Umm, had to think about this one. If mic'ing adds Rads to the bud for a quick cure, wouldn't that be the case for food? And if that be true, then most of us are in deep Kim Chee. I'll have to check next time I zap a Marie's chicken pot pie, see if it glows in the dark.

The reason why buds are dryed and cured over long periods of time is to drive the moisture away in a slow controlled manner. This is to maintain potency, taste, and makes it burn cleanly. The microwave will not add any sort of harmful radiation to your buds, it will however dry the buds super fast and that is not necessarily a good thing. The result will have less potency, a sometimes awful taste, and will not combust fully or cleanly. If you have to take "sampler " buds, just realize that they are really no reflection on what your final product will smoke like.

Thanks RooRman, what your refering too was also defined in Urdedpal's most excellent article on Harvesting. I took two buds, one scraficed in a blaze of radiation, one for the kind favor, and scent in a paper bag. I'm currently flying on what's left of the radiated cutting:cheesygrinsmiley: The plant smell is very subtle, you might catch a wave of a light, sweet scent during watering, or lifting the fan for observation (increased heat), but to get a real whiff, you gotta stick your mug down close to it. The bud that's drying smells like black and white road kill:allgood:

Thanks Big Dog, she'll be posing again on Tuesday for her 15th week birthday, I'll add the pics to my members gallery pics of her previous five weeks. These pics were from last Thursday, can't wait to see how she looks next week. So lucky.

You people do realize how a microwave oven works, it bombards what you put in it with radio waves causing like a friction effect. Radiation in the buds? Don't think you have to worry about it. Using a microwave to dry a small bud is just for sampling a small bud. Nothing more, its not prefered, just a way to cheat and get a quick buzz off something your in the process of growing. I might only do it once maybe twice tops. Besides, its a harsh smoke and I rather have a cured, mature product.

That's not what I meant and you know it. Microwaving is not good for anything. Even food, yes. Microwaves are convienient, but not the healthiest choice for anything you will end up consuming. I should have known I wasn't gonna get through....

Sorry bud, was just being my typical smartass self. As a telecomm engineer, I was intimately envolved with microwave transmission, and the dangers of wave guide exposure. Like yourself, had serious enough doubts of containment in commercial microwave ovens that I wouldn't allow one in my house for years. I was just joking about the rads, but people should be aware of the dangers of a porly sealed mic door. I you don't like or approve of microwaves, I gotta respect that.

I didn't even know it was dangerous to have a poorly sealed microwave door, and what exactly do you mean? Also, is just having the door open a crack bad? I don't understand, I wish you could elaborate more.

A poorly sealed door will allow the same charged MW particles to contaminate the area immediately around the mic. The same charged MW particles that turn organic matter to mush. You do the math. There is also a threat to electronic device's due to small EMP (electro magnetic pluse) bleed on older units, even with a good seal, that's why they use to put warning tags on mic's for pacemaker users.

If you quetion the seal on any microwave, toss it.

Beautiful work Mr Old! :cheesygrinsmiley: :peace:

Why thank you Mr. Pinch, just hoping my next grow is half as nice. Took some birthday (15 weeks, 4th week of flowering completed) this morning for my grow record in my members pics. Nugs are looking very promising, but gonna have to wait till the fat lady sings to find out how she smokes
