Occasional seeds in weed?

When grinding my weed, i have on 2 occasions come across odd looking seeds. The seeds are small, tan and oval shaped but seen to be flat, like there is nothing in them. On both occasionas when I did find then, there were a lot, like there must have been a pod full of them. I thought cannabis seeds were round, not flat.

Sounds like a hermaphrodite.. Male stamen can occur within the flowers/buds themselves.. they look like tiny little bananas or tiny little leaf growths that are slightly brighter more vibrant than the rest of the growth.. these stamen can pollinate the area immediately around themselves causing seed growth.. Often they can be difficult to see/find especially if you’ve got a lot of budding

Seeds take a while to develop into maturity where they’re viable. It sounds like the plant was harvested before they became mature.

Likely they were late developing seeds from a male flower or two late in flower. The plant is trying desperately to fertilize its flowers and, in the absence of male pollen, it will sometimes throw little banana looking flowers that have pollen in them. Often it's too late for the seeds to fully develop and they're probably not even viable, but that's the plants survival mechanism kicking in.

Look at you using almost the exact same language, get out of my brain! 😂

I agree with the twins.

Had it happen to me before. Like Kef said, hermie probably happened late in flower and the seeds didn't mature.

Number of reasons for this, namely genetics and light leaks or some kind of stress-could have just been a broken branch somewhere that caused the plant to feel distress and try to produce seeds to save herself.

Couple grows I even had a couple plants with no more than 2 seeds in the whole plant. Could have just been a last ditch effort, these plants have the ability to produce seeds if they really want to-their main goal is to reproduce after all

The twins 😂

I believe Az and Krissi hit it with an emergency seed grow.. The immaturity of the seeds makes me believe it was something that occurred mid-late flower. The goal is to trick the plant into believing everything is fine and they’ve got plenty of time to reproduce, that way they keep fattening up.. If they sense the end is near or some sort of life threatening issue they’ll switch over to seed growth in an attempt to reproduce. (This is also why they’ll spawn seeds if you wait too long to harvest as well)

Triplets 😂😂 I’ll take it @Krissi Carbone I’d gladly be associated with the two of you

Thanks, I probably left it a little long in flower. I was waiting for some trichomes to turn amber...it never happened. The weed seems good though, so I'm happy. I never noticed any strange looking buds when trimming but it was the my first grow, so didn't really know what to look for.

I'm sure it's just fine! Who cares you had a seed or a few in there. Its not until you have seedy bud that you have crappy weed. A few seeds takes nothing away from a good smoke.

So when I had a hermie I noticed:

-When they start to seed, they kind of like shot out on the sides a little I noticed, like where the pollen sacs are forming. It misshapen the bud.

-It slows down the growth of the bud as soon as the hermaphrodite occurs so that's something to look for.

(Also try to check on the bottom buds for seeds or sacs first since the top buds will have more bud to them, they could be hard to find).

-Those little bananas though, just inspect your plant, they look like a little yellow or bright green banana. They'll be coming out of a bud and it's probably just one little guy that got out there but that's all it needs.

-It's not like you're gonna see bananas everywhere cause the plant will, like aforementioned, be pollinated on every nearby branch from that one banana.

-late in flower no big deal, just watch out if you have another plant close by!

some strains get empty calyxes if you leave them run a long time. the plant hasn't hermied. it just was trying really hard. the seed cases develop but they remain empty.

Well, as a new grower, I'd like to invite you to come check out #SIP Club . If you grow in soil, these pots can give you larger plants (and therefore larger yields) with much less effort. They provide perfect watering everytime since the plant waters itself, and improper watering practices are the number one issue facing new growers.

They're not for everyone, but I will say they were a game changer for me and many others have felt the same.

I'm sure they are good, but I grow in a greenhouse, straight in the ground, no pots. I'm sure growing in the ground is best for those who can do it. No root constriction or root rot from over watering.
Ah, that's a style many of us would like to emulate. And in-ground growing can still have its issues with watering. More of a buffer though I'd imagine if you don't get it exactly right occasionally.

Seeds in your weed isn’t a huge deal.. Especially a few immature seeds.. A lot of us have been smoking since before sinsemilla was available. Some of the old heads here will regale you with tales of bags that had more seed weight than weed weight.

As you learn your environment and grow you’ll learn to tighten up stuff like that.. Some sativas will never have amber trichomes no matter how long you wait.. I flowered my sativa for 68 days and there wasn’t a single amber trichome. When you think about the related high it makes sense.. Some indicas flower twice as fast some twice as slow.. This is where genetics and clones are huge.. you’ll learn to dial in specific plants to the day and know exactly what to expect. If I remember the math correctly every strain has 32 phenotypes.. You’ll see about 4-6 main phenos express themselves.. This means that for every strain you grow, you’ve got 32 different versions of that strain that can express. Most breeders have bred out the weak phenotypes which is why you’ll normally encounter 4-6, but this is just an example to make a point.

It sounds like it was just letting it ride too long (you’ll know they’re ready for harvest when their water consumption drops drastically.. @InTheShed I believe is who I learned this from and it’s been accurate for me) I don’t look at trichomes for harvest. I pay attention to water intake and red hairs.. When my water intake drops off and there’s more red than white hairs I know it’s time.

To go back to my first point lol.. seeds aren’t a big deal for personal use.. If you’re looking to go commercial with it dial in your setup and really focus in on growing specific genetics and phenotypes.

I recommend starting a journal.. you can get tons of tips from a huge variety of excellent cultivators with years of experience.

Question directly related to this topic but slight side bar to a specific occurrence Ive noticed repeatedly over a number of years and strains.
Later harvest I do not rush harvest outside or in that extra week can make all the difference however Ive noticed several times now the calyx normally found at the crotch of every branch on a female plant will have the odd seed not every calyx but many will and they appear mature after curing. I dry whole branches and trim afterwards anyone who uses a machine may never see these. Are they from external pollen and has anyone attempted to grow these seeds. I know seeds developed under stress may not be as good as those properly pollinated but the feminized varieties seem to be popular enough.
Random morning thoughts brought on by this post please weigh in Im curious what others think?
Happy 420!

ya know I been asking myself (since im growing sativa leaning strains) Why would I want to let my sativa turn amber. im an older man couch lock can be a way of life at times . I prefer sativa because they do away with couch lock some of my best crazy Ideas and creations are due to sativas. you pretty much answered the question I never asked ty
BTW I bet I have 1000 man hrs with a album cover and pack of zig zags cleaning seeds . Frampton comes Alive was perfect double album

would you by chance know where one could find a image of these Banana winkies? this actually happened to me on my last grow or something similar I didn't even know it had happened till the weed was hanging and I was messing with a piece of larf on a branch and I heard Ping..Ping...Ping on the tent floor
