppm now.
Honestly, I can't say there's a magic time or PPM number to start Si. Roots need to be in the water, and the plants growth needs to pick up steam, which is a matter of days after the roots are wet.

Wanted to share this with you...

You should make a thread some time over in the Cultivation Scientific Data forum on all the stuff you have. It would be a great use of your knowledge and resource for the rest of us more feeble minded folk.
Aw, thanks.
But whats funner then preying on the feeble minded?

I'm gonna start making things up.
Green M+Ms make an excellent compost tea
Growing in pure maple syrup increases yield
Silica is best used on a Friday

That's what I heard

The blue M&Ms taste different than the rest. I can pick them out blindfolded.
I saw Jack Reacher use a red one to open a safe!

Can you really taste the difference? If so thats kinda cool
